New iPhone - What to Buy?

I bought an iPhone SE from Ausluck on one of the eBay tech sales about two years ago. I’ve had a Vaya plan which has been about $20 a month for 2GB. Hence, I’ve paid about $45 a month for my phone. I work at home so I don’t really need more data as my phone connects to my unlimited service most of the time.

I’ve wet my phone and think I’ll need to buy a new one - a huge black spot has appeared on the face. Am I better to buy it outright, as a business expense through my company, or am I better off on a plan? I don’t need the latest and greatest, it’s just for calls, messages, emails and photos.

TIA

it’s just for calls, messages, emails and photos.

Why does it need to be an iphone then?

    Get a chinadroid or s7 edge/pixel.

    • Just because that’s what I’m used to and I’m pretty clueless at all of the tech stuff.

Just get an iphone 8 through work. At least it won't be slow and last a few more years before Apple slows it down.

        • So, that’s still a cheaper option than a plan?

        • @LXE3:

I usually salary sacrifice it. Claim TRS. Get an Optus sim only plan for $30/month (15GB of data but the offer has expired). Bob's your uncle.

        • @smuggler: Thanks! I’ll keep my eyes open for a deal on an 8. I was just wondering whether a plan worked out better when I saw a post for an X and it was something ridiculous like $1600.

actually, sounds like a Windows phone would be perfect.

That would be a dumb idea. They're shit and outdated.

        • Not to mention that MS announced this week that the platform won't get any support whatsoever, so its dead like Blackberry or Symbian.

  • If you can wait until the end of next month you should be able to find a pretty good deal on a Galaxy S8 because the S9 is getting released. Provided you don't have a large number of paid apps or music tied up in iTunes changing operating systems really isn't that bad. An added bonus is Samsung phones are water proof so no more accidents.

will be worth more when its discontinued so you will have an investment

    • I'm trying my best not to laugh at your comment!
      (Hope you're not being serious!)

Are you joking? Everyone knows a $80k car is a higher yield investment.

    • Maybe if they kept it sealed and unused, could be a collectors item once they are superseded.
Perhaps buy 2x iPhone X, one to use and store one in pristine condition to then sell for profit and cover the cost of both phones and the data/calls used on the work phone. win win.

Rumour says an updated iPhone se is due for a March release.

  • iPhone SE 2 when it comes out. Buy it outright. At least you can jump providers if you want.

It's gonna get an OLED screen and a notch. I think they'll call it the iPhone SE X.

      • Might just get the battery replaced on my old one instead of spending 1500.

        • I've heard rumours that its gonna be worth the AU$1,100 for da SE X.

        • @Kangal:
I brought the SE because it was cheap. Trust Apple to pimp it out and jack up the price.
