eBay Purchase History - Scam Alert

Hi

I noticed that my ebay purchase history showed an item I had not purchased.

On closer inspection I uncovered that tI did make a purchases from this serller (shopping-express-clearance) on this date, but its photos and discription did not match.

I reported the transaction to ebay whom (after 5 call transfers where they said it was impossible) were finally able to explain what had occurred. The seller had a multi quantity listed item and they replaced both the photos and the description with an unrelated product after I had purchased the product (item 261002833180)

Ebay say that there system is working as designed and nothing wrong has occurred

I have suspected that some product descriptions have changed in the past when I have gone to claim against them - ordering listings with 10x quantity in the description but only recieving 5x and other minor discrepancies

Buyers I suggest you take photos of what you have purchased as this is open for abuse

Regards
Markus

The dispute team can see the description and photos at time of purchase, nothing to worry about.

    • No the dispute team told me what i was reporting was impossible - I had to insist that they esculate my call further

      • Were you making a not as described or not received claim? If not then you weren't talking to the disputes team.

    TL;DR
who cares, did you get what you ordered?

    • Yes and I alao suspect I have been scamed in the past. this is proof that it is possible

        ?

        Huh?
If you got what you ordered then how have you been 'scammed'?

You can click on what YOU purchased even if the description has changed.

Yeah, dunno what @OP is smoking.

Clicking on the item description from your purchase history has always taken you to a snapshot of the listing as at when you purchased it.

It even says it up the top.

It can be a little confusing that the a bought item can change to a different product, but it is nothing to worry about. This occurred to me with an earlier purchase from Shopping Express. There are indicators that will show you your bought item:
    * An "ORDER CONFIRMED" message sent to your email address shows the original item you bought.
    * The "Order details" page in My Ebay lists the original item you bought. Find the item in your purchase history and click "View order details". This option could be buried in the "More actions" menu.
    * The Ebay item listing displays a message under the "You bought this item" message, saying: "The listing below has been updated by the seller, but you can see the item you purchased." which you can click to view the previous listing (within 90 days of placing the order). Also next to "You bought this item" there may be a link to view your order details.

  • They probably amended an old listing and changed it to a new product so the sales history looks better (and helps improve their search rankings). As long as you get what it says you're buying at the time then there's no scam, they're just playing the system.

  • I noticed the same thing on a recent purchase…

  • They do plenty of other odd things which I can accept is buyer beware but I still think its rotten and misleading for an auction site to change listing descriptions and photos.

Eg If you've added something into your cart (without paying for it immediately and let it age for some days) and the vendor later reduces the price of their listing by adding a promotional discount, you must empty your cart and re-add it again, otherwise you will be charged the higher price. However if they raise the price you incur the price rise immediately.
