Update 17/12: Deal is over. VF has run out of stock. Congrats and Merry Christmas to those who scored! :)

<del>MOD: According to users on pg5, the deal has been reinstated.</del>

<del>Update: Deal is finished. Repayment is now back to $30. :( Good luck to those who have ordered, though!</del>

OK, per request from the other HTC Legend thread…

If you’re a member of one of the motoring clubs (NRMA, RACV, etc), you
might want to check out Vodafone. They currently have the HTC Legend for $0 repayment on their 12-month $29 cap.

Navigate to the link below:

http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-htc-legend.aspx?company…

Then select '12 month'.

By my calculation, your min cost over 12 months should be (after 10% discount and 3 months free access):

$29 * 10% off * 9 months = $234.9

(plus, possibly, $84 moneybackco cashback for those who managed)

Which is outstanding value for a pocketable Android 2.2 phone with such strong specs. And it comes with a cap with 200mb data!

Be warned, though, that Voda’s customer service (or the lack of it, really) is shocking! Have a look at discussions on whirlpool!

Received mine about 30mins ago and called to port my number from Optus. The guy was quite friendly, although when he was reciting the plan back to me he said 24 months, I corrected him and he confirmed it was 12 months.. Hopefully that was an honest mistake and not a cunning scheme to trick people into agreeing to a longer plan.

I'm still suprised that this deal worked out in the end, it is just too awesome :)

    • it may be a ploy as my guy doing the porting did the exact same thing when reciting the plan details.
      Sounds a bit fishy.

  • Mine is onboard with driver.

Just got to figure out how to unlock it now.
Also does contract start as soon as you activate it.

    • Picked mine up from the post office.
Used the IMEI number in the phone box and the vodaphone link provided to get the unlock code. Inserted my 3 sim but it didn't need unlocking. I was able to make a call straight away with my 3 sim.

  • Just recieved mine and got to auto-port my number across (because it was from three to vodafone).. no waiting in queue. Woo. Cheers OP.

  • Thanks OP, my handset just got delivered : )

I chose to port my number from Optus when placing the order. But now, i wish to get a new number from voda. Do you think i still get do so? Or i have to go ahead and port my Optus number across?

    • I filled out the porting information in the ordering process.. didnt seem to do anything. You still get a voda sim and from what i understand, if you just activate the sim and stick it in the phone it will be a new voda number. I had to call the 1300 number still to port the number.

I think, u definately forgot to give a+ to the deal :)

  • Where are you guys from who have received the phone? Any from Melbourne?

  • Just received my phone as well, had to sign for it. I'm in Melbourne.

  • Hey do u have to ring them to activate the simcard?

    • My new voda sim card didn't work. So I just used my existing 3 Sim. Had no intention of using the voda sim anyway - just wanted the phone.

  • just got mine in Adelaide ordered mine on the 16th

Just got my phone in SA.

also got a 2gb micro sd in the box

  • just received mine too :) thanks OP

Can someone who has not yet placed the battery in the phone please check if the battery is new? A new battery should be free of any shiny spots/scratches on the four metal terminals. Mine was definitely placed in the phone earlier because it clearly has the four tiny scratch marks that develop when it is installed in the phone. Also the battery did not have any cover of its own.

Does anyone know if Vodafone needs to install it in the phone to lock it?

    • +1

will do when I get mine

      • +1

Sorry, I wasn't home when I got mine and a family member already put the battery in.

Just a warning to everyone - I had to ring up to activate the sim card and confirm the billing details. The CSR tried to tell me that it would be $29 per month with a 10% discount, plus a handset repayment fee. I told him that I hadn't signed up for any handset repayment and that the confirmation email had indicated a $0. He put me on hold and spoke to the "web department" for some time about the order, and then came back and said the handset fee had been removed and it would only be charging me $26.10 per month.

Also asked about the 3 months free and was told these would only be applied after at least 4 months, not as the first 3 months (ie. the 5th, 6th and 7th months would be free). This sounded strange but he was adamant that it was the case and would be automatically applied by the billing system. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on that…

Sounds like it wouldn't hurt for others to call and confirm their plan.

    • Did they question if you had an auto club membership? I'm yet to formally apply to one and am wondering if anyone has had to quote their membership or not.

