  • wtf "Coupon code limit has been reached."

How many times in the past 12 months did you genuinely need one of these?

Just last night I was refused entry into a club in Northbridge for not wearing a 1.2mm Silver Plated Snake Chain Necklace.

Use case : One can carry (RJ45 extender) to his sexy neighbour's house (gift her Silver Plated Chain) with two 15m RJ45 cables who got from this deal :) and use superfast NBN internet to post a deal/comment in ozb :P

      • You could use the extender to make an Ethernet cable into a second necklace?

    • I bought an extender at the end of last month, underestimated needed cable length by 30cm (was measuring over 10m) and had spare small cables lying around.

      So once.

    • I had to spend $5.95 on one from jaycar back in December

While an RJ45 coupler would certainly work, and of course differing lengths of ethernet cable are readily available online, making your own is also very feasible and not hard at all. When I hard wired the place, I necessarily needed all my gear hooked up with patch cables. While trying to figure out the number of 1M, 1.5M, 0.5M patch cables to order, I felt that the prices were adding up.

I just went ahead and ordered 15M and a bag of RJ45s and a crimping tool. It was very affordable and I made all my patch cables EXACTLY the length I wanted them. And I still have heaps left over so can continue making custom ones if I ever need any more.

a lot of work for just avoiding $0.96

      • You're absolutely right. For a one-off it's totally overboard…

But when you're like me and was faced with needing over a dozen patch cables of varying lengths then it became a no brainer.

We hard wired a house over the weekend with a 100m box of cat 5e and similarly was sort by 30cm for the last room.. This could of come in handy..

naah.. yellow doesn't look sexy ;P

    • Too bad about this part…

NOTE: This Ethernet splitter allows two computers to share one Ethernet line, but it doesn't support both computer to connect onto the internet simultaneously.

      • It will if you assign static ip address to each computer. This will do similar task as an Ethernet switch.

This will do similar task as an Ethernet switch.

No, it's just wires connected together. At best it will be like a hub. At worst your devices will get confused and not work.

        • @abb:

Not even that. It will achieve this, using standard cables.

        • @bamzero: Your link is indeed the correct way to run two (100Mbps max) Ethernet connections over a single cat 5+ cable, but the description on Ali doesn't fill me with confidence. I think the adapter merely shorts the wires together. But I wouldn't bet money either way.

8 wire RJ-45T adapter, parallel wiring.

        • @abb:

Yeah read it again, have to agree.

"This T splitter is an intelligent device", couldn't be more untrue :)

    • Different use, that will split your 8 core cable into 2 x 4 core (ie max 100Mbps, and would need one at each end)

  • If only it was a rollover adapter. More to the collection it is then.

I use a similar RJ45 adapter in my kit for extending my console cable. The standard 6ft (or whatever it is) cables are too short for most jobs (unless you want to stand in a rack) and takes up more space than I like in my bag. I've crimped down a console cable to a few inches, I carry one of these, and then use a network cable which are literally everywhere in DC's and offices to extend the console cable. It means I can hook up a 5/10m cable and sit somewhere comfortable (much cheaper and more reliable than a Bluetooth serial adapter too). The flip side is that the USB -> Serial adapter is long enough if I'm sitting right next to the equipment or on a test bench.

    • That's pretty neat. I think I order one for that purpose.

    "widely compatible with Cat7, Cat6 Cat5e, Cat5 network"

If you do need to use Cat7 you'd never use these extenders.

    • It claims to be 10Gb capable. So you could get it for free by testing it and demanding a refund when it fails to perform.

  • Silver plate chain… Hmm valentine's ♥ day gift sorted 😍

    • Maybe for Valentines next year, based on average post times of 2-3 weeks from china

  • RJ45 joiners 3 for $1, 5 for $1.22 or 10 for @2.11 if you need that many… (not quite the same quality, but likely get the job done)
