[SOLVED] Answered a Suspicious Call, Now Paranoid about Hackers Gaining Access to My Phone!

I received a call from +386 41 407 242. I picked it out and there was back and forth "hello" from the both of us. Call lasted for 7 seconds and she hung up.

I knew I had made a mistake as soon as I picked it up. I have blocked one of my bank accounts as precaution and removed the credit card saved on my ApplePay. However I was advised that if the phone security was compromised then the hackers would know everything I do on it, including opening up new bank accounts.

Now the question is, can they actually gain access to my phone via our 7 seconds call? I did not press any number or called back.

    Go into witness protection now.

    They're watching everything.

Ah crap they know me now too

I had a look too, I don't think you're that interesting. Sleep tight.

      • And you're impressed with people's ozbargain career? Says a lot about you….

        • I'll add a note to your (rather thin) file about humour impairment and generally touchiness.

Err, I mean I had another look and just noticed that bit. Yeah, that's it.

        • @D C: wasn't it your bed time?

Wait….you're the ba$tard that called op aren't you??

          A scamming, voyeuristic ozbargainer…

do you have enough tin foil for your hat?

you know they can read your brain waves.

as for your phone, you can safely rid any malware they might have installed by placing it in the microwave on low for 2 minutes.

DO NOT follow altomic's advice!! Placing electronics in the microwave can do some serious damage and void any warranty you have left, unless heating is properly monitored to avoid overheating. Below gives you an approximate conversion depending on the wattage of your microwave.

      800w 120sec
      1000w 99sec
      1200w 80sec
      1800w 52sec
      2100w 42sec
      2200w 40sec
      2700w 35sec
      3000w 34sec

If the malware is still on your phone afterwards, you can try increasing heating time on subsequent attempts.. I suggest no more than 5sec longer each time.

      Hope that helps.

What about the camera in the microwave? Obama is still watching.

I put masking tape over my microwave when I'm not using it. Friends said I was stupid, but I mean duh, why else is it called 'masking' tape?

Lol nothing on the linked article mentions them getting access to your phone… what drugs are you on, and where can I get some?!

  • +4

    You have been hacked.

For security reasons you should park your money in my bank account and probably best to temporarily transfer your assets into my name.

    PM me to organise

Yep your phone is hacked. The only way out is to destroy it.

Protip: Never answer your phone, even from numbers you recognise. You never know the true intention of a phone call.

    • I usually am pretty cautious of calls like this but a few major events took place simultaneously today and I so happened to be looking at my phone…

You're in danger, burn all your personal identifications so the crooks wont find you as easily.

We can't go on together with suspicious minds….

  • Have you watched any suspicious tape recently?
Was there lots of statics on the phone?
Best put on a 7-day timer just in case..

    Seriously, quit the drugs.

Did you even read the article you linked to? No hacking was mentioned - just dumb prople calling people overseas for no reason and getting surprised they’ve called a “premium” number.

  • I got a call from this number too earlier this afternoon. Call only lasted 2 seconds though.

And still don't know if you were trolling

  • Ha, got a missed call from that number too. Probably a robot dialer. No way I'll return the call, even if it's an overseas number I recognise because my friends have low cost ways of reaching me.
