Space grey version slightly cheaper here for $259 with the code 'GOOG10' or '10_factory_01'. Gold version also cheaper from that site at $255 with the codes.

    • This seems to be quite a popular phone on this site. I've seen loads of posts for this one. I've been burned by Moto before, so I'm a little bit wary.

How are dwidigitalcameras with postage? I can vouch for eglobaldigitalcameras. I've bought 2 phones from them, and they got delivered in 2 to 3 days.

      • What happened with your old Moto device? If a failure has it only been one device you've had or a few? I recently purchased one for a family member who's been loving it but thinking of getting the G5S Plus as well but interested in your comments.

        • Nothing happened to them as such. It's just that Motorola promised upgrades to a newer version of Android, and backpedaled. And it's not like this was promised in some online publication. These were statements made on their own website(s).

        • @flaminglemon:

Thanks for the details, interesting but also not too good to hear that news!

        • @Jonc: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/09/17/motorola-isnt-updati…

That's the latest stunt they pulled. If their Moto G phones were getting Project Treble, I would buy them with confidence.

That said, for less than $300, you get a pretty good phone. I like their designs, and I like some of the software touches they put on their phones.

Yes around the same time for DWI as well, but that's because DWI and eGlobal are the same companies, just trading with a different name. Confirmed on Whirlpool too.

Edit: Wasn't aware of the PayPal surcharge as mentioned by hamza below. If you want to pay with PayPal (which I recommend) then eGlobal will be a better option, if you want to pay via bank transfer, then purchase it from DWI.

  • Do you think the G5s Plus for an extra $22 is worth it? I've been looking for a good deal on the G5S Plus locally of which officeworks has for $399 at the moment but EGlobalDigitalCameras has had it for around $282 delivered and been considering it… have not really looked at the G5 Plus (non 's' version) but having a look now… interested in any thoughts or comments from users…

Looking online I think these might be the main differences:
    G5 Plus vs G5S Plus
    5.2 inches vs 5.5 inches
    F2.2 vs F2.0 Camera lens
    5MP vs 8MP front camera
    1080P vs 2160p Video

    Cheers!

UPDATE: G5s Plus works out to be $19 more expensive than posted deal from DWI (as per link above and promo code for $10 discount).
    - Now the extra question, EGlobalDigitalCameras vs DWI as prices are almost the same any way ($3 difference)

    • +2

G5S Plus is also upgraded to a metal body and has dual cameras. One negative is that the 2nd sim slot is shared with MicroSD slot, see here. If you were wanting to use both dual sim and MicroSD you won't be able to, probably no issue for mos.

Just keep in mind that both G5 and G5s Plus have 3GB RAM via eGlobal/DWI as they are European versions, compared to the Australia version that has 4GB of RAM (but are obviously quite a bit more expensive). Compare prices with previous deals here and here

DWI & eGlobal are owned by the same company so no difference. Just keep in mind that DWI have a surcharge for PayPal of 3.5% for purchases below $600 (1.8% above $600). There are discount codes for DWI as stuhtb mentioned above.

      • It seems the Motorolla G5S Plus (Australian) also have 3GB of RAM now? were the G5 Plus had 4GB Ram before… seems a little odd..

        https://www.motorola.com.au/products/moto-g-plus-gen-5-speci…

        • Ah yeah that's right, my bad. No difference in specs for the G5S Plus then.

        • @hamza23:

Hi Gamza23, thanks for your additional details and confirmation :-)

So to summarise, it seems the main 'upgrades' on the G5S+ from the G5+ is as follows:

          • Upgraded body (metal body)
          • Dual rear cameras
          • larger screen (5.2 vs 5.5")
          • Slightly Faster Camera lens (F2.2 vs F2.0)
          • Higher MP front camera (5MP vs 8MP)
          • Higher quality video (1080P vs 2160P)
          • Shared 2nd SIM slot with SDCard (G5S+ can only have either a 2nd SIM OR SDCard installed)

I'm personally thinking for the extra $19 or $22 I might look at getting the G5S+ now as it's really not that much more and I don't need dual SIM support but a larger screen is always nice (although perhaps battery life will be reduced I suspect) choices, choices…

        • +1

          @Jonc:

Yeah I think that's it, I'd also get the G5s+ in that situation since the price difference is so small. The reviews I've seen for it said it was a good upgrade, making the phone a little more premium and with a larger screen but that despite the upgrade the camera wasn't any better. I think many reviews said it probably wasn't worth the price increase where it was US $50 (~AU $70) more than the G5+, since it's the same processor, battery, still micro USB. However in this case where the price difference is so small I think you may as well to get a slightly better and newer phone.

        • @Jonc:
The G5S Plus camera actually looks inferior to the G5.. see here:
          https://www.digit.in/mobile-phones/camera-comparison-xiaomi-…

A few reviews noted they weren't satisfied with the G5S Plus camera either.

        • @baws9k:

Thanks baws9k, thats not good news ;-(

Thanks for sharing the link and for the heads up… why why why…. :(

    • Also G5S is not dedicated MicroSD, Dual SIM or SIM & SD. The G5 is Dual SIM & SD. Makes a big difference if you use Dual SIM and want storage for music/pic/vid.

