Im with foxtel, called up because of this deal. Said i wanted to cancle. Said i shouldent be paying $65 a month (which was aparently a special offer) when new customers get this.

They offered me my current package, included sports, entertainment (some stuff my othet half watches) and HD for $35 a month. And included 5 free on demand movies.

    • Isn't that only for like 3 months though? They bribed me with that when I tried cancelling few months ago.

      • 12 mnths

    • They offered me my current package, included sports, entertainment (some stuff my othet half watches) and HD for $35 a month.

      What's your current package?

      • No idea, aparently its an old one.

  • Managed to get it working in a browser but it gets stuck at one of the last steps "hold tight we are fetching your order".

Not sure if it's getting ozbargained or if they are trying to correct an error.

Update: Managed to get the order through, had been on the fence for this deal (with installation), this tipped me over the edge.

Haven't received the email confirmation yet though so fingers crossed it doesn't get cancelled at some other point before processing.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Entertainment package should be $nil. Mine came with my Telstra boradband. My iq3 is unplugged. Only plug it in when I subscribe to fox sports during rugby season

  • If I just want an IQ3 to use as a PVR / Set top box, can I sign up and cancel after 1 month and keep the box?

    • +1

You will need to return it or you will be charged an unrecovered equipment fee. That is $300.

    • +1

You can continue to use it to record fta channels for $10/month.

      • Are you saying the $39 does not include recording the shows and to do that you must pay $10 on top of the 39?

        • No

        • @wxyz234:
So what are the 10 dollars for?

        • @Laziofogna: using the pvr.

        • @wxyz234:
That was my initial question, to record we must pay extra?

        • @Laziofogna: no only if you wish to continue to use the box as a pvr without the sports package.

        • @wxyz234:
I can’t find anything about this on Foxtel website

        • +1

          @Laziofogna:

if you cancel your foxtel subscription, you can still pay $10 per month to keep the IQ3 box, otherwise you need to return the box to Foxtel and the end of your subscription or pay $300

          @wid:
          Thank you now it's clear.

  • Can the login for Foxtel app login be shared? As in watch at 2 locations same time?

    • +1

You can have 5 people watching on Foxtel App at the same time.

      • +1

Sure it's not install on five devices, but only two can watch at same time?

        From: https://www.foxtel.com.au/foxtel-app.html#faqs
"Can I use the Foxtel app on more than one device?

We know that there may be more than 1 device per household, so you can register 5 devices (3 devices for Foxtel Now customers), and have 2 of them running the Foxtel app at the same time (Foxtel Now devices count towards your device limit), linked to one Foxtel account. You have the choice of switching a device out for another up to 99 times each calendar month."

    • Foxtel app is pretty poor picture quality though. Fine for phones I guess.

      • Maybe for a 10 year old phone…

      • +1

        Phone is fine?

Sorry, got excited but wrong thread

  • +3

Tempting, but nahhh.. I have better things to spend $40 a month on..

    • I'm curious, like what?

      • +1

Literally anything that doesn't support Murdoch.

        • but you are on Ozbargains?

  • +2

As a Lin standing customer I got the previous $39 deal last month but not the iq3. So I used the chat again last night and after asking their manager they upgraded me to iq3 for free. I told them let's not waste time with me cancelling to then rejoin and get the deal with iq3.

  • I would prefer to pay $29 a month with no installation and a 12 month contact instead. Then Foxtel, you can take my money.

    • +1

I would prefer to pay $1 a month with no installation and no contract. But Foxtel, won't take my money. :(

    • Foxtel from Telstra does the sport package for $29 with 12 month contract, but no HD. As for no installation fee, might be able to be negotiated, or reduced for a "self install" (if you already have the ports etc.)

      https://www.telstra.com.au/tv-movies-music/foxtel-from-telst…

  • Does Foxtel charge a month in advanced or at the end of the billing cycle?

    • Just ordered and did read that they will charge within 4 weeks of installation.

      • Already taken cash out

        • Did you book for installation as early as possible?

Wondering if I book installation for when I get back from holidays in a month, if they'll start billing me already or next month.

        • @unco:

Yeah had install booked a couple days after signing up.

They actually just put a hold on the first month. But they didnt take it out till day after installation.

        • @wheresthebeef: Thanks that helps my question then! Cheers

  • Was Foxtel always this cheap?

  • Have just ordered. Only want for the rugby season then will disconnect. Not paying that $65/m shit

Foxtel has more ads than free to air these days. Non stop freaking ads!

    • +1

Except the only reason people are getting this is for the sport. That is generally 'siren to siren' ad free. As it's the only time I'll be watching it, happy about that.

      • Siren to siren. They pack the qtrs and half time full of them.

        • I only get it for motorsport, which is generally ad free, with the exception of Bathurst & Melbourne F1, which have ads every 5mins (feels like).

        • @wid: Isn't that because they use the Channel 10 feed for those 2?

        • @Porthos:

          Yeah it is

Still makes me feel dirty though

    • I remember when the idea of getting paid TV was no advertising.

  • Is the iQ3 worth the bother?
Just had a look here and WOW!

    https://www.productreview.com.au/p/foxtel-iq3.html

    • It's cancer.

    • I was one of those 1 star reviews ;).

      Bluetooth remote is terrible.
Sometimes it won't recognise your commands, and sometimes it will but there will be a 2-3 second delay. This causes a lot of frustration in navigating the tv guide.

Then randomly, the remote wont work at all (like its unsynced itself or something). Nothing but a hard reset of the STB will get you going again.
Search "foxtel remote pairing issue" through Google… lots of disgruntled people having trouble getting their remotes to work again.

If you have the option of going IQ2 I'd suggest that.
Not as polished, but everything works fast. Same channels, same quality video/audio.

