Beware Hungry Jacks Charges Double Cheese for Their Promotions [Update Community]

Hi OzBargainers

The new promotion for Whopper with free fries and coke is a scam. On the menu it does not state any surcharge when adding, but I was charged 2x cheese for adding 1x cheese. I ask the vender and they said it’s in the terms and condition but they did not state it on their menu that you would be charged a premium surcharge for 1x cheese on this promotion.

Everyone is getting tricked when they add cheese and being charged double. Normally they only charge 1x cheese

Just wanted a community update for OzBargain frugal Hungry Jacks munchers #doublecheese

“Thank you” for promoting the thread

Update: From Hungry Jack's Rep:

Sorry for the confusion a cheese add-on to our standard flame-grilled Whopper consists of two slices of cheese which is why “2 x Cheese” appears on your receipt. We really appreciate you making us aware of the confusion, we have changed our receipts, from now on they will say “2 Cheese Slices” starting from 8.2.18.

Don't forget the surcharge on public holidays.

    • Thanks

      Haven't had it for ages

Makes it harder to remember when there isn't a surcharge.

        • Would be amazing if it was not a surcharge. And not hit with t a premium surcharge on promotions that do not state it on the menu.

    Is phone fine?

If you paid by credit card, do a chargeback for the value of one slice of cheese…. Or get over it?

  • +2

No, whopper with cheese always has two slices. When you asked for cheese they always add two slices to turn it into a whopper with cheese.

  • The Struggle is real !

  • Phew. Dodged a bullet there

Laugh Out Loud. Foxtel are also charging $10 a month for HD. #crisis

There should be two cheese on the burger. The guy making the burger probably made a mistake. Pretty sure the order comes up as whopper cheese on the back if you add cheese to the free whopper and coke meal. Whopper cheese has 2 slices of cheese on it. Source work there

    • +1

Yeah I work there as well and if you wanted a Whopper Cheese then it's 2 slices of cheese for an extra $1. Hungry Jack's are not scamming you, it clearly states in the promo "Whopper and free small fries and coke" so when you ask to add cheese to your burger then it's going to add to the price. Capiche?

P.S OP really does need to get over this; complaining about the price of cheese and being so gratuitous. Consider the $1 as the expense of a free small meal.

      • +2

        Everything, except 'Capiche'

As a true OzBargainer, I have taken my own slice of cheese to add on my whopper.

This was ofcourse a while ago, when there were $2 whopper scoopon vouchers.

    • it's just I cannot bring cheese because work has no fridge

    • What type of cheese do you use

  • +4

Every single whopper I've had only had one slice of cheese. I feel so abused

      • yeah THIS IS RIGHT! Never had two slice on one whopper.

    • I ordered one slice and got one slice for $1.

  • Thanks

  • Thanks for letting me know. How did the criminals at HJs headquarters get away with this for so long? This is the definition of white-collar crime.

Oh for the days for a free whopper when getting all the footy tips correct. And to the staff who took your word for it.

  • +2

I always add beetroot and extra free salad. put my own cheese slices. Dont know what cheese they use at maccas or burger king, its always orangey yellow looking.

I'd be interested to hear what the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) has to say about this promotion. They accept complaints and whistle blowers' feedback and have investigated many promotions to keep businesses in-check.

    • Yeah i'm interested in ACCC take on this promotion too. Not stating that you would be surcharged a premium for add-ons.

  • love OzB. FAF. Thanks

  • certainly one of the most first world problems i've ever read

  • No wonder my whopper tasted cheezier than usual. I am so mad right now.

  • bring your own cheese then

  • how much are you talking about here ? 0.70 cents or more ?

  • won't someone think of the cheese

  • Save your dorrars and get a few mcdoubles.

  • Gracias

  • They will be looking to improve their margins somehow. Important to check the receipts, thanks OP

I went to McDonalds and some tosser in black and white stripped clothes stole my burger.

To make things worse McDonalds seens complicit with this hamburgerler as they have his photo all over the shop and its not to ban him from entry but more celebrating his relationship with Ronald.

    Absolute disgrace.

  • I'm not sure why everyone's giving the OP crap. He didn't cry and tell us to avoid the palace forever.
He's just let us know. Something I didn't know.

  • The burgers are better at hungry Jack up the prices.

I am still confused why the hungry jacks staff said that it was because of the promotion that it had to be surcharged 2x cheese.

Can I add 1x cheese to a flamed grilled whopper? I have been charged 1x cheese since “2008”. Hasn’t the the rules changed?
