I got this deal sent to my email and It says it's only a one time code.
Seems decent for price and specs. I guess you just sign up and use the code?

This code is not unique and is also infinite use.

Got the same code in my email. "This coupon is unique and can only be used once." - good one JB.

  • Got the same code 92948291932

Dell loves to rape the Aus market with inflated RRP's. $500 makes it competitive but not a bargain.

Metabox same specs ($1799 with 16gb ram):

    Msi:

    • THB i wouldn't buy a Metabox or MSI tho

      • What's your opinion on Metabox and MSI? Who would you buy for a gaming laptop? (genuinely curious, thinking about buying my first gaming laptop)

        • +1

Some people say it had heating problems but the Acer Predator Helios 300 from Amazon still wins for me for sub $1600 AUD shipped

You can score some better deals on gumtree sometimes just look up all the GTX 1060 laptops you know and go bargain hunting haggling.

      • I agree re MSI. Shitty post purchase support.

However, everything I have read about Metabox has said that the product is of a good quality and they are quite easy to deal with post sale. Furthermore - the prime range has a metal shell so it should be a little more durable than the inspiron.

Having said all that - I'd still buy a Lenovo. I've only had one issue with the laptops I've had over the years and they offered replace or refund the price of it straight away.

Metabox is sans OS, so closer to $2k price if you're paying for retail Windows.

The MSI looks to be 3GB VRAM (cf. 6GB), 8GB RAM (cf. 16GB), and not sure that's an IPS panel.

I've been interested in maybe getting a gaming laptop (all I've got is an Inspiron 15 with a middling i5 and radeon m445), so the price:performance on this Dell looks OK compared to what I've seen out there.

I'm still unsure about gaming laptops - this would be more expensive than the desktop I built last year and obviously less powerful (Ryzen 5 1600, 1060 6GB, 16GB), and I don't feel they're very good products (too hot and loud, poor battery life/sucks too much wattage for a portable battery, poor longevity, little to no capacity to upgrade).

I've been teasing with the idea of doing a "portable desktop," which would involve a mini-ITX build with a DIY monitor made from a replacement laptop screen and control box (is that crazy?). I'm waiting for Volta anyway…

      • I'm also waiting for Volta. I have a 1050ti Lenovo currently which does a solid enough job for the time being - albeit the only gaming I'm doing currently is playing Civ 6. But it does a good job with the adobe suite, including premier. Hopefully, Volta lives up to the hype!

Re the pricing on this unit - completely agree with you. Twas using them both as an example of 'non special' pricing which is in the same bracket.

        • I suppose a 1050ti shouldn’t be too taxing.

Does it run hot? Loud? Battery discharges quickly when not on AC?

        • @FatPenguin:

Heat - not too bad. Although, I wouldn't hold it in my lap while gaming.

Loud- not really. It hasn't got a ridiculous cooling system like the dell.

Battery - pretty bad. If I'm doing anything taxing, it will last around an hour.

      • How much power did your desktop use overall at idle normal and heavy load.

This is my deciding factor for a desktop versus a laptop as the costs saved might be able to pay for the increased electricity costs compared to a laptop.

  • Got the same code too 92948291932.

  • I have the lower grade version of this laptop (7300HQ, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD only) which I purchased on this sale: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/344493
I upgraded the ram to 16gb and added a 1tb hdd for about $200 all up, post delivery.

Haven't found the 7300HQ to be lacking at all and personally wouldn't value the improvement to the 7700HQ to be worth more than $100.

    • How did you go with the HDD install? I haven't done mine yet but plan too. I was reading up on the Dell forums and a bunch of people were having issues due to the BIOS settings and default controller settings on the SSD/HDD. Did you have to fiddle around changing the BIOS settings or could you just plug and play?

  • That's a damn good laptop for the price. I can't figure out what the refresh rate of the screen is though. If it's above 75hz it could be awesome gaming experience. The CPU/GPU combo will be perfect for 1080p gaming.

    • it's good, but you see prices like this come around. I picked up an Acer with 1070m last year for around $1650, that was a stellar deal.

      • The refurbished ones? Yeah they were the best deals for gaming laptops ever in the history of Ozbargain and Australian gaming laptops.. American wise I think I saw a dude score a 1080 laptop with 16-32gb for like 1900 USD.

  • If anyone need a copy of the email, send me a PM with your email.

  • Expires 7th Feb or when stock runs out.

  • Is this the same product at the Dell ebay store for $1899?
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-Gaming-Cor…

    • Nah that one has a 1050ti

      • Good call, I was browsing various models and missed that.

  • There's currently 2 refurb Alienware 15s with very similar specs in the DFO for cheaper. They have better cooling and are more game-oriented - I'd probably go for that instead.

  • After a few months of looking, bit the bullet and bought it today. Thanks OP!