The IQ3 is a dogs breakfast imo.
Their may be some people who've been lucky, but there's a lot more that have serious issues with it.

      • We have iQ2 at the moment.

Interesting seeing the last review though.
Did you get the software updated at all?

      • +1

I also hate my IQ3, as the IQ2 is a much easier to use interface. We also replaced our BTR remote with a IR one, as the BT was as laggy as hell.
Makes you wonder which sheltered workshop wrote the IQ3 interface, as it is a big FAIL

        • Yep, I requested an IR remote instead too!

Range isn't great, but response/accuracy is better. At least you know if it doesnt register the command straight away you just fire again!
BT?? Who knows when it decides to or not :(.

    • It's stable enough these days, but still slow and clunky.

  • if I get this package, do I continue to watch my FTA TV directly through my TV?

    • Nope, FTA through TV guide

      • Foxtel and FTA really!
It says in the guide…..channels 9,7,10,ABC,SBS
But all we get is ABC & SBS!

        • I've got all of them… ABCkids, ABC News, Viceland, GO etc.
          Maybe depends on location?

        • Perth

        • @cactus68: yeah, you're probably on satellite, which means you can only recieve abc and sbs.

        • -1

cactus68: IF you can get HFC NBN then you will be able to get FTA on the box. Check your area, if people have dishes on the roof, then you will get Satellite, which means no major FTA channels via the Foxtel box.

        • @smigglejiggle:

I thought with the new iQ3 box, you can just plug your TV antenna into the back of the iQ3 and it'll pick up all the FTA channels?

        • @smigglejiggle:

I had a dish, and could get ch7, 9, 10, SBS and ABC… Central Coast NSW.

          [edit] without a FTA antenna

        • @smigglejiggle:

Wrong.. IQ3 has FTA tuner, picks up all free to air channels

    • I have this package and i only watch FTA channels through my iq3 box. Much better than foxtel

  • +2

Heads up to anyone who signed up under the previous deal which was the same but with $100 installation cost. My install hadn’t occurred yet, so I called and told them I saw this deal so they waived my $100 fee.

  • FX channel will no longer be available as of 28th Feb!!!!
    WTF
I'm contemplating changing my plan to include the Drama pack.
So where do we watch Walking Dead.
Foxtel will prob put it on a diff pack so folks will have change the plan!

    • They're moving a bunch of FX shows to Showcase to go alongside the HBO content there, but it's a bit rubbish how they did World Movies a few weeks ago and now are getting rid of FX, Eurosport News and Nat Geo People in a few days with no discounts in sight for current subscribers for the lost content (and they try and pass off that World Movies moved to On Demand but most people I know with Foxtel don't have the IQ box so its basically holding the content hostage for a greater cost)

  • I was on the exact same plan ( - iQ3) and was paying $65/month. Called Foxtel and told them how unsatisfied I was paying $65 a month knowing the exact same deal was for $39/month. After a few munites going back and forth with them, they agreed to reduce my monthly payment to $39/month (-iQ3) for 12 months

  • Foxtel lost EPL and World Cup 2018 rights. Seems like a desperate measure to get lost customers.

  • Bought but install a month away. Annoying.

    • Interesting, I was able to select next week.

  • Foxtel is bleeding badly

    • +1

If they'd just changed their business model earlier and actually priced their product to be competitive, they wouldn't be in this position they're in now…. All I've ever wanted is the sports channel in HD.. I don't want anything else, even if they only charged $35 a month surely having a paying customer is better than no customer all at?

      • +1

5 years too late now to be competitive

  • +4

Existing customer, called and they would not budge. So cancelled. Felt ripped off at $65 while others could get the offer.

    • +1

There is no brand loyalty mate. I've cancelled and then reconnected to Foxtel so many times I've lost count.
If they looked after their existing customers instead of treating them worse, they'd have so many more subscribers.

Leave, and then re-sign up to the better plan.
When that contract finishes, call up to cancel again. 50/50 on whether someone you get will offer you a better or continued good deal, or you have to leave and then sign up again. That's their business model and it can't last.

    • +1

If you cancelled you should receive a call offering a reduced price. I did the same thing and was offered the $39.

      • Haven’t received a call. I look at this way. They can call and offer the $39. If not I am saving myself nearly $800 a year. Thanks Foxtel for helping me make this decision!

  • +3

We have Netflix now. So a big (profanity)-you to Foxtel who ripped us off for so long. Not any more.

    • unfortunately no live sport on Netflix.

  • +2

Just got it for the AFL, $10 a week for every game live and ad free is great.

I had to use incognito mode to get the free install.

  • +1

Have Netflix and nba league pass (both from deals here) that’s all I need

  • -1

Sweet deal just in time for the NRL season.

  • Can anyone offer an opinion of this deal vs Foxtel Now just for AFL viewing?

    • HD wise, I think Foxtel Now is 720p, and this deal 1080i?

  • When does it expire? Moving in 8 weeks :(

    • +2

You might be alright. OP has listed expiry as 28th March.
Then select a forward install date. Pick the latest one, and if not quite enough when you get close to the install date, call up to reschedule (work commitments?) to buy yourself a little more time.

  • Do they courier or post the self install kits?

    • Courier via Allied Express

      • Thanks

    • Don’t they send out a technician to set up and activate the service? I’d prefer a self install kit so don’t have to waste a day waiting for the technician.

      • Due to the previous owners of the house having had Foxtel, I just punched in my address and it gave me the option of choosing a technician to come put a new wall plug in or to send out a self-install kit and use what's already there.

        • Might just try and proceed with the order and see what happens. Thanks

  • Can you add the doco channels to this deal with free installation?

  • Must be a big uptake of this deal. Already booked install for Tuesday but am available Monday now. Tried to reschedule it for then, as it was available last night, but next available time is not for another 2 weeks.
