finished the game, really recommend it. actually enjoyed it more than GTA

    • +1

Agreed! The whole police mission/triad mission/Jade statue thing was great, plus they drive on the left in Hong Kong 🙂 The martial arts fighting was awesome with an Xbox 360 controller, as was the racing. Well worth downloading the high res textures pack too.

In terms of story and character, this is much better than GTA, but in GTA there is no place you can't go, and you can take to the skies as well as drive tanks and shoot rockets.

Both are sandbox/freeroam but different in what's available to you.

Haven't played it for a while but SD had a much better looking graphics than GTA5 did.

      • Really? I much preferred the story in GTA. I feel like the story in Sleeping Dogs progressed too quickly. One minute you are a complete stranger to Winston Chu, 3 missions later he is saying that you are family. But I liked the environment of Sleeping Dogs better than GTA and the combat was pretty cool.

        • Yep, seems great for the first 8hrs then winds to a halt.

    • I'm another one that enjoyed this way more than GTA4 at the time. Better story and fantastic melee mechanics that left GTA4 for dead.

  • Good game, liked the fighting mechanics

  • +1

For those that haven't played this, just buy it. It's a no brainer.
I'd love to play the sequel to this, but with United Front shut down it looks like it will never happen :-(

  • +1

Great game.. I replayed it again with the definitive edition and was worth the replay value. lol

  • +1

Never actually seen any dogs in this game let alone sleeping ones

    • +8

      Dog Eyes?

    • It's on the meat stands in the markets.. :P

    • They're in the pork buns. ;)

  • +1

Great game! I felt really sad when the game was over because I had to return to the real world and attend to real life duties.

  • Fantastic game, hopefully there's a sequel to it because i definitely enjoyed it more than GTA.

But don't expect it to be as opened world as GTA, from memory I don't think you can even jump in this. But the story, HK vibe and combat I reckon is what really makes this game.

You know there's an upcoming movie this year on this game with Donnie Yen (Ip Man) as the star?

      • Really!?

I will definitely be keeping my eye out on it!

Hopefully it's great and drums up more interest in a sequel to this game

  • Great game. Well worth the purchase.

  • +2

Bought, thanks. Key was instantly delivered. Note that there is an extra payment fee when paying with PayPal for some reason. Credit card doesn't.

    • 14c to not give my credit card no to a website I don't know.

      I paid.

      • +1

Yep good point.Thought of that afterwards and kind of regret it. My ozbargain urge was too overwhelming.

    A man who…

  • 8/10 - would eat steamed buns again

  • +3

    I rate it 5/7 because it's a perfect game.

  • Loved this game on the PS3, they need to make a sequel

    • Shame the developers are now defunct

      • yeah i actually went and looked it up after i made my comment. hadnt thought about the game in a long time but i actually enjoyed it a lot more than GTA. the whole Hong Kong triad world was really interesting especially since i loved the young and dangerous movies from the late 90's.

  • +1

im sad, there is no more sleeping dogs 2

    • If the movie does well (whenever that may be), then a sequel might be picked up. Who knows?

  • I saw I have the base game + HD texture pack in my Steam library and apparently played it for 2 hours in 2013 that I can't remember.

Should I get this for the DLC? Or should I play through the game first and then decide?

    • +1

DLC is pretty average. You lose all your weapons and martial arts moves from memory, but now a cop again.. there's more missions though not as good as the original.

  • I have this on XB1. Sadly, I'm still stuck at the fight with Ming.

  • $4.78? The site says its A$12.49. Did it change or am I missing something?

    • +1

      AUD $6.38 now.

    • For me its coming up as out of stock but another one available for $6.38

      • I'm getting this too…

        • Its $12.60 for definitive edition currently for me now. Why is the price fluctuating for everyone?

        • @kflwasjkl: re-log in / reload / enter through main page - just get that bargain!

        • @TheMostHated:

          It's $12 now.

        • +1

          @Circly:

Mine showed up as $12 but i opened the link about 6 times and I got it for $5.42. Bit weird but whatever

        • @Circly: Try harder- your a professional!

    • $5.04 for me, in stock.

But what's with the phone verification code needed to be able to pay with PayPal?!

  • Can't go wrong with this 5 buck game. Well spend.

  • Have it in Ps3. Is the pc version worth buying it again?

  • Awesome game, highly recommended

  • +2

G2A has it cheaper $4.73 aud (incl. pay-pal/credit card fee)

    • Goes over $8 when you check out.

      • +2

Remove the G2A shield when checking out.

        • Got it. Cheers!

    • Because of the rave reviews including here, I got it from G2A for $4.75 - 2.8% cashrewards = $4.63

  • Currently showing A$7.89

  • +1

Main game is an amazing single player experience. The add-ons were a bit meh.

GTA V came out years later, but even accounting for that, this is still more than worth playing through after its advent.

Very solid, mostly serious story and tight fighting mechanics.

  • it's like GTA, but with kung fu instead of guns, and a better story :P

  • +2

Word of caution for others considering purchasing the game through Instant Gaming.

Paying with PayPal, I had to give my mobile number for verification purposes. After purchasing the game through PayPal I then received an email from IG requiring photo ID before they would release the game to me.

I'll be requesting a refund as I am not comfortable giving out this amount of personal information. My fault for not reading the T&C's.

  • I grew up in North Point, but can't recognise anything in the game's North Point. Regardless it's been a fun game so far.

  • +2

Have to whole heartedly recommend this.
The setting of Hong Kong made such an impression, the lights, people and places draw you in and you get really immersed, driving around with local tunes (soundtrack so diverse, downloaded and listen regularly.)

So good that it inspired me to visit Hong Kong, a holiday and experience of a lifetime. For that I am eternal greatful for the gift the fame has given me.
Try it yourself, it's a must.
