Since you're going to get our email address are you going to add us to any marketing lists?

    • +1

No, we don't sell or use any of your personal information without your explicit permission (eg, sharing a trip on social media).
We have a very simple privacy policy and our app only uses necessary permissions for it to function and no more.

    • Fyi, they didn't get your email from requesting the coupon.

They get your email address, Google Id, full name, account image, and dob, as basic account information from requiring sign in with Google account.

Then of course, there is the GPS data which will show journey beginnings or ends, i.e. a home address.

Do we really know how this data is being stored and secured?

      Tmi for me - uninstalled.

  • : we score your trip against over-speeding, braking, turning maneuver, acceleration and deceleration categories, and give detailed drill down information to help you drive better.

How does it know that? Would you need a phone with a Accelerometer / magnetometer for this to work?

    • We use the GPS sensor, and combine it with a road network database and some algorithms on top to handle the analysis. You don't need an accelerometer sensor for the app to work. Once the vehicle is above a certain speed, and provided the GPS reception is good, the GPS can be quite accurate. The accelerometer is more unreliable and can produce many false positives on some devices.

  • Is my driving information / location / history shared with your company or stored remotely?

    • +1

Your driving history will not be shared with any third party without your explicit consent (eg when sharing a trip on social media). Since data collection of personal information is such an important subject, we have made our privacy policy as simple and straightforward as possible..

      • Just like Strava I guess…

        • +1

No, because according to Strava's privacy policy, they share user data without consent to third parties.

  • good

  • Wonder if coppers could use this as proof to book you for speeding

    • +1

Then don't. Use this app to help yourself and others.

  • +8

'Identify inefficiencies: we identify time based inefficiencies by breaking your trip into segments and scoring them on the actual time vs the estimated time.'

3:14pm - You stopped to pee.

Efficiency tip: Don't buy coffee at 2:17pm.

    • The trip time efficiency score is not so much a measure of driver performance, but meant to indicate routes that have congestion or roadworks, etc.

The weekly trip time efficiency heatmap report could be reviewed and the driver may use this information to consider some alternative routes or change the timing for the trip next time (for example).

  • +3

Will the Pro upgrade survive an app reinstall or a device reset?

    • Yes it will. All trips up until the last 90 days will be restored, including your PRO version upgrade.
It is tied to your Google Play Store account.
App settings won't be restored though.

  • Within a few minutes of signing on and following the instructions I received automated notifications from Google that someone has my account password and that someone had attempted to log in from the Gold Coast in QLD. I did use the GMail app to send the email, which I haven't done in some time but this is very suspicious. Anyone else seen similar?

    • Other members may be able to comment but I get these types of messages all the time when I use a new browser. The number of Google's account security warning emails seem to have doubled in the last 6 months or so.

      • +2

I know what the usual message looks like.

This MAY be related to attempting to send mail from K9 mail or old GMail app but it isn't the normal email. For a start it lists device as unknown and location in Gold Coast with IP address 1.129.182.55 that a reverse lookup lists as dns0.telstra.net. I think what may have happened is that K9 is misconfigured for sending from my Gmail account and tried to send my gmail via the Telstra server somehow. But I've never had such a problem before.

EDIT: Yep looks like that was it. Email sending through K9 now works after following step 3.

Too bad I can't unmark the flagged suspicious action.

Limited only to Aussie drivers? Can it work overseas?

    • +1

We currently support USA, Netherlands, NZ and England. We do plan to roll out to other countries in the future.

      • Thanks for the quick reply

        • No worries. I better get back to processing all these upgrade requests in my inbox! :-)

  • -2

hmmm.. overall thoughts anyone? seems to good to be true..

    • +2

We are an Aussie startup and it's very important for us grow our user-base following our release.
Our focus is improving the user experience, getting more users, improving driver safety.

More than happy to offer free upgrades in return for some buzz around the product. And if you like the app, please rate on the app store - a high rating is extremely important for us to gain user confidence. If you are not happy with the app or having issues, please email us at [email protected] and we will sort it out.

  • +1

    @steeringup,
If I upgrade my phone in the future, will the PRO Version be transferred to my new phone?

    • +2

Yes it will, as long as you use the same Google Play Store account email address. It is tied to that account. Also, all previous trips for the last 90 days will be restored. However, settings won't be restored.

  • how/would this work with boats out on the water?

    • It won't work with boats - any GPS trace that can't reasonably be snapped to the road network is ignored.

For vehicles, smaller off road sections belonging to trips that mostly belong to the road network are kept though (eg. a long dirt driveway leading to the property). However, driving analysis for these off road sections are limited in detail.

Also, the app may not be of use for farm vehicles or off road motorbikes, as these types of vehicles don't normally don't go on the roads.

      • tks, it would be nice to use it boats

This is why i got married!

    • +8

      This is cheaper.

