Planning First Trip to Phuket, Ideal Time to Go & Where to Get Suits from?

Hilo,

Planning a first trip to Phuket @ the Katathani Beach Resort.

Is the end of June a good time to go or maybe early July?
Any monsoon seasons to be aware of? ;/

Also where can one buy tailored suits from there, does anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you

  • Many suits, top quality, cheap cheap … shirts too, you come look, looking only.

Seriously though, it's been a while since I've been there (pre-tsunami) but my recollection is there are heaps of tailors in the downtown Patong region. That might be a bit too far out of your way. You may also be able to get a better deal elsewhere, but can't comment on that.

I picked up a few suits and for what you pay, they're not bad. Advice would be to be quite picky on fabric. Of the ones I got, one I remember was a bit dodgy from a fabric perspective, but otherwise all good. You need to keep a balanced mind on this and remember you're not buying something for $1,000 (or more). I paid about $100 - $150 per suit and got some good use out of them. At that price, if you get a couple of years out of them in regular use you are doing well.

    • Absolutely, expectations are set realistically and i'd be happy for it to even last me 1-2 years &
If Patongs relatively easy to travel to i'll visit their tailors and have a look

For a second there I thought you asked where to get sluts from….

Don't let that hold you back,
Got any recommendations on them to?

      • LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Lets be honest that's why he is really going

    • Phuket! Lets go!

  • Lots of places to get suits. Not sure how long some of them will last ;)

  • just came back from Phuket and spent some time looking at tailors in patong.

Would definitely recommend checking out Tripadvisor for the5 star rated places (Star Tailor, Instyle, magnifique, RK fashions). All these are in Patong and had all top showrooms.

However, with that is the pricing. Tailoring in Phuket not as cheap as say Hoi An, with suits costing ~300+ (dependent on material) and shirts costing around $50 (cotton / cotton mix). Can also get egyptian cotton for about 70-80aud. I didnt end up buying, but had a look at some of their stuff and it looked very good, much better than the $150suits in Hoi An.

Also recommend to bring AUD and swap for THB in Thailand. ATM fees (~$8aud per transaction) makes the Citibank not worthwhile. Also - if you need a ride from the airport, recommend PhuketSRC for airport transfers.

Feel free to PM for more info.

    • Great tips!

If Patongs easy to get to i'd check it out, but if there is some where to go to in Phuket and it is more $$ i'd still be okay with that.

Did you check out any tailors in Phuket?

      • Phuket is the island, Patong is the town/village where your resort is (or just outside of, by the look of it).

  • Any specific recommendations by anyone regarding a tailor in Phuket? &

    June/July okay time to go?

    • whatever you do, don't go to ones with spruikers!

      • For sure

  • I have had my suits done from these guys and was happy with what i got. This was 3 years ago. Service and quality was top notch. Not necessarily the cheapest but i was very happy with what i got.

    • Only one reviewer with over 5 reviews on their account lol but that's okay,
      I'll deffs suss them out

      • It has over 2k reviews with most as execellent. Not sure what you mean.

  • Is June July not monsoon weather?

Not in the mood for drowning

I find that the rainy season in Thailand is just a little inconvenient for tourists, but it is hell for locals trying to carry on a business in the open air. Usually it is just a solid down pour for a couple of hours. I don't know about your resort, but I do not like Patong or Pattaya. They are fun to visit for a night or 2 but the sex scene is really 'over-the-top' and a bit ugly. Patong now has their second language as one of the Chinese languages.
OP you have not specified how many days you are talking about. If you want to go somewhere in Thailand and you are cashed up, then I would recommend The Hilton Hua Hin. Also plenty of tailors in HH.

  • I went with my partner around mid November and stayed in Khao Lak - slightly off the main island but our experience was 10/10

We used this deal ( https://www.scoopon.com.au/deal/beach-villa-khao-lak-thailan… ) which is much better than it looks and the best hotel we saw in the area, also the price is on point. Go there!

p.s check the surcharge they've got for high season - weather in november when we went was perfect
