Pretty sure this is the cheapest this title has been.

EA's LIVE series has traditionally trailed the 2K NBA titles but with plenty miffed at 2K18 this title deserves a look-in - especially at the price of two coffees :)

Note: if you are a paid-up EA Access subscriber you will have access to this title with that subscription. In that event, only purchase if you're not planning to renew and want to keep this title.

EDIT: Looks like this sale has been extended another seven days. Enjoy if you're still on the fence or new to the post after 20/2.

      Basketball- $10
      Friends- Priceless

Conclusion- More economical to buy this

      • Nike Air Jordans to be one of the "cool kids"- ~$300

  • +9

Worth noting it's now on EA Access as well.

  • How many editions are there?

    • +9

      Just the one

      • +5

You answered your own question. Heh.

        • And probably upvoted himself also. LoL

  • +2

Worth it for $7 if I've never played a basketball game in my life? Accessible for newbies?

    • +6

Check out some user reviews and you'll get a feel for it - or watch some gameplay clips. General consensus seems to suggest you'll enjoy it - several users report that it's more fun to play than its competitor.

For $7 good opportunity to see if you like basketball games. Go for it.

      • +9

For $7 go for it mate. 2K18 (the competitor) has been crucified online by the greed from the developers. Lots of pay to win options in the game.

    • +1

It's pretty fun if you ignore graphical differences here and there. Live is still improving to get the position where they were, and with NBA2K taking advantage of people by abusing microtransactions (basically Basketball's version of Star War's Battlefront 2) i hope Live comes to the spotlight very soon to compete with 2K sports.

Unfortunately it wasn't available for PC because i would've bought it otherwise. I really hope they accommodate PC players, but it's been years since their last NBA related PC release, and with them trying to improve the Xbox Live experience they will probably never do it.

    • +1

I bought it for $16 a month or two back when it was on sale. While I enjoy watching NBA, don't really like playing it, so I'd consider myself a casual.
From that perspective and the $7 price point, it's good for what it is and definitely worth it. Playing on a One X, both the graphic fidelity and presentation overall are very good.

    • +1

Def worth for this price, had a mate over who never watched or played b ball and even he said it was fun.

  • Heard good things about Live 18 but been holding off from getting it. I think the hold off is finally over and plus I need a proper sports game for my Xbox One.

    • It's pretty good. I purchased it about 2 months ago for about $16. Worth it even that. Great graphics and decent audio. They have the "My Player" style of game mode a-la NBA2K. Definitely a worthy purchase @ $7.

  • +5

Just a reminder it's also on PS4 AU $13.95 or USD account for $4.49USD

  • Mod update title - free with EA access subscription

    • +4

I've added to the deal summary. Thanks.

  • +1

First EA NBA game for a good while that's actually been playable.
They still have a long way to catch 2k in terms of game play, but can't go to far wrong for $7.

    • +1

Which 2k year would the gameplay stack against.

      • I'm not the best to judge as I haven't played every year of 2k,but physics and control seemed like what I played on 2k16.
They're still trying to claw back from the debacle that was NBA Elite, and since then I think they've only put one out every couple of years lately.

EA are holding onto sports thanks to Fifa, NHL and the fact no-one else is bothering with NFL, but seems they became a little complacent with a couple of franchises.

      • I still play NBA 2K14, but that's on PC, and that year was the first year of their awful storyline mycareer thing going on. If you don't want any storylines, and if you're playing on a console (like PS3 or Xbox 360 or above, then might as well grab NBA 2K13.

        • +1

I just play off line black tops. Do they have something similar?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: They have offline blacktops.

  • +2

You can't go wrong with 7.49, thanks op, got one

  • +1

Would I be able to redeem this on PC via the Xbox app and play it on PC?

    • This can only be played on Xbox One, not PC.

  • Does this work for the One S or just the X?

    • +2

Any Xbox One - original, S or X.

      • Thanks!

  • For those on ps4, it's currently $13.95 until 22/2

  • How does this compare to NBA2K18?

    • +1

As a 2k fan, this is almost on par if not better at certain things, Live picked up their game whilst 2k seem to have gotten a little complacent.

King Kendrick in the background also helps!

  • Can't even buy it, bunch of problems, and now the site won't load haha wow

    • No issues with site using my internet connection.

      • reset browser and worked, purchased it. Next question is how do I refund it because I just realised it's not playable on PC :')

  • It's actually pretty good. Gameplay, as mentioned, is not on the same level of 2K, but it's more than playable. Exclusively playing the My Career section so far, and the change-up between My League and The Streets is a nice touch. Where 2K is riddled with micro-transactions, this is definitely the cleaner experience.

  • +1

Thank OP, bought it, bargain for the price, the game is actually pretty good.

  • +1

Just bought it. Thanks OP. First timer playing basketball game - hope it is good!

  • should I get this to play offline only (no Xbox Live gold) or pay a bit more to get PS4 version with online play (have PS Plus)? any thoughts on the online play?

    • Up to you mate. If you enjoy online and will maintain your ps4 plus sub you'll keep your options open by going ps4.

If you rarely see yourself doing that go for the cheaper price.

  • Almost at 100 upvotes!

Hope to see some of you courtside with Team OzBargain!

  • Anyone knows how often are the rosters getting refreshed?
I installed it last night and it still had Isaiah Thomas in Cleveland…
Or does it need to be done manually somehow?

    • I'm not sure it will update the roster, or even have feature for you to alter them manually. I don't 'think' the 2K games have had that either - although I must admit I've never tried.

That's one of the way these titles keep you wanting to trade up each year, to get the most up-to-date player lists as well.

I guess that will also mean half of the Cavs team is wrong now given all the recent trade movements!

      • I reckon the rosters do get refreshed. Cause there’s no Kevin Love in the Cavs - and he got sidelined for 6-8 weeks on 31 Jan.

        • Could be right. Or, maybe there are some players they don't get licenses to bring into the game?

        • @fookos: I thought of that, but there are NBA live 18 videos of KL on YouTube… guess I’ll have to wait and see, would be awesome if the rosters were getting updated every now and then…

        • @samojed: interesting!

I've installed/downloaded the game to my Xbox but haven't had much time with it yet.

        • +1

@fookos: played last night again and when I opened the game two roster updates got downloaded… so I’ve got the current Cavs lineup now

        • +1

@samojed: Excellent! I'm not sure the 2K series does that, so could be another plus for the LIVE series. Thanks for the note.

  • +1

I just saw a notification in my xbox that Microsoft just gave me a $7 credit for whatever reason ("Because of your recent activity, you have been randomly selected…") so got this game for 0.49c :P. Cheers, OP!

  • Don't forget, this game is one of the 'enhanced' titles which means it plays at native 4K for XBOX One X owners (sadly no HDR though). Just fired it up before and the graphics look great. The controls are more simplified than NBA 2K18 which is perfect for someone like me who prefers 'arcade' centric basketball games.

  • If you just want a casual basketball game to play (and not the latest rosters), you're better off picking up a new copy of NBA 2k16 for $4.00. It's a much better game still than the current Live series and is almost half the price.