      • +5

        and can be switched off

  • +1

Any chance you can add an option to select the bluetooth device that automatically starts trip recording rather than recording with 'any' bluetooth device connection?

    • +3

Unfortunately not now but we are working on this important feature and expect it to be rolled out into production in the next 2 weeks. I'll ping you when it's ready.

As a side note, for those drivers that can pair their phone with the car, and the pairing connection is stable, automatic trip recording via blue-tooth pairing detection works really well.

    • +1

@sockmafia Just letting you know that feature is implemented and should be available in the Google Play Store for update/install.

  • +3

Big + for OP for the rapid responses. Fingers crossed this is something I will actually use!

  • Thanks OP, installed, lets see how it goesw

  • Would this app still be useful for 4wd driving say in the top end/kimberleys?

    • +1

Generally, for the analysis and recording to work correctly, the trips should not be off-road. In other words, the trip should belong to the established, paved road network.
Having said that, please check this url, zoom in, and see if your 4WD trails are covered.

If the coverage is good, then it may be possible that it records correctly.

  • Op, I have android stereo in the car. Does it need phone connection or internet connection to work ?

    • +1

No, it doesn't need an internet connection to record trips. Trips are saved and once your device has an internet connection, then it will attempt to send the trip and get the report.

      • Thanks op..it seems to be incompatible with most of my android devices except my xiaomi note 3 running latest android. Is there a min android version required for install. Was looking to install in my car but seems like it's not going to happen.

        • Yes, it has to be version 21 or above (Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher). Sorry about that.

        • +1

@steeringup: thanks for your reply. Not a problem about that. I knew that some apps will require android to be on a certain level. All good. šŸ‘

      • +1

For privacy it could be better if the app included all relevant info such as street maps to plot the GPS record against. It would seem uploading each trip to a server that may at some point have compromised security could potentially leak users logs.

        • +1

          Thanks for your comment.

The hardware tech in modern mobile devices just doesn't have the computing power to handle the type of in depth analysis we do. It's not even close - we need modern servers maxed out with ram, large SSDs and complex tech stacks.

There are a few similar apps in this space that do client side, real time analysis, but the analysis is lackluster, in part because they can't implement or leverage server side technologies.

Security best practices have been implemented from day one. Cutting corners or doing it "later" is just asking for trouble.

  • This sounds pretty cool! Would love to see how inefficient drifting in my 86 is.

    • +2

AE86 drifting? Looks like we have a tofu delivery driver.

  • thanks. email sent.

  • I was thinking if there was an app like this for motorbike riding a few days ago, and now I find this by chance… Just one question will this app work foe riders? I guess only the turnings will be different. Still The app looks great for me, specially mapping the routes, thanks!

    • +2

Generally it should work fine for motorbike riders. However, if you ride like most motorbike riders, you will probably get penalized excessively for harsh acceleration.

To resolve problems like this, we plan to add vehicle specific profiles (eg motorbike, heavy vehicles, etc) that have appropriate thresholds for their class. Unfortunately I can't give you an ETA on that but it is an important feature and it is on our radar.

      • +1

        Noooooooooo, don't do that!

I'm working on a high score.

        • +1

          … I mean a low score :-/

  • +1

Will this app and waze work together? I don't use Google maps when driving

    • Snap!

    • Yes it should. It will continue to record in the background.

  • Does it have to be open to log the trips? Would be great if it didn't, otherwise it'll have to compete with Waze for me..

    • +1

No, the screen can be off and if auto trip detection is enabled the trip should get detected and recording will start in the background. Recording will stop when a certain period of non-movement is detected. You can basically throw your phone in your pocket*, drive, and forget about it.

If auto trip detection is not enabled, then the user will have to start the app, manually start recording. The screen can be turned off if the user chooses, and it will continue to record in the background until the user manually stops the trip, or a stop condition is detected. Automatic stop detection is in place to prevent a scenario when the user forgets to manually stop a trip and later finds his/her battery flat.

*to improve GPS reception, please check this url.

      • Sweet, going to give it a crack!

  • +1

"Your device is not supported" an android headunit :(

  • OP serious question, why would I want to download an app that spys on my driving habits and tracks my location? what do I get out of it?

    • +2

Nothing but some algorithm telling you that you can't drive. LOL!

    • Its not called spying if you install the app and allow it to track your driving (for your own good though!). If it is spying, then the app is not even installed in first place, just saying.

    • I've recently noticed how inaccurate car speedos are compared to gps measurement, so was thinking of looking for an app that just shows my speed and the speed limit I'm currently in.

  • Sorry but I sent it twice by mistake. Thanks for the offer :)

  • My parents and siblings already call me out on everything when I drive. Now you guys want to do it too! No!

Anyway, thanks for giving us this deal! Hope you do well!

  • This app is incompatible with all of your devices.

    :-(

  • One issue is my train ride calculated as I'm driving by auto trip detection :-(

    • Unfortunately public transport can cause false positives with the trip detection.

