Indigo 5.01 Bike Light 1850lm $149 Roadie Mount, $159 MTB Mount (Free Shipping) from Indigo Lighting

31

I've used this light for two years and it's been perfect. It's super bright and sturdy, requiring a charge once or twice a week.

Just noticed it went on sale, down from $259 to $149 (+$10 for MTB mount). Also comes with an extra battery pack and a spare battery as part of the clearance. Unfortunately the $30 antiglare bezel is sold out, but I think it's reasonably easy to 3D print a hood.

You can also get a spare 26700 or 26650 battery on Aliexpress pretty cheaply.

These guys are from Adelaide and originally started on Kickstarter, but it seems like they're shutting up the shop now (social media pages are haven't been updated). I was actually looking forward to getting some of their smaller variants ("coming soon") for occasional use in early mornings.

    That's a lot of money for a bike light…

    • Agree. I got a fly12 (i think that is what it is called) cycling camera + light for less than that money.

      • Was it the 99bikes $30 boxing day special? I missed it so a bit disappointed. However those are only 400lm from memory - so in no way comparable to an 1850lm light (≥ 4x brighter).

    • It is expensive, and I paid for the original price years ago (you can revoke my Ozbargain licence).

You should see in person how bright it is though, it's comparable to a motorbike's headlight. You can get those Cree ones on eBay, some with comparable brightness, but I've had two of those and they've all died for various reasons. That's $60-80 wasted right there.

  • I got one of those Cree bike lights doing the rounds of OzBargain every once in a while for a couple of dollars and it seems to serve its purpose well.

I'm sure a light like this would be useful those that actually need a light for visibility (e.g. country roads and trails) but my flashing light already seems a bit too dazzling for incoming traffic when the batteries are fresh.

    • my flashing light already seems a bit too dazzling for incoming traffic when the batteries are fresh.

quite possibly illegal to use on the road then.

      • Yeah maybe. I think flashing bike lights are banned in Germany?

Even though the lights may flash too slowly to induce epilepsy I'm sure it can still cause alarm in some people (like the intense orange garbage lights that penetrate the length of the house at 6.30 am). Of course even without the flashing you'd have to dip your lights low enough to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic but angle them just high enough to be improve visibility. I haven't read into the laws as yet - maybe once daylight savings ends.

        • The problem are the cheap lights that flash from off to full power and have shitty optics.

Better lights are at a consistent brightness, say 50% brightness, then do a quick flash every few seconds ton get driver attention without blinding them.

  • Highly recommend the Xeccon Spear 900 for under $50 delivered.

  • Runtimes
    HI >1h
    MED >3h
    LOW >7h
    RACING HEART >3.5h
    DAY >6h
    MAX 0.5h

The battery is about 1.6x that in my Cateye 800, and it puts out about 2x the light, if we trust their numbers. So not really seeing how it can last a week

    • I use about 40 mins a day on the low setting, about 5 hours a week.

  • Bargain, Thanks OP.

My Roadie bike lights were playing up just this morning (again, $299 for this kit!) and a friend on the ride has this exact light. We discussed the light and I was reluctant to outlay $200+ when I had a lot of $30 OzB torch lights.

At this Price a steal. We ride where Kangaroos are a hazard and his light on Max power provides some level of comfort that you'd see them hoovering on the side of the road. Something my current light can't do. The torches can do it, but with run times of only an Hour this Indigo will outperform them easily.

  • They are a hard crowd to please at Ozbargain. This is a quality light at a good price and extra batteries thrown in.

    Thanks OP.
