Canon Powershot A495 - only $58 from Domayne

290

I just saw this on the Chronicle. This beats the Officeworks $77 Canon Powershot. Or you could probably get Officeworks to match and beat by 5% reducing the total price to $55.10.

Canon Powershot A495

2.5" LCD
3.3x optical zoom

  • Not bad. I had a Samsung ES15 a couple years ago, a $97 camera at the time, and it's amazing how decent these budget cameras can be considering the price.

  • Unfortunately no Domanye in WA :(

    • There's one at citywest, do they sell electrical?

  • All Domayne shops?

Edit: It appears in the online catalogue: http://www.domaynece.com.au/events-and-promotions/12-deals-f… and only these stores have electricals:

  • I was going to post clive peeters having these for $68.

  • Receives very good reviews in terms of image quality and those are based on its $US129 retail price. At $58 this is a genuine steal.

  • Can I get one from officeworks in Sydney ?

don't wait too long, officeworks has a habit of dropping their prices to match the discounted price so no more 5% extra off!

    • +3

If OW drop their price on this I wouldn't mind hearing about that, cos there is an OW near me, but Domayne is too far and surely will cost more me than $2.90 travel.

Got DSE to price match. Sales rep wanted to check Domayne site (didn't know of Ozbargain). Checked with store mgr - Heard her exclaim "Can we do this price ? It's below cost !". Mgr approved so I'm happy.

    • Well done! OzB FTW! Go for it OzBargainers. :)

  • Couldn't get priced matched at DSE Epping(Never Goin thr again) , Manager Guy said he called the Domyne (he magically got the number)and the price their is $77 (bulshit#) and they can only match $77 - he probably called officeworks.Any Way Got Priced matched for $55.10 at Officeworks Preston (2 more left). Officeworks epping No stock , Officeworks Bundoora Display only.

  • Went to Officeworks Auburn after hitting up BCF and they called Domayne in front of me, its $77 at Domayne and apparently this special finished on the 9th.

    • negative, the online catalogue says it runs till the 24th..

  • Sweet thanks mate, I'll go back to Officeworks and have another dig.
I couldn't find that link when I was browsing the website, I just saw it for $78 in the main catalogue and basically conceded the deal was over.

According to reviews and samples on Whirlpool, the image quality is better than that of the current Canon IXUS 130. :O

  • This takes 2 AA batteries. Any one got an idea how many shots you can take for 2 AA batteries?

I have a Samsung S750 7.2 mega pixels bought about 3 years back. I'm lucky to get 50 shots from 2 good quality AA batteries. If I review photos or inadvertently turn on video it will be flat even sooner. I found buying high capacity rechargeable AAs may give 100 shots but nothing like a Canon we have that has its own dedicated type Lithium battery.

I just bought an Aldi underwater camera for $79.79 which takes 2 AAA batteries. Those in the packet lasted 5 photos (could have been old stock). Then 2 pre-charged rechargables lasted about 10 shots. I've just put in 2 fully charged rechargables and hope it gets better. But I'm beginning to get wary of cameras that take AA or AAA.

    • Specs claim 150 shots for alkaline, 400 for NiMH. I have a Nikon Coolpix with long usage for batteries, so it doesn't have to be as bad as the cameras you experienced.

Seems that reviews say this is a great camera for its price class. It's so tempting but I console myself that they can only be cheaper and better when it's time to replace my Coolpix.

Ok, went to OfficeWorks and Dick Smith in Hornsby to match this deal, but they didnt have this model in a shop. Called Domayne North Ryde and they put me through to their Harvey Norman Electrical store (in a same building). They quickly agreed to match the deal since they were part of same company. Otherwise they sell it for $77. Anyways drove to North Ryde and walked away with one for $58. Thanks Ozbargain.

  • I bought one at DSE Woden for $58. Process took 20mins in DSE. Showed website advert for it and staff got Fyshwick Domayne ph no from the site. DSE say they have to ring Domayne to confirm stock is available. Manager has to approve first to the deal then later to process discount before payment. So got a price match in the end from DSE. Lucky for me some one at Domayne answered the phone for DSE staff. When I rang Domayne prior to setting off I got no answer. Domayne or Officeworks are a lot further for me to travel than DSE.

  • Bought one for $55.10 from OW at Punchbowl a few hours ago. They did not have it in the rack but the nice lady went to their storage area and brought one. Only after I got it in hand I showed them the printout of $58 price. They immediately checked on their comp and called Domayne who initially said it is priced at $98 (as I was listening to the conversation) but the OW lady kept probing them further saying their website shows it as $58. The person on the other side took few minutes to check with somebody and finally confirmed that it is $58 and in stock and that is how I got it without any fuss. They seem to have many more in stock but it may be better to call and check first.

Just bought one from Officeworks West Gosford with very easy price match. I had printed the page from the Domayne catalogue provided by greenpossum's link above and I don't think they even called to check stock.

I didn't choose OW to save the extra 5% but because of their easy attitude with returns and replacements.

Another bonus was the extended warranty being promoted by Officeworks. It is 20% of the sale price for small items, so I got the camera with a total of 3 years warranty for only $66. Whether you like extended warranties or not, I thought it was a good deal for an extra 2 years at only $11.

Many thanks to original poster! I was going to buy one of these for $95 from the post office for an Xmas present, which I thought was a good enough deal but after this thread I got price match and 5% extra from Officeworks Bondi Junction.

I showed the guy the catalogue on my iphone, he checked with his manager and sorted within minutes without hassle. I almost felt like I was stealing it at this price!

  • Thank you IJ I just got one for myself to replace my 7 year old 3MP Canon Powershot A70 (it's still working but). I have always been happy with Canon cameras and I only use the camera once or twice in a year when I go holidays. The A495 looks much more prettier than I expected and is light weight and compact. It looks much more expensive than $58 :)

Now I can't seem to find a memory card in the package so I guess I will need to buy one? Can someone please advise how many photos will a 2GB card hold? Or should I buy a 4GB? Thanks.

  • Anyone in Brisbane manage a pricematch anywhere? Don't really wanna have to trek down to the Gold Coast to pick one up..

    • UPDATE: DSE, Queen St, Brisbane had stock. Took a printout of the 12 days catalogue (greenpossum's link( and they matched it on the spot - $55.40