    • No, there was no question of the auto membership (though I am with RACV which I think qualifies for this anyway). All sorted out under the assumption that you have it if you used the affiliate link to order I suppose

    • As mentioned in my another reply, at the moment when I placed my order, in the T&C it said “3 months free access will be applied as a $29 credit to your first, second and third bills.”

So I think you can call them again to ask for the first 3 months be free.

just received mine this morning. I had to call VOdaFone to activate the SIM card. She did confirm with me the free handset and $26.10/month exactly the same as what says in the email.

    You ordered:

    HTC Legend - $0.00, $29 Vodafone Cap Contract - 12 Months - $26.10, Discount - 10%, 700MB Mobile Internet Classic pack 12 mth $4/mth (total min cost $48) 3 - $4.00 monthly

    3 months free access+

I have been advised thet the service will be available in the next 30 minutes. Still waiting for it now. It did not take me long to get in touch with their staff (only a couple of minutes). Happy with the deal. I'm in Perth by the way

    • just wondering WHY you had to call vodafone to activate? My sim package says its already activated?

    • edit: double post. please delete

    • Also from Perth…also got the sim issue…also called them up and very lucky that I was allowed to choose a number from three given…very very happy with the deal!

      • I didn't get given the option. The Indian call centre lady on the phone said she is about to give me a really good number, and as it turns out its a really $#!tty number…..

Not fussed though, stoked with the deal.

  • Received mine about 30 mins ago.

  • just got my 2 phones
    sweet

  • -5

    YAY received my two fones.

initially ordered 4 but voda refused two on the basis that I dont have a credit history with them. I tried to get two under my dads name but they refused the special price :(

  • Anyone know how long it takes to charge the battery?

  • Got mine today as well! Yay!

Hmmm, It's not exactly in my hands, What gives Voda?

    • i go the same message today, apparently they have got the wrong address, i end up having to call Aus Post to update, this will be another 48 hours

i suggest you call them to get your tracking number and check on the AAE website

    • Same problem here. Says delivered but no phone. Call centre is 40min wait… sigh. Can't they get anything right?

      • I might wait until tomorrow and if they don't deliver it by about 10am then I will call (hoping to cal at the time with least waiting and think 10am isn't a bad estimate)

They also screwed up transferring my number so I will definitely need to call.

  • Mine hasn't changed from "order being processed".
Anyone know what department at Vodaofne I should get into contact with? So I don't have to be on hold for hours and hours.

  • Thanks OP, received mine today

  • Efficient delivery! Just got my phone in Perth.

  • Does anyone know when the 2.2 Update is due?

Got my phone. DEAL OF THE YEAR FOR ME

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! Came at the right time for me too.

    <3

    • where are you situated?

EDIT: reason I asked was it was 7:30 when he posted (if you leave on the east side of aus) and I don't know if they still deliver at that time.

  • u know how to use the camera led as a torch Lol?

    • there should be an app somewhere (try looking for flashlight)

  • I am still waiting in Perth, since 8am the AAE sites says it's in transit and "onboard with courier"!
    Come on courier man!!!

    • just out of interest how did you get the AAE number?

      • call voda and ask for it

  • +1

Really annoyed with Aus Air express right now, their website said that it was with courier all day but he has failed to deliver it and now it is back at AAE warehouse at airport, useless pricks! I'm even in an inner suburb of melbourne.. I am an inpatient bugger!

  • impatient rather

    • +1

there is an edit button ;)

      • +1

        maybe he's an impatient inpatient

  • how is this phone? i am waiting for iphone 5 but my 3G is getting a little annoying with its slowness. hopefully this deal comes around again..

has it got good camera, apps etc?

  • Wow. looks like a christmas gift.
got a yellow card from AAE in my post box saying to collect it from post tomorrow. I was so impatient, I went to post, which was steps away from me and it was delivered to me.
Its a silver one with 2 GB samsung micro sd card. inserted vodafone sim, but it did not work.
I was very happy to read in the instructions on the box for unlocking. inserted optus sim and entered the unlock code from the site. Woooohooo, it worked.
Now its a unlocked HTC legend.
Thanks OP and all others for having such wonderful informations.
Now lets move on to Next things for it :)
    skin, covers etc…

    Edit: I am in sydney

  • By the way, with 3 monthes access free, does it mean 1st,2nd,3rd month for free, or 4th, 5th,6th month for free as another mate posted before? anybody knows?

