  • Good camera. Spent $500 a few months ago from citiwide.

    • Second that alright, I picked up mine a few months ago from Harvey Norman for $400. The photo quality is unmatched compared to that of the Lumix and Canon ones unless there is full sunlight (in which case it's pretty similar).

Seriously though, this camera has hax (Hand Held Twilight Mode) abilities. You don't need flash, it cuts out blur and effectively decreases ISO by 2-4 fold.

  • Australian stock with manufacturer's warranty ???

    • Hi JV

Yes these come with full Manufacturers warranty and you can purchase extra if you wish. As we sell to alot of products to National Customers our warranties are never return to base so, as per the Manufacturers warranty, it is always serviced by a local authorised repair agent.

  • +1

I picked up a Lumix TZ10 for $303 (price match) from Officeworks a couple of days ago.
Not sure which camera is better though.

    • Price match to who?
Had a good run out of Panasonic Digicams myself.

      • +1

Didn't think it was worth a post at the time but just noticed that Officeworks and JB both just put their price up ($497 and $544 respectively), making it more of a bargain now I guess.

        Price matched from this site:
        http://tiny.cc/qnhnw
(Currently cheapest on Static Ice at $319)

It does clearly say International Stock but the rep at OW either didn't notice or didn't care!
I can upload the receipt when I get home from work.

        • If you could scan, that would be much appreciated as I've been looking at the TZ10 for some time. That's a great price for a local product!

        • Not to mention I want halvies with the gf so $151.50 each isn't too bad either =P
I'll scan when I get home. Is it worth making a new post?

        • Regarding creating a seperate new post, I can't see why not.

My friend has the TZ10 purchased from DWI and when you factor in saving on shipment costs and local warranty I think it's a great bargain. Extra bonus is being able to walk in to an Officeworks (we have one nearby) without having to wait the week or so waiting in shipping.

The Sony in this article seems pretty good, but for what I need, I think the TZ10 blows it away.

        • Definitely keen on that receipt!

        • +1 on that receipt

    just grabbed one!

How does one get the Free Battery as the sony Website says they send it with the camera

    • I'd like to know this too

      • +2

Hey guys. This one comes in the box (it's a special order product that we request from Sony) so no need for redemption :)

  • Will this be delivered by Xmas?

    • If you order today then the latest it should leave is Wednesday - Depending on your location in Australia you could have it by the end of the Week! Typically most deliveries to WA take approximately 5-7 working days but you should still have it by Christmas :)

      • How is your stock levels?

        • Plenty in my warehouse ready to ship, but if we run low we have an agreement with Sony so we can get more if required and they will be express delivered to our warehouse

  • I have one. Very happy with it. Paid more than $500 in May.

    • I have 2 questions for you (or anyone who owns this camera)…

      1. Can you recharge it just by plugging in the cable, or do you have to pull the battery and charge it seperately?

      2. With the 10fps continuous shooting mode, does it only take 10 shots, and then take ages to copy them to the memory card before it is ready for the next burst?

I have the DSC-TX7 which was announced at the same time as this cam, and I wanted this one, but the TX7 was available much earlier and I needed it right then. I'm thinking of upgrading to this V5, and those are my only 2 annoyances with my existing EXMOUR-R based camera.

      • 1- you need to remove the battery and charge it in its charger
2- Never tried it sorry. Can try tonight and reply if no one replies to your post till then.

        • Thanks Sharp. I'm itching to get it. But I do think the answer to question 2 will be the same as the TX7 I already have too. At least with the battery you get a second one included with this HX5. The TX7 battery is tiny.

Looking at specs etc, the HX5 and TX7 are essentially the same camera but with different form factor and lenses. Everything else is the same, sensor, processor, etc. I paid $450 back in March.

Hmmm, I'd love 10x zoom instead of my current 4x, and the bigger lens has got to be better than the tiny lens on the TX7. I'd easily trade that for a little bit thicker/heavier camera. The camera itself is totally awesome for point and shoot, and HD movies. Decisions… decisions…

        • stumo, it took 18 seconds to record 10 burst shots. I have a normal class 6 sandisk sd card. faster cards may make the time shorter. Not sure. never used this function so never needed a faster card.

I was considering tx7 7 months ago as well. I went for the zoom and gps rather than thickness an look.

I would have thought there were better cameras out there these days. this camera is almost a year old. Did you look at other options?

