Do I Buy Flights Early or Later?

I'm taking my family to Europe in our Sept school holidays this year. I started looking at flights and found what seemed to be reasonable pricing for 2 adults and 2 kids. $3,987 on Thai Airways, into Heathrow with only one short stop in Bangkok. Two questions, does this look like a good price? And should I be trying to buy tickets this early on for good pricing or do cheaper prices get released later (or perhaps it makes no difference)?

    $3,987 for 4?
    sounds like a deal

    • Maybe they serve lobsters and caviar?

      • maybe they load you in the luggage hold

  • Ok, thanks.

  • That's a great deal. Do it.

Make sure it's AUD not USD but regardless it's a bargain for Sept school holidays.

  • $1000 AUD return pp to europe during the school holidays?

Yes OP, it normally doesn't get much better than that! Lock it in

I usually find buying airfares way in advance means you pay the stock price (high), and buying them within a few weeks of your chosen dates may mean the flights are near sold out (very high). I think the best time to buy flights is months out, or right before you need to travel. Airlines sometimes dump prices to avoid flying half full planes.

Having said that, 4 people all inc on a premium airline to London for $1k each is a screaming hot deal. Take it. Take it now.

  • that is a very good price. grab it.

  • Agree 1k is a great price. Even in sales premium airlines charge 1.2k at the minimum.

  • Good price for school holidays.
    I want to go now.
