Get Office 365 for free

  • It's not a trial! Students and teachers are eligible for Office 365 for Education, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and now Microsoft Teams, plus additional classroom tools.
  • All you need to get started is to enter a valid school email address below.

Some Q&A :

What is Office 365 for Education?

  • Office 365 for Education is a collection of services that allows you to collaborate and share your schoolwork. It’s available for free to teachers who are currently working at an academic institution and to students who are currently attending an academic institution. The service includes Office Online (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote), unlimited OneDrive storage Tooltip about unlimited OneDrive storage, Yammer, and SharePoint sites. Some schools allow teachers and students to install the full Office applications on up to 5 PCs or Macs for free. If your school provides this additional benefit, you'll see the Install Office button on your Office 365 home page after you complete sign-up.

What are the eligibility requirements?

  • You must be a full-time or part-time faculty or staff member or student at an academic institution and:
  • Have a school-specific email address provided by the school (for example, contoso.edu) that can receive external email.
  • Be of legal age to sign up for an online offer individually.

How long can I use this plan?

  • You can use the plan as long as you are working at a qualified school. Your eligibility may be re-verified at any time. When your Office 365 for Education plan expires:
  • The Office applications enter a reduced-functionality mode, which means that you can view documents, but you cannot edit or create new documents.
  • Online services associated with the school email address—for example, Office Online and OneDrive—will no longer work.

and many other Q&A can be found on bottom of Microsoft page

Also You can get Office 365 free for your entire school - Office 365 A1

    • I can’t get it to work for a Griffith uni allumni. Anyone have any tips? I tried using my phone, tablet and my laptop, it just says authentication failed when I try to log into the Griffith portal it gets you to log into.

  • Do Tafe QLD students get the .edu email? can someone confirm how to get it please.

  • I got unlimited onedrive this way but it is really annoying that you cannot enable camera upload for onedrive for business account.

  • Not available for QUT alumnis. Checked my email account there and Office install is disabled.

  • Hope someone is in my same situation and can help. I teach at uni and also have a personal Office 365 Home (5 devices) account which is about to run out. With this specific deal, does anyone know if it's possible to use my existing account (so as to keep my OneDrive backup)? I realise the 5 device option will cease. I tried signing up for the 4 year $99 Office 365 deal for students and staff last week and I was actually able to use my existing account (personal email address) once I had proved my cred via my uni email but it was going to immediately wipe out my 5 device subscription (even though I have a few months left), so I cancelled. I can go with that option if necessary when my current subscription comes to an end but free is even nicer!

    Thanks for any help/advice.

No, this can only be used on your .edu email unfortunately

Your best option is to use your student ID in your user name for example Griffith uni is [email protected] to sign up for a new office 365 account instead of [email protected] or vice versa depending on what you signed up on initially.

  • If you manage a school, you can sign them up for G Suite at no cost here.

  • Let me see if I got it right.

Even-though I have a lifetime edu.au email from my university, I must not use this given that I am not a student anymore, right?

    That would be a pity.

    • I don't know about you. But I am lol. Finished uni about 7-8 years ago. Tempted to back all my photos at full res onto one drive as it doesn't reduce quality.

    • the difference between the legal terms of the license ( while student or teacher) vs morality ( i still have edu address and can make it work.

you will have the ozbargain windows10 oem vs retail police chasing you next …..

Or just download LibreOffice for free and continue using it for free for the rest of your life…

LibreOffice is a suite just like micro$oft except it is free and open-source, meaning it does not collect and send data ("telemetry")behind your back ;-)

just buy off ebay for less than $5, 5 devices and no expiry…

    • how?? I just searched and they seem to be at the $23++ mark?

  • Can it be used or is it linked to the account for Microsoft mobile apps as well?

  • Has anyone managed to sign up with UQ? I'm a current student but when I put in my @uq.edu.au address OR my @uqconnect.edu.au address its says that "Your IT department has turned off signup for Office 365 Education, but it looks like you already have access to some of the apps that come with Office 365 Education." (Which seems to be Forms, Outlook, Calendar, People, Tasks. And not Word, Excel etc)

Do you have webmail? Log into your UQ mail and click 'Office365' in the top left. After it loads you should have a page with a button that says "Install Office" or something like that.

      • Are you a UQ student? I log into my UQ email (either one), and there is no "Install Office"-type button.

        • No, I'm at QUT. You are looking in the top left, where the 9 dots are. To the right of that it should say "Office 365"; that is a link, what happens when you click on the text?

        • I don't have 9 dots in the top left, and nothing that says "Office 365". https://imgur.com/a/XuZvj

  • Shame TAFE NSW doesn't have the correct email address format for it to work :(

    • +1

I was able to without any issue.

Just go to the office sign up page: https://signup.microsoft.com/signup?sku=Education

and enter your email like: [email protected]

Follow the prompts, unlike many other organisations though your office 365 password will be seperate to your tafe password, the office password will also require you to change it every 6 months, you can make them the same but if you change one it wont change the other automatically.

To login to your office account after its created and you've confirmed the email, just go to office.com and click login on the top right corner. Use your tafe email and office 365 password.

  • My uni (Griffith) is turning off Office 365 for alumni on 20 December 2018. Anyone else?

  • Another "Your IT department has turned off signup for Office 365 Education" for son's school.