        • Thanks again Sharp.

Yeah that 18s speed is identical to what I have on my TX7, using both slow and fast cards. So I'm fairly sure the bottleneck is in the cameras, not the cards.

Ok well yeah, I don't think I will make the swap now. It would cost me about $100 plus eBay fees to swap out the TX7 for the HX5, and I don't think the extra zoom and battery are worth it.

Might just hold out for a nex3/5 or similar deal and keep the TX7 for basic p&s duties.

      • For your second question, the answer is yes and no. Yes it takes 10 shots and then saves. No if you use a high quality, high speed SDHC card like Sandisk, it saves pretty fast. I bought the DSC-TX7 from Videopro couple of months ago.

        • Oh thanks xiangtang, sSo what sort of time frame are we talking here?

On my TX7 using a true 7MB/s sequential write speed card, the camera takes 18 seconds to write the burst of 10 to the card. With a true 14MB/s sequential write card , it still takes 18 seconds to write the burst to the card.

Therefore I concluded that the camera had the bottleneck, not the card.

So how fast is yours at writing the burst? And are you talking about the HX5 here, or the TX7?

If the HX5 is faster then I will buy right away!

        • @stumo, I'm talking about the DSC-TX7 and I use the Sandisk Extreme 16GB SDHC Class 10. This card is really fast (minimum sustained write speed 10Mb/s). I can't say anything about the HX5 as I don't have it.

      • Ok thanks xiangtan. So how long does it take a burst of 10 to be saved on your SD card with the TX7?

  • +1

Might want to put the word "camera" somewhere in the title. I had no idea what this product was until I clicked through.

    • +1

Hi Salem. Thanks for the Tip - I have changed over now :)

  • TopBuy is selling this for only $263.05 but of course the delivery fee is $45.

    • +3

That would be grey import stock without the extra battery? Or is it Aussie stock?

  • is this camera any better then panasonic tz710

    • I too would like to know about the comparison

      • -1

tz10 is better, particularly in video

        • -1

What are you on? Video on sony HX5 is 1080i/50fps AVCHD, TZ10 is only 720p/25 AVCHD-Lite.

        • +1

numbers don't mean crap with regards to QUALITY. just like the megapixel race

just check out the video comparisons on youtube.

also the audio on the HX5's video = easily distorted and lacks bass

        • -1

just check out the video comparisons on youtube.

I prefer to watch in 1080 than on youtube.

        • That dude's test has the HX5 set to 720p and mp4 mode, so meh.

And how does your statement "tz10 is better, particularly in video" fit in with this proper review…
          http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q210grouptravelzoom/page24.a…
Where HX5 is always ranked in the "Best of the bunch" group for all results, and the TX10(aka ZS7) is always ranked "Middle of the road"?

        • if u read it.. it was down sampled from the 1080i file to make it the same resolution as the tz10

and dpreview doesn't do extensive tests of video.

i emplore you to search for "HX5" videos on youtube.. as well as "TZ10"/"ZS7" videos.. and make your own judgement on the both the video and audio quality of both cameras.. concert videos are great for such comparisons

        • and sorry i meant the solo videos of the HX5 on that channel

        • so .. how does the TZ10 do in low-light? for both video and photos? Compared to the hx5? :D

    Hi Maddie
Any offer on NEX5? Love to grab one

    • me too. nex3 or 5 would be nice with dual lens.
good guys is selling nex3 with dual lens for $798. If yous can offer a good deal I won't hold off until boxing day to see whats on offer.

      • Hey Guys - I would love to offer you a deal but unfortunately I'm restricted with what I can offer up until the boxing day sales (even then I don't really know whats going to be on sale)

Fattyman - Is this the product that your talking about with Good Guys? http://www.videopro.com.au/p-1956-sony-nex3db-interchangeabl…

      • group buy…

        • seconded. would love to get a group buy going for nex3's and 5's if the price is right.

        • motion carried. I'd go for a good nex3/5 deal easily.

        • "I’m hoping for 20% off on boxing day."
did this happen last year or before at the good guys? boxing day is not far away.

i think GF1 is another choice.

        • no i'm hoping for 20% because jb offered 15% off for friends and family. so i'm hoping for a big discount :)

    • I would like to get one too.