  • It's hard to justify this purchase when just yesterday the Aus Stock 32GB/4GB version was going for $308 delivered.

The 1 neg is from this OP who compared it to grey stock and lesser spec'ed phone

    • True. This was the deal I posted in the comments. Didn't realise that one was Aus stock when I posted it.

  • What's the deal on NFC? Aus one has it, this one doesn't?

    • +1

According to eGlobal & GSM Arena this model (XT1685) includes NFC
      XT1685 also includes NFC
      XT1687 does not include NFC
The versions that include NFC also have B28

      • Thanks. I couldn't see it mentioned in eGlobal's description.

  • I just bought the Motorola Moto G5s Plus (32GB/3GB) on ebay for $295
    (with the 5% code)

    • +1

Am I guessing that must be grey stock correct? How was the shipping and turn around times? happy?
If so please share the selling/link :-) Cheers!

      • +1

I ended up buying the G5s Plus from ebay 4GB RAM for $339 with the 5% discount code.
        Delivery was stupid fast.
Wife is very happy with the phone

        • which 5% discount code is that? can you share it please.

        • +1

          @shakoo:
          Code was PICK5 I believe

          Here's the phone I bought

        • +1

          @shakoo:

Note that Allphones have AU stock for $327.19 with code PRESENT20 but only has 3GB of RAM listed, however you'll get Australian warranty with Allphones (QD is grey import stock).

        • @Nuclearvodka:

Did your G5S Plus come with 4GB of RAM? I noticed QD sell the same XT1805 model which is listed here as only having 3GB of RAM, the same XT1805 as what is being sold in Australia and other grey importers like DWI/eGlobal. Wondering if it definitely had 4GB of RAM or if that was a typo by them from the older G5 Plus with 4GB?

        • @Nuclearvodka: Thanks Nuclearvodka :-)

now to get approval from the boss

        • @hamza23:
Nope I triple checked when I got the box.
It was the G5s Plus 4GB RAM 32GB storage.

I do believe it is a great price

        • @hamza23: hmmmm. this and your comment above, has me a bit hesitant now.

I was looking at the link from Nuclearvodka specifically as it has 4gb ram.
but if that's just a typo, then might as well get the phone from eglobal for $263 + $25 shipping ($288) or $293.26 if including insurance

        • +1

          @shakoo:

Mine is definitely the 4GB RAM one.
With the code I paid $322 AUD
Not sure about Grey (it probably is) but the seller is in Regents Park, so nice and close for me.

        • @Nuclearvodka:

Ok cool, very confusing but good to know :) So the QD option $322, is $5 cheaper than Allphones $327 and has an extra GB of RAM. Yeah it's def grey stock, seller is from Taiwan, despite the 'item location' being in NSW :p But QD are pretty good for grey importers from what I've heard in any case, if something did go wrong.

eGlobal also $30 cheaper but once again you get 1GB less RAM and eGlobal aren't very reliable if something goes wrong.

        • @hamza23: really? damn. thanks for the heads up.

          QD it is then :-)

        • @hamza23:

All I can say about QD was how quick I got the phone!
          Bought Tuesday got it Thursday!

        • +1

          @Nuclearvodka:
that was very quick delivery. like you, I ordered on Tuesday and it was delivered to my work mailroom yesterday afternoon.

busy day so won't be able to play with it until tonight.

thanks again, @Nuclearvodka for the heads up.

  • yeah grey stock.
Supposed to be delivered this week (I bought the phone yesterday)
    Will update here.

  • Be warned, tried to buy this exact phone from DWI (eBay) and then eGlobal last week. Both advertised in stock etc - heard nothing on my order for 2-3 days and hence contacted them, both advised they had no stock as there was a supplier issue and the would have them sometime this week, offered a refund.. or to wait.

Might be better to (like I did) just pay the bit extra ($29) and grab a 16GB/3GB XT1685 from OW!

I have good experiences from eGlobal before - but not this time!

    • +1

Everyone is different, I just personally find that 16GB storage isn't enough nowadays for most users. If you use quite a few apps, even with an SD card for media storage it can be a struggle, since the system takes about 9GB (just a guess, don't know the exact figure).

      • I do agree, out of the box the device has 6.83/16GB used, not too bad but for app heavy users and media this could be tricky. I've also found the camera no where near as good as my old LG G3, somewhat improved by unlocking the boot loader and using TWRP to flash the Chromatix mod, I also used ADB shell to push/pull the build.prop to allow camera2api..

        • I recently hardware reset a Galaxy S5 16GB and after it downloaded all the software updates (included with the phone) and installed Whatsapp I only have around 7GB free space on the phone… 16GB I think is very hard to get buy especially if you plan to send/receive any video/image files..etc..

The phone often runs out of space and I'm constantly needing to manually move stuff to the SD card as most applications will not 'move' and run from the SD card so I use to often have 400MB of free space left before doing the hardware reset to try to optimise any old used space…I would definitely recommend 32GB as the minimum if you plan on any social media apps (whatsapp, facebook..etc)