    • Normally it should be 1,2,3. But I read the comments above that they said it for 5,6,7. Let me call them and verify it tomorrow.

      • This is from the T&C for the $49 cap… couldn't see any references to it on the $29 cap

3 months free access fees offer available until 15 December 2010 (Unless Extended) to new and approved customers who sign up to the Vodafone $49 Contract Cap with the BlackBerry&174; Torch 9800, BlackBerry&174; Bold 9700, HTC 7 Trophy, HTC Legend and BlackBerry&174; Pearl 9100 24 months, online via Vodafone.com.au. 3 months free access will be applied as a $49 credit to your 1st, 2nd and 3rd bills. Offer applies to access fees only. Any charges for additional or excluded services will still apply and will not be discounted. Not available with any other offer, not transferable and not redeemable for cash.

    • At the moment of placing the order, in the T&C it said "3 months free access will be applied as a $29 credit to your first, second and third bills."

  • I ordered one of these, Cheers to the poster.

Was it delivered by courier or Australia post? I only asking as I will not be available and would love to be able to pick it up at the post office.

    • if you are not at home ( or may be live in a unit), they deliver it to the nearest post.

  • Arrived today by courier. And loving it. Thanks again to Vodafone and yjm.

  • +1

My HTC Legend arrived today in Perth. Just in time for Christmas, perfect!

The old classic Nokia was held together with sticky tape and well overdue for replacing.

  • +1

i just got mine today, thanks for the post yjm, this is probably the 1st post for you but the best post of the year i reckon! plus judging by the replies here, i think all the stock goes to ozbargainers ey. and thanks ozbargain for the website that are useful and beneficial!

  • +1

Thank you yjm for the awesome deal

Also props to vodafone for allowing all these orders through

However, thumbs down to myvodafone, invalid mobile number? How is it invalid if I am making calls and able to use my 900mb

    • I tried registering with myvodafone through their website and got the same invalid mobile number problem. I thought that it might have something to do with me porting my number yesterday.

I gave them a call and they said that they're having technical issues with their myvodafone service due to system updates and that I should try to register after 2-3 days. Even though I'm now able to make calls/sms etc, apparently not all services are activated on the get go thanks to the problems they're having.

  • Thank you for this awesome-ness bargain! love it xoxo :)

wtf, I got this email from voda now:

Congratulations on scoring a great Vodafone deal

Thanks for choosing our $29 Cap with a 12 month commitment plus a new mobile phone. As part of your order you also receive:
    3 months free access+

The $29 Cap contains heaps of value including $180 credit each month to call any mobile or landline in Australia, Unlimited Vodafone to Vodafone and 3 standard voice calls all day, every day within Australia and 200MB of Mobile Data. The minimum monthly spend is $29 per month over 12 months adding up to a total cost of $313.20 over the life of the contract. If you leave us before the end of your contract you will be charged an Early Exit Fee (EEF) of the >minimum monthly spend ($29) multiplied by the months remaining.

It doesn't mention anything about the 10% discount, yet the min total cost includes it (but excludes the 3 months free). They really do suck at attention to detail.
Now I have to call Voda to straighten it out.

    • +2

I wouldn't bother calling them… you already should have a confirmation email with the 10% discount. If its not right when the bill comes in, then raise it with them.

    • +2

I called just called VF - on hold for 25 minutes then spoke to a lovely, helpful Indian guy. I had two problems:

      1) my phone was listed as 'delivered' even though I haven't received it yet
—— AAE didn't either bother trying to deliver it to my work but just said 'failed to deliver' and sent it straight on to the post office. This is kind of fail since my delivery address was my work, which has a receptionist there at all times.

      2) I got the same email you did.
—— I was told that it should be fine and that since I have the original emails, they promise I won't be charged for the 3 months. I know that this was just one CSR's promise, but it gives me hope.

Absolutely can't fault the guy I spoke to - he was genuinely helpful about it all. Only fail seems to be AAE and the people sending out the Vodafone emails.

      • i called, the csr tried to tell me the es- number was the aae tracking number, i got put through to vodafone direct, who gave me the correct tracking number.
even though my vodafone order says delivered, the aae tracking says on board with driver.

    • +1

Actually, your 10% discount is included in the total of $313.20. What is not shown in the total is 3 months free access but it has been clearly mentioned above. So you should be fine but if you want a specific clarification you can always call them. I must also mention here that my experience with an Indian CSR today was absolutely top class.

