Magic Hand Carwash - Get 12 Free Washes When You Get a Full Detail in February (Starting at $299 for a Sedan/Hatch)

03

As I don't post often, here is my obligatory apology in advance for any omitted information.

Just got an email from Magic Hand Carwash, offering a 'a year's free' outside washes if you get a full detail during February. The offer is for 12 free outside washes that can be used through to 7 February 2019. The terms don't mention anything about only redeeming one a month, or having to stagger the free washes.

A full detail starts at $229 for a sedan/hatch, $349 for a wagon/SUV and $399 for a 4WD or 7-seater. Outside washes are $22, $25 and $29. So for a sedan, a $229 full detail now would get you $264 worth of outside washes.

The full detail includes (website terminology, not mine): Superior Service - Paint Cleansing Treatment - Carpets & Mats Steam Cleaned - Leather Clean & Condition or Seats Steam Cleaned - Under Bonnet Clean - Cut & Polish.

If you are open to washing and detailing your car at such an establishment, the numbers seem to stack up.

EDIT: It says you need to sign-up to Aspire (the newsletter service) https://www.magichcw.com.au/aspire/ - this also offers $10 off your first inside and out wash, so I believe the deals can be stacked.

Can I get some free scratches with this deal too?

  • +5

And prepare to have your paintwork scratched beyond repair by teens who couldnt care less.

Sorry op your intentions are good, but this is a deal only to people who don't really care about their cars

    • How they manage to scratch it?

      • +1

Dirty sponges that fall on the ground etc.

If you don't really care about your car, then it's fine as your car most likely has lots of swirl marks anyway.

Shout out to the scumbag who owns the doncaster franchise and his scumbag mate in head office.

    • What did they do?

      • +10

Car gets a nice ding with some lovely white paint on the side of my car. So of course I protest the damage. The franchise owner denies it then we go to the CCTV. It shows me pulling up to park prior to the wash with no damage at all on it. The manager then switches off the screen and asks me to leave. I wanted a copy of that footage, which of course they wouldn't hand over. After bringing it up with head office Nathan the 'general manager' sided with his franchise and denied responsibility. The video evidence was there, they know what happened but they control the tapes. Without that footage there was no point in taking it further.

Left a review? Would help others. I definitely won't go to any of them.

        • @mbck:
I did not leave a review. I always thought those review sites were garbage and would delete it anyway.

        • +3

          @Expon:
          Google review?

        • +2

          @Expon:

Google review it, I always do. I've actually had free shops call and ask me to change it. Then I tell them to get stuffed.

I always Google before, especially car places

        • +1

@Expon: Google / Facebook / Product Review is where I would be heading if I was you. The business cannot delete the reviews.

    • +2

I would have called the cops immediately.

You're a better person than me. I'd get my revenge.

  • +1

Honestly, I would really avoid Magic hand car washes and other similar franchises if you care about your cars.
Made a mistake of going to one and learned my lesson the hard way.
    Just putting this out there.

Heard nothing but bad things about this place.
Would be alright if they actually cared.

I appreciate your effort OP, but this company is a bunch of rotten eggs.

I humbly accept both your appreciation and neg vote. Have you had your car washed at one of these outlets? Name and shame the one that gave you such an unpleasant experience.

      • Best to avoid this group if head office if practices are the same,I guessing it's part of routine

How much for the Magic Hand Happy Ending?

  • +1

No thanks….don't want my crash scratched and trashed…

I'll do it myself at home for $0

    • Neighbors water and home made soap?

A lot of crapping on the car wash deals every time one comes up. I dunno about the validity of said crapping on but are there ANY which are decent? By these comments it doesn't seem like any car wash places are worth my time.

I usually hand wash my own car and I'm careful but I would like recommendations on where I can get it done professionally.

    • There must be a few people out there that use hand car washes, I drive past three almost every day and if the sun’s out the queue is usually four or five deep.

They must be all brain dead and hate their vehicles, if the response here is anything to go by. That might be true. Or maybe they consider themselves time poor. I don’t really know.

Personally I spend about $100 a year buying Autoglym products and decent sponges and chamois and keep my newer vehicle in reasonable shape. I also have an older hatch that is full of imperfections - it would be the one I’d consider subjecting to a commercial hand wash.

If I can reccomend anything - it's Bowden's cloths for drying!

Get yourself a big green sucker for drying. A big softie cloth for applying spray wax/detailer/shine.

It works so well as a final step.

        • Thanks! Will try. Have seen those big green things!

    • Would want to know if anyone has any recommendations for the car wash also.
Seems like all car wash place would scratch your car.
From machine to self-serve to the hand car washes, most are not recommended.

I used to wash the cars myself, but these days just don't have the time anymore.
Wife would sometime took it to the hand car wash or the machine car wash when it is due for cleaning.
Like it or not I can't really complaint since it is really dirty and I don't have time to wash it myself.

      • It's so therapeutic to wash your own car. I think if you have the right tools (light sponges, good clothes for drying, spray wheel cleaners etc) - the whole thing can be done in 30 mins. If you have two people in can be done in under 20 mins :)

Happy to talk you through the process if you're ever keen to hear :)

If you're in Melbourne, Blue planet in city road Southbank is where I take my car every 6 months or so. Lots of people I know take their cars there, and they seem to take take good care of the cars.

      • Why only every six months?

        • +1

          Mainly because I'm tight ;)

They are also a bit of a drive from my office so I don't often make it over there unless I'm doing something nearby

    • You ask for recommendations but you don't provide your location. Kinda pointless, don't you think?

      • I'm in Sydney. My comment is really half rhetorical. I would like recommendations and at the same time by these comments it seems like there's zero legit options out there. Every car wash scratches your car, every place is a dodgy and why don't you wash your own car. They literally can't be all terrible.

I do wash my own car and I do enjoy it but I also want to know if there's place's I can take my car to that would do a pro job and at an ozb price. Maybe I haven't been around long enough but I don't think I've ever come across a deal on OzB for car wash/details where it didn't get a whole bunch of bad reviews.

Just like most things in life, you get what you pay for. I can't comment
on Sydney car washes, but generally, you should go to one that doesn't wipe the car's exterior in the sun. It's best to go in the morning before their sponges and drying towels are filthy. Try to go when it's not busy so they don't rush your car through. See if they use a different sponge for the bottom of the car which usually gets dirtiest.

The car wash and dry process involves contact with the paintwork, so there will invariably be slight scratches over time, even if you do it yourself. Some places just do a worse job than others.

  • Is the car wash extreme? Extreme or no deal

  • +1

A big part of why these car washes suck is where they get employees from.
I happen to know (from darker days) that car detailing jobs are often forced on Centrelink job seekers by job service providers to keep their payments.
I think the majority of these people don't want to work period, which is when these jobs are forced.

    So not great.
And it's a pity, because I'm honestly not willing to give any company my car now - even without knowing they are shit.