Ask and you shall Receive - After all these comments I spoke to my buyer and he has agreed to offer the NEX3DB, NEX5DB and NEX5DS all with a further $100 off our website price using Coupon Code: VPGDNEX35 - OzB Only :)

      • You guys don't show up on the Sony $100 cashback promo drop down list, does that Sony promo still apply to these cameras purchased from you?

        • +1

The Cashback offer definitely applies to the cameras purchased from our store (this includes retail and online) - You simply need to select 'Other' and you will have no problems :)

      • If you can knock off another $100 ill buy one :) boxing day sales are around the corner and i'm patient :D

        • Hi fattyman - Sorry but I've spoken to my buyer and I am unable to discount by a further $100. As we offer free shipping, Full Australian warranty, brand new stock and ready to ship our deal is already unbeatable. This deal will be valid up until Dec 24th :)

        • You just got beaten by 50 bux on the nex3…
          www.ozbargain.com.au/node/36404

      • Was kind of hoping for the NEX5KS, don't need the pancake lens, but its not included in the deal. Hmmm.

  • Cnet finds the camera overall quite good at its price.

Thanks heaps, Just bought one. My mum will be very happy this christmas. :)

  • just read and watched some stuff re this camera. its feature rich, well designed, let down by image/video quality i think.

gonna wait for the next gen gps enabled 1080p shooters.

  • Good Deal…

    Even better than
    http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/sony-cybershot-dsc-h…
once you add in shipping ($277 + $38 = $315) which probably doesn't even get you an extra battery…
and that's for an overseas model / delivery which I assume includes overseas warranty.

  • -1

Great deal but shame it's only in black. Would love any other colour than black!

  • I'd like to buy this camera to use on Thursday, can I get this price if I pick it up from the store in Fortitude Valley?

    • Hey Jean-Baptiste. If you placed your order as per normal online, in the comments section just write that you would like to pick up from our Business Center (This is directly above our FV Store) and then we can contact you when it arrives… If you ordered today (Before 3pm) we would have it ready for pick up tomorrow :)

      • Hi Maddie, if I purchased the camera today (Wednesday) by 3pm, could I pick it from the Business Centre tomorrow (Thursday) between 4 and 5pm? Or alternatively have it delivered to my workplace in Newmarket (postcode 4053) tomorrow?

        • Hi Jean-Baptiste. Unfortunately this would not be possible now as we need a few days to process these. As this is a hugely popular item we are still guaranteeing delivery before Christmas however I can not promise anything by tomorrow. As this is a special Online Price, typically our stores will not match however it is at the sales persons/managers discretion if they choose to match the $297 price. Alternatively it will be $347 and our Fortitude Valley store which may have stock available but to confirm that you will have to call them directly

  • I'm seriously thinking about this but I'm a little scared to make the jump based on reported image softness and video quality. Can anyone who has this camera tell me otherwise?
Are they bringing out a new model soon that might fix this? It will be primarily for baby pics so I love that it's fast, good in low light and has loads of features, just a little worried about the level of image quality.

    • This camera is excellent in low light. Set to auto or low-light mode, it produces a far more usable image than even a $1,500 micro 4/3 Lumix GH1.

  • I got impatient and purchased anyway. You guys are great and livechat was a huge help! Looking forward to the arrival

  • +1

How does this compare with the Canon s95? I want to buy a new camera with budget of around $500.

  • I just bought one 5mins ago
How long is shipping to Melbourne?

    • +2

Hi Kopite. We have had a massive amount of orders and our team are working through them as we speak. If you place your order by the end of the week we guarantee delivery before Christmas to Melbourne. I would probably say around Wednesday next week.

  • Hi Maddie

    Thanks for the reply!

As long as it's here before xmas then no worries!

  • Hi Maddie,

Is the Bonus Battery Pack Valued still included at the moment?

    • +1

Hi Madistinction - Yes the Bonus battery still comes with these units :)

  • I have problems purchasing this product and it is offered at $347 on the videopro website. Could someone be kind enough to guide me through as im a new to this

    • +1

Hi nikkikoo. If you jump on our website and use the live chat service the staff on there will be able to assist you. Alternatively you can call our 1300 VIDEOPRO number and be put through to one of our sales staff. Let me know if you have any more questions :)

  • Hi Guys, just a little reminder that all of our products are Brand new, Full Australian warranty and Free Shipping to all Mainland Australia.
