Or do an actually useful martial art and do bjj

    • BJJ is a sport-based martial art like Shotokan is.

      • +2

All martial arts have something to offer, just some are more functional for the majority then others.
BJJ can be a sport but isn't just a sport. Entirely depends on the school and their teaching style and focus.

        • +1

Absolutely. I was just making the point that they are both sport-based and therefore share deficiencies (in terms of so-called "street effectiveness") in some way.

    • I'm gonna get negged aswell but yeh, BJJ is king!

    • +1

Is BJJ some kind of variation on the common BJ?

      • -1

BJJ is BJ with jaws, so steer clear.

        • Ok. Won't tell the wife then

  • Will this make me a Kong fu master?

    • You'll prob get kicked in the head couple times, just coz its so tempting :p

BJJ is better and more useful.

In UFC Karate is not up there. Wonderboy Thompon is one of the few that can do damage in it.

Not good in real world situations compared to other martial arts.

Try and rise above the style vs style stuff guys, it's not a good look for any martial artist. This is OzBargain and this deal is for Karate. A fairly weak deal as nearly all martial arts schools offer a couple free lessons but still free is free…

    • Agreed. If it's pure effectiveness and efficiency you're after, buy a gun, don't practice an art/sport.

    • +1

Agreed. It isn't really possible to say one style is better anyway, because all of them are good in some particular situations. For example, some styles are good for one-on-one situations, but are poor if there are multiple assailants. Other styles will train you for multiple assailants (in the higher levels), but might not be as good in one-on-one.

Famous martial artist Bruce Lee learned multiple styles, and chose between them depending on the situation.

  • hmmm would be better if this was kyokushin karate

  • the best martial art is the art of farting without farting

  • In the words of Bruce Lee "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."

  • OP, are you associated with the school? Maybr it's just me but the post sounds like you're associated with the MA school you're advertising.

If so, you should clearly marked your association.
