[Unobtainable Deal] Apple Watch $218.14 for Fitness First Members (12 Month Contract + $65 Start Up Fee)

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Got this in a targeted email. Absolute bargain. FF members only.

" If you purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 - 38 mm watch a fee of $8.39 per fortnight will be charged for each fortnight that is left on your agreement.
• If your purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 - 42 mm watch a fee of $9.12 per fortnight will be charged for each fortnight that is left on your agreement."

Mod: See comments, it appears the Apple watch price is per week and not per fortnight, blamed as a misprint. The deal is therefore unobtainable and moved to forums so discussion can continue.

  • Series three nice! … but not in WA?

    • +1

Don't think we have fitness First anymore over here. They might have been bought out by Good Life Gyms. Probably a good thing too, if you ever have tried to cancel a membership with them.

Receive your Apple Watch Series 3 on a payment plan with a 12 month minimum term contract. Available in club only.

    $8.40 with a 38 mm
    $9.12 with a 42 mm
    OR
Get Apple Watch Series 3 included in a new membership when you enter a 2 year minimum term agreement

  • Wow!!!

  • T&C's…

    https://www.fitnessfirst.com.au/policies-and-legal/terms-and…

    A snippet:

    • The $65 start up fee must be paid for access to the Apple Watch Series 3 membership options.
    • Photo Identification is required before you are able to access our Apple Watch Series 3 options.
    • If you are an ex member of Fitness First you will not be exempt from the $65 start up fee.
    • For new members the Apple Watch Series 3 will be shipped at the end of the 14 day comfort guarantee.
    • For new members the Apple Watch Series 3 will only be available for credit card transactions. It needs to be the same card as that used to pay the $65 start up fee.

  • Wonder if there is any proprietary image installed on it or it's a bone stock apple watch.

    • +5

Don't think Apple would be ok with that. They're very against telcos selling Iphones filled with crapware / customisations

    • I don’t think it would even be possible. Apple needs to sign the package before it can be installed to a device I believe.

  • +2

After reading website still a bit unclear. In line with the Ozbargain spirit anyone care to elaborate on the minimum paying plan and cost for getting the watch? Thanks

    • I'm guessing it would only be worth it if you were already going to join Fitness First. Not worth joining just to get a 'cheaper' watch.

  • +2

This is for new memberships only with minimum 12 month term right? Not that cheap if you have to pay FF rates

    • +1

No I am a member already and could do it .It's not just for new memberships.

      • +1

Thanks, website is pretty terrible for spelling this out.

      • Did you have to pay another $65 startup fee?

  • +6

Price is actually from $8.40 per week on a 12month payment plan. So you're looking at $436.80 total.

    • +1

so $8.40 is per week, mean total is $436.80+65=$501.80

      • +1

Oh yes. Unless you're an existing customer.

    • Plus the $65 start up fee

    • Per fortnight, I believe, so it's more than double the OP's price $218.40 and $237.12. I agree that the FF explanation is vague, probably deliberately.

    • The T&Cs imply that's the repayment per fortnight, not weekly

      • Not very consistent. The email I received indicated weekly. Quoted below:

"As part of your membership with Fitness First you have the option to:

Get Apple Watch Series 3 from $8.40 per week on a 12 month payment plan, or
Get Apple Watch Series 3 included in a new membership when you enter a 2 year minimum term agreement*
*(Available only on a new membership agreement at current listed Fitness First prices)."

    • Where does it say per week?

If you purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 - 38 mm watch a fee of $8.39 per fortnight will be charged for each fortnight that is left on your agreement.
      • If your purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 - 42 mm watch a fee of $9.12 per fortnight will be charged for each fortnight that is left on your agreement.

      • It was in the email I received.

If it is per fortnight, then that's great. But like I said, quite inconsistent with their communication. I'd just use their T&C's to get the fortnight payment plan if you wanted the watch.

      • I have the email, you need to click learn more and it clearly states per week

    • Looks like it might be fortnightly not weekly so $302.12 including the $65 set up fee plus whatever the Gym membership costs

      https://www.fitnessfirst.com.au/policies-and-legal/terms-and…

  • not for existing members? D:

  • -1

it’s actually $8.39 per fortnight for the 38mm and $9.12 per fortnight for the 42mm.

  • +1

    Hi All,

Its not this amount. As per the terms and conditions the minimum costs are below-

6.2 Can you cancel within the minimum term?

    • If you purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 - 38 mm watch a fee of $8.39 per fortnight will be charged for each fortnight that is left on your agreement.
    • If your purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 - 42 mm watch a fee of $9.12 per fortnight will be charged for each fortnight that is left on your agreement.

