Ballast Point Grunion Pale Ale 355ml Cans 24pk $55, 6pk $14.90 @ Dan Murphy's

150

Ballast Point Grunion Pale Ale is currently $55 for a slab or $14.90 for a sixer. Highly rated American pale which from memory usually sells at around $80 for a slab. The website notes that some stock may be nearing best before although the slab I bought this arvo (Mildura, Vic) had a BB of April.

  • Found this during the week but forgot to post it…
    Great buy

  • Should be cheaper for beer that will be out of date by the time you get it.

Great find thanks OP looking forward to this one. We tried their Victory at Sea porter and it's sensational, if this is even close to that in quality I will be very happy. Great price.

  • Bought, thanks.

Might not be that good of an buy, American beer doesn't do well with Dan's. Too many hot loading docks.

The IPA's from BP are supposed to be refrigerated from USA to Dan's dock, but no clue how cold they stay once they arrive. I don't think the Grunions are treated as nicely.

    • Yes risky buy. Being cans should help a lot though.

I agree that some of the stock rooms at Dan's get really hot. Which reminds me don't go buying stuff like Penfold's Grange, Bin 407 or Bin 387 from your local BWS if they store them on the top shelf behind the counter or even up in the "capping". It can get really hot up there especially overnight during a heatwave. I get that it's harder for people to steal but if your spending that sort of money on wine it should be looked after properly.

I bought some last weekend and the BB was 02/2018… I didnt know until i got them home though because its printed on the bottom of the can and not the sealed packaging. They tasted fine but 4 out of the 5 i drank frothed up uncontrolably and i lost a bit before it got poured. After the first time i let the can sit for a few mins after taking them from the fridge to see if that helped, but no…

I went back to Dans yesterday and mentioned it to the manager that they are selling beer past its BB and they thanked me for letting them know and gave me a refund, which i used to buy a 6 pack of Saint Archer IPA (7.0%) these were sitting near the counter and were discounted from $30.99 to $15.50, I checked the BB and they are still in date until the end of March.

If you get a chance the Ballast Point Unfiltered Sculpin is really good!