Edit: Just noticed that you are aware of your 10% discount in the total. I have received a very similar e-mail except that 10% discount is also mentioned in the e-mail near 3 months free. The total however is $313.20. I was also told that first three months will be free.

  • I got mine a little while ago. Had a 30 minute phonecall with voda and now am getting my number ported through. The guy (third transfer) recited my plan correctly including the 10% discount and 3 months free and now I need to wait 3 hours for the number to go through.

Not too dissatisfied with the service and do get signal where I live which is great.

  • -1

The customer service horror stories are true -

Mine was shipped yesterday but the phone still hasn't arrived - AAE usually cant find my house but needs a consignment number for me to change the address, which only vodaphone has. I've now spent around three hours in multiple calls trying to get this from them.

    • Are you talking with the direct sales team? They should be able to find it straight away for you…

      From my earlier post…
"If anyone calls 1300 300 404 and choose option 1 and is told they need to be transferred to another area, tell them you have a ES-W order number, not a VF order number.

For some reason, HTC phones have ES-W order numbers, and the team at 1300 300 404 option 1 have the system with which to look up the status.

The other team with the 40 minute wait deal with VF order numbers and don’t have the latest status of the ES-W orders… don’t get stuck in that queue! :)"

      • Oh wow, what a waste of the morning I should have read the thread + your comment.

I finally got transferred to them and they gave me the consignment number, it amazes me that no-one had transferred me earlier. Talking to AAE now hopefully to get my phone this afternoon.

"Our people are currently speaking to other customers at the moment and there is a 40 minute wait.."
"Our people are currently speaking to other customers at the moment and there is a 40 minute wait.."
"Our people are currently speaking to other customers at the moment and there is a 40 minute wait.."

  • I just got mine this morning. Stupid Air Express yesterday did not even bother to press the bell. They left a note at the front door for me to go to Post to collect.

  • can any of you login to MyVodafone for checking your account DEtails?

I have other VF postpaid simcard and I can register and login MyVodafone to see my account and plan but for this one I cant.

  • Did anyone else receive a $0 vodafone bill in their email inboxes?

I still haven't received my phone and I got a bill already!? they scamming my 3 months free and turning into 2 months?

    • +4

I got a bill too, for $0. I'm not paying it.

      • The person who negged this should be made to pay $0 to Radar as he obviously missed the pun intended.

        • +1

          i neutralised it

    • Our commitment to Vodafone is $26.10*9=$234.90 in any case and they have to provide us connection for 12 months from the date of activation.

Edit: Have they mentioned the billing period?

      • Your Vodafone Email Bill from 16-12-2010 to 16-12-2010

please don't treat one day as one month vodafone!

        • and I received the same bill just then again

        • The bill is probably for any outstanding amount on the day of contract rather than the monthly bill. How can the monthly billing period be before activation?

    • Your monthly cap is always paid 1 month in advance…. so one month is deducted now.

  • Grrr, so jealous of those who have received their phones. My orders been stuck on credit checks since the 16th. Called them 3 times and still no progress on my order.

    • Keep calling them. I managed to get my order accelerated after calling the AU reps.

  • i got mine one aswell this arvo, thx yjm for such a GREAT deal, wish all ppl who got this deal a merry christmas hohohoho~~~

  • Merry Christmas for everyone especially OP and VODAFONE, top present for xmas…just received one today.

  • +1

does anyone here have bad coverage? according to their coverage map im right in the middle

    optus = full bars
    telstra = full bars
vodaphone - cant even send messages inside, outside in backyard calls drop out

already made a 'case' with vodaphone, they have 72 hours to get back to me but after reading whirlpool sounds like shit service everywhere at the moment?

worst comes to worst might just have to pay the plan out and go back to optus..

    • quickly sell the phone and go back to optus?

    • Yeah. Vodafone wavers between 3 bars and no signal. I have found my calls regularly dropout. Have had no probs with Telstra or Optus. Think I'll be keeping the phone and ditching the Vodafone plan.

      • yeh well i am waiting for them to ring me back, from what ive read they might try to offer me money off of my bill as return for the crappy service, hopefully get the phone even cheaper

  • Need help—- I would like to be able to log into the account in Vodafone website…but it's telling me my number is invalide…anyone knows what I should do about it??

    Thanks!