  • +3

As part of your membership with Fitness First you have the option to:

Get Apple Watch Series 3 from $8.40 per week on a 12 month payment plan, or
Get Apple Watch Series 3 included in a new membership when you enter a 2 year minimum term agreement*
*(Available only on a new membership agreement at current listed Fitness First prices).

    • Where did you get per week? I got per fortnight.

      • +1

From the email from Fitness First .

The reference to fortnightly payments are for the new users who sign up for 24 months - then cancel before the end of the agreement, that is how much they have to repay towards the cost of the watch.

        From T & C's

We will charge an exit fee based on the watch purchased and how much time is left on your membership:
        • If you purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 - 38 mm watch a fee of $8.39 per fortnight will be charged for each fortnight that is left on your agreement.
        • If your purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 - 42 mm watch a fee of $9.12 per fortnight will be charged for each fortnight that is left on your agreement.
        • If you purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 via the repayment plan option you can cancel your membership in line with the Fitness First terms and conditions. All fees owing on the Apple Watch Series 3 will need to be paid in full at the time of cancellation.

  • Yeah sorry i misread, so $218.14 for the 38mm and $237.12 for each version.

  • -6

Negging only because the total minimum cost involved to obtain the watch at this price are not advised in this post.

  • Following out of curiousity.

  • Still unclear. This post needs to be clearer

  • +1

So if I'm reading this right, on a 12 month plan for existing members, you will be charged $8.39 or $9.12 weekly which is equal to $436.28 and $474.24, so not a bargain.

And if you are new member you sign up essentially for a 2 year plan and they debit the same amount fortnightly along with your membership fees so you pay the same price over the course of 2 years.

  • Has anyone worked out whether the payments are weekly (as stated in the email) or fortnightly (as per the website T&C's)?

    • +2

From how I read it, it is charged weekly on a 12 month plan or fortnightly on a 2 year plan - so it costs the same either way

      The email reads:
" Get Apple Watch Series 3 from $8.40 per week on a 12 month payment plan, or
Get Apple Watch Series 3 included in a new membership when you enter a 2 year minimum term agreement*
*(Available only on a new membership agreement at current listed Fitness First prices). "

      • This. Its double the op's estimate from my understanding however it appears as a bonus if you decide to join for 2 years

  • +2

You get the watch for free if you sign a 24 month plan. If you cancel that 24 month plan at some point, you will be charged that amount per fortnight remaining of your contract.

Sign a 12 month contract, pay $8.40 per week for the watch. Sign a 24 month contract, free watch. Sign a 24 month contract and cancel after 12 months, pay $8.40×26 (26 fortnightly payments equals one year).

    It's not rocket science.

    • +1

It’s not rocket science. Except that FF charges you 95% of the membership fees to be paid for membership cancelations without valid reasoning. At the minimum of home only membership that’s over $800 in cancellation for one year.

Don’t blindly give advice because it’s not rocket science, they’re not going to let you out for free.

      • I thought it was clear, my advice is that this isn't a deal at all, OP got the facts horribly wrong.

If anyone signs up to a gym for 24 months and cancel after 12 to get an iwatch for $200 they're an idiot even without the cancellation charges.

  • The clause

Receive your Apple Watch Series 3 on a payment plan with a 12 month minimum term contract. Available in club only.

    $8.40 per week with a 38 mm
    $9.12 per week with a 42 mm

Does not appear in the full conditions. It appears once only. If this is the case, the price is dreadful, especially when you take into account the contract conditions with FF. I think the bargain should be removed until FF make their offer absolutely clear.

  • Those who are not FF members or not considering joining FF should turn around and leave this deal. At minimum it will cost over $1000 for the watch so unless you intend to fully use your gym membership, buy the watch outright.

  • Went to the fitness first bond street just then and talk to the staff:
They said the T&C is a misprint.
    It’s all per week charge.
And they have a brochure saying those rates are at a weekly level.

  • And if u r an existing member do u need to sign up for 12 month membership to get it?

    • +1

Don’t have to. But you need to pay 52*9.12 for the 42 mm one. Not worth it , just a $20 discount.

  • TL;DR

If you want a smart watch then go buy one elsewhere
If you want to join a gym then go for it

  • agreements to goto the gym?
the gym needs to agree with me first