If you are able to pair your car and phone using Bluetooth (and provided it is the only pairing on your phone) then that would be the best workaround for this issue.

We do plan to add a feature where auto-trip detection is active only during certain user specified hours of the day. Therefore, during your daily commute the detection would temporarily be disabled.

If Bluetooth is not an option, unfortunately for the time being you will have to delete or cancel those false positive trips, or if this becomes annoying, switch over to manual recording.

      • google distinguishes between driving and train rides. Maybe you need to look at the map and see whether I'm on a road or a rail line??

      • Hi,

"phone using Bluetooth (and provided it is the only pairing on your phone)" can't do that as my smart watch use bluetooth and your app continuously running when I do so.

        • +1

We plan to release an app update this week for Bluetooth that triggers recording when only a specific (user specified, eg. the vehicle) Bluetooth pairing makes a connection. That hopefully should help with your particular issue. Just keep in mind that some/most cars only support a single Bluetooth connection at a time, so if your car has other pairings, they may have to be removed or given a lower priority.

I'll let you know when the update is released, and would be interested in your feedback.

        • @podilamaya Just letting you know that feature is implemented and should be available in the Google Play Store for update/install.

        • @steeringup:

Thank you, and now app working as expected.
only complain is, you guys are too aggressive on breaking ;-)

        • +1

@podilamaya: We have almost finished implementing a feature in settings that when enabled, slightly reduces sensitivity thresholds for scoring. It is undergoing testing and should be released on the play store by the end if this week, it should be useful for you. Thanks for your feedback.

  • damn not compatible with my phone

  • The apps seem to be user friendly hope it does when I'm going on a trip. The last thing I need the misses cursing me all the way and back.

  • +1

Had this auto detect my drive tonight. Looks pretty damn good, I must say! I like it!

  • No iOS app?

    • iOS version is planned, it is a very important market for us. However development has not started and we don't have an ETA at this stage unfortunately. Currently our main focus is improving the user experience for Android. Thanks for your interest.

  • Is it possible to connect to obd2 data to get more detailed information?

    • No plans ATM. It may be integrated / implemented in the future, pending R&D and reviews.

  • +1

Thanks OP. You deserve more upvotes.

  • What do I actually get out of installing and using this app? What do other people who have installed like best about it?

It looks like a city mapping solution with minimal benefits to the actual user (I can't imagine looking at the data once the novelty wears off). Happy to hear from people who have downloaded and installed.

    • I just had my first two auto-logged trips.. and I was pleasantly surprised by how cool the app is. The funniest part for me was how it tracks and analyzes your driving speed into and out of corners.. it picked up that I drive a little enthusiastically sometimes! You can drill down and see speed at various intervals of your cornering.

      • +3

You liked it so much, you decided to post your first ever OzBargain comment?

        • Very true!

I guess what prompted me was that I was surprised with what I got.. usually i'm just buying stuff I was looking out for anyway, so this was a pleasant surprise… for free!

        • +1

He has been registered as a user for a while so chances of sock pupetting pretty low.

      • Thanks for the reply. I am just about convinced I should give it a go! :)

  • Hopefully inspires the majority of drivers to not race to red lights, not to overly rely on brakes and to maintain a safe distance between vehicles.

  • Thanks for sharing this. Sounds interesting, so I'm giving it a go.
Super quick response on the code redemption, too!

Is there any chance of including this in Family Library?

    • Cheers!
RE Family Library, the PRO version is an in-app upgrade, which according to Google, excludes it.

You can't share in-app purchases and free apps with your family members.

      More info here

  • I have a Xioami note 4x. The app is just showing me the Region screen and freezing. Anyone else have same issue?

    • @vivekviswa can you pls contact us at [email protected] we will try and help resolve the issue.

  • I don't understand the option for Bluetooth pairing - is this combined with the normal trip detection? If not, it seems like a no brainer to give that option i.e. when app thinks trip started + a bluetooth device is connected then start recording.

    Thanks :-)

    • If "Bluetooth pairing for detection" is ticked, it will override the default, movement based detection, not supplement it.

If these conditions have been met:

      • your car supports Bluetooth
      • your mobile has been paired to the car
      • the only pairing on your mobile is to the car (note. we plan an update sometime this month that will remove this restriction)

Then I would definitely recommend giving it a go. The auto trip detection should be a lot more accurate.

  • Rep,

How do you manually remove some automatically recorded trips? I had some trips on a bus that were recorded as me driving (understandable) but I'd like to manually remove these if possible.

    • Menu -> Trip Log -> [locate and tap on the trip] -> tap on the "red plus" button in the bottom right to bring up the trip menu, delete from there.

      • Ah found it. Thanks.

I'm embarrassed I didn't find it myself. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff!

Also if I have one trip which I broke up to refill, go get a coffee, and want to combine it, is there any way to do that? Or would you actually recommend against it at all?
