  • Looking for a cover case, Clearview or LEDview?

    • +1

LED view. Clearview scratches too easily.

    • Do you ever want to prop your phone on it's side to watch videos? Thats what swayed me to the Clearview. Also I always have my wallet with me so the card slots on the LEDview werent of use to me.

      • I have this case. I find the angle is impractical unless your desk is very high.

As for the card slot. If you use samsung pay or android pay and put your license in the phone, theoretically you could travel lighter by not needing to take your wallet with you most of the time.

    • I had the same dilemma when the phone released. I ended up going with Clearview because more information can be displayed on the case. But disappointingly, it disables AOD. There's no reason why AOD couldn't be showing through the cover. You can have the clock permanently displayed on the cover, but that's it.

Since buying the case, I've always wondered if I picked the wrong one. It was $10 cheaper than LED view and both of them are overpriced, but that ended up being the deciding factor. Having said that, if I went with LED instead, I might have felt the same way and wished I got the Clear View instead. At this price, it's a fair price for either case.

The LED view feels nicer in the hand, but its display is limited. The resolution is very low, so you can't do that much with it. And the clock doesn't stay on.

With the Clear view you can see the name of whoever is calling you. You can see multiple notifications, though can't read them. The clock shows the date, and whatever personalized message you put on the lock screen. When charging, it shows an estimate of when it will be fully charged. You also see your battery level, reception bars, and all the stuff you would normally see at the top of your lock screen. If you're playing a song, you can skip, pause/play or previous track. And you get all of this information at once, not one at a time and must toggle through them. The LED view does none of this. Some of them it can do like pause/play but you don't get other info with it at the same time. The actual display window of info is very small, whereas CV uses the entire cover for a display.

With CV, when your cover "wakes up" (i.e. you get a notification, call, or alarm), you get all the info you would normally get on the lock screen. It basically is the lock screen. When your LED view wakes up, you only get info specific to what just happened (alarm, call, clock, or text).

I think the Clearview is the more practical of the two but I wish the cover was clear and not tinged with the colour of the case. And I wish it supported AOD. I also prefer the S-view style case that Samsung has discontinued.

The LED view feels nicer and more premium, but to see who's calling you will need to open the cover. When someone texts you, the text icon will appear for a few seconds and disappear. You can't see the message or who sent it. All it does is let you know that you received a text. But you know what? So does the notification sound you would hear when a text comes in. So what practical use is this? If you had it on silent, you still wouldn't know you received a text unless it was in front of you. If it's in your pocket, you won't see the notification.

  • Wish I had seen this earlier!

  • I ended up grabbing a genuine Lifeproof case for $70 delivered on fleabay

    Figured it was cheap insurance

    • How is the lifeproof case? I heard it doesn't sit flush on the screen and is a pain (as well as down volume button not working with cover after a while)

      • How is NOT having a lifeproof case? Not having a go at you but I honestly would only consider the Otterbox (but that doesn't have the screen protector) otherwise

I'm incredibly happy with it, cheap insurance in my opinion! Wouldn't hesitate to grab another one in a millisecond! The alternative is much, MUCH worse! (The shattered screen that is)

        • Haha fair enough, my brother had one for his iPhone and its really good! I've already ordered a Lifeproof for the s8 which is coming in the mail sometime this week, but after reading reviews on the s8 and problems with the curved screens and such made me hesitant/ question whether to refund it.

          Thanks for the reply!

        • @aykay123: Meh… it'll take a week for it to stick itself down. Remember… you want to get a good solid wireless charger with it. As soon as you open that flap on the bottom to connect the USB charge cable. That sucker will let dust in which will then settle on the screen which pisses me right off!
