[PC] Assassin's Creed II FREE @ Ubisoft (Via Chrome Add-On Proxy/China VPN)

740

Greetings everyone, spotted this over at MyDealz and looks like a decent freebie! I know AC IV was free recently but this seems pretty good as well :)

Really easy to get, download the Chrome Add-On GeoProxy, choose China in the dropdown menu and search, then click on a Chinese IP and refresh the page. It will make you put your UbiSoft details in and then if successful, will let you redeem it into your Ubisoft account.

Thanks to rob359, the proxy 223.112.84.30:3128 works the best.

Please note, it looks like it's in a chinese language only..

Instructions:

  • Using the Chrome browser, download the GeoProxy extension and select the extension from the Add window.

  • Afterwards (without activating the extension) log in to ubisoft.com with your own account.

  • Be sure to leave the tab open until the end.

  • Open another tab and now activate the Geoproxy extension (blue G in the upper right corner of the browser window).

  • At Geoproxy, use the drop-down menu to select China as country. Press Search and select one of the proxies now specified.

  • Go to the Giveaway page in this tab.

  • Select Register for PC.

  • In the next window, confirm that you want to add the game to your account.

  • Finally, select Geoproxy again and select "Do not use Proxy"

It's a bit of a work around but a quick one!

As always, enjoy!

Alternative method via VPN (thanks Multipass): http://www.ubisoft.com.cn/events/sf_giveaway

As part of the up coming Chinese New Year celebrations Ubisoft (China) is giving away Assassin's Creed II for free.

It is restricted to China only and requires a China VPN (China IP) in order to access this giveaway. Note that using a VPN set to Hong Kong will not work.

Below are the instructions I used to successfully redeem the giveaway:

  1. Log into your Ubisoft account
  2. Connect to China VPN (I used Getflix SSTP connection) and confirm China IP address (I use IP Location to validate my IP location)
  3. Browse to Assassin's Creed Promotion Page.
  4. Click on the 'Register for PC' button. If you do not see this and receive an error message saying that this is not for your region check that you are using a China IP.
  5. You should receive a "The game has been added to your library!" message.
  6. Log into Uplay and confirm Assassin's Creed II has been added to your account.

If the Promotion Page doesn't load or you are having problems, you can try the following steps in place of Step 3 in the aforementioned steps:

  1. Browse to the Ubisoft Giveaway page, it will load with a link to the Assassin's Creed II promotion page.
  2. Click on the RED button above the Assassin's Creed II banner, the one with the shopping trolley icon.
  3. You will be redirected to the promotion site (https://free.ubisoft.com/promotions/Assassins_Creed_2/19)

Mod: As per this comment the game may be set to Chinese language.

Great game. Much better than AC3.

  • Would a VPN work?

    • Yep a VPN should work fine, as long as you can get a Chinese IP then you can access it.

      • +1

Tried HK. No dice. I don't have a cN VPN, so I might try your workaround tomorrow when I can muster enough energy for it.

        • +1

Yeah think it's only China VPN's, not HK, my work around took minutes for me, didn't find it difficult at all!

        • +1

          @doweyy: Not difficult. I'm just lazy. :)

BTW that only proxy that worked for me was 223.112.84.30:3128

    • Thanks for the update, so it worked all good for you and you were able to redeem?

      • Yes :) had to try like 8 other listed proxies

        • +1

Too easy, have put it into the post thanks!

        • @doweyy:

how to set the proxy to 223.112.84.30:3128 using geoproxy or some other way?

    • how to set that proxy using geoproxy?

      • It was in the list yesterday. Otherwise u can just set it directly in settings in chrome.

Heads Up. only chinese language as i suspected

    • Oh damn didn't even think about that.. I reported it for Not Available as this method doesn't seem very reliable, this makes it a dud deal, please report also if possible..

      • Looks like they outfoxed you here.

  • Thank you so much, one more AC game in my collection!

  • Worked perfectly! Thanks OP.

  • Doh! The Ozb search didn't show your post doweyy :)

    • That was our fault, the deal was previously removed by another moderator due to the reported language issue and request for the post to be removed. However due to the popularity I decided it was best to republish it and added a warning instead, technically it doesn't break our guidelines and would still be useful to some. If anyone has any further info or a workaround for the Chinese language only issue, please report the deal so it can be added into the OP.

  • awesome used SoftEther vpn to get this
    thanks mate

    Is Taiwan considered China?

    • you kidding right ?

      • +1

Well, China claims Taiwan and no government recognises Taiwain's "independence", so it's a perfectly valid question.

        • Taiwan also claims China as well. Maybe one day they'll be successful

    • Legally, yes. For the purpose of a VPN in getting this deal, I doubt it. If HK didn't work, and they celebrate CNY just the same, I don't see why it would work for Taiwan.

  • i registered the game but now my uplay wont load, it stuck at initializing ?

    • Double click on the uplay box/window..

  • How the heck can you play the game if it’s all Chinese?

    • +1

      Learn Chinese.

      • +1

How do you say "D'uh, Chinese is so easy to learn" in Chinese?

      • -2

What a smartass comment. So you will learn another language just to play this game? Nice one, bravo if you do.

  • Do we need regsiter a new uplay account? Chinese uplay account is not same as existing uplay account?

  • +2

This is a bit of a dodgy method but if you manage to get an English .iso rip of the game installer you can install it to your uplay folder and update the game to version 1.01, when you access your uplay library the Chinese version will be overwritten with the English version (provided you have not yet installed the Chinese version). Where it previously said "Install" it will say "Update" and clicking it will simply launch the English version. I downloaded the .iso (plus version 1.01 update) from here. Keep in mind this download also contains a crack however you shouldn't crack the game in order to play it; uplay will confirm you do own the game.
