  • Roadside Assistance is like a Ponzi scheme where people who maintain and service their cars, subsidies those that don't…

    • +1

Faults can occur on any car regardless of maintenance…

And locking keys in the car or running over 1000 nails on the road and getting 4 flat tyres doesn't really have much to do with vehicle servicing.

    • More like any kind of insurance offer really (subsiding others but there just in case you need it). Thankfully they usually limit the free callouts per year so most people don't use this instead of regular servicing.

  • Don't mean to sound ignorant or anything but isn't $150 for roadside assist per year jus a tad expensive? I mean RACQ charges 60/70? Toyota charges like around 60 as well…

    • The $150 figure includes the joining fee of $55 which you only pay once…..

        …unless you join multiple times…

        • I prefer to renew but whatever floats some peoples boats :)

      • $95.60 a year for roadside is still pretty expensive… What does NRMA offer that RACQ doesn't?

        • NRMA service NSW and RACQ service QLD. So they "have" their territories. However if you are in another state you will usually get service through that particular states roadside assist company via whoever you're signed up with for free.

  • do you have to call Jason like the RACV? :)

    • +1
    • RACV really need to change their marketing. We feel like the other staff in the RACV ad and want to beat up Jason ;-) BTW wish RACV would match the offers from the other states car clubs.

  • I think in Sydney you NRMA roadside is the cheapest once you have paid the joining fee.
I would love to know if there was any other cheaper option. I thought RACV was only available in Victoria.

You might still be able to get a 6 month NRMA Classic membership for $50, & thus avoid the joining fee altogether. I'm not sure if this is still running or not, you may need to call them (try the number on the link).

This is a cheap way to join up if you think you might need the NRMA services over the summer (eg. if you are going away in your car for a holiday).

I joined up this way about 7 months back. I'm now on normal annual fee subscription. This was a cheap way to ease you in to being a member.

    • I called them and checked, they informed me that this offer has been expired.
