I Want to Deliver 1000 Red Roses to My Wife - Help

Hi all

I want to deliver ALOT of red roses for my wifes birthday in 2 weeks

Anyone know where or how I can organise this in Melbourne? (Melton 3338 to be exact)

And of course does anyone know how I can do this in a cost effective way?

Thanks.

  • Does she even like roses?

Also, most roses are actually imported and not environmentally responsible(if you or your wife care about such things).

I am not sure what's wrong with people here. He didn't say "I want to deliver 1000 roses to my wife, judge me". He is genuinely asking for suggestions, if you have none, move along.

    • What does the 'comment' section heading mean?

    • It's quite hilarious seeing the jealousy and bitterness in some of these comments.

      • It could be worse, like indirect, superiority complexed passive aggressive condescension from below. Now, that would be guffaw inducing.

        • Like I said. Hilarious

        • @Cusack:
It's inarticulate TBH. If two passive aggressives argue with indirection, it becomes a hilarious-2018 disappoinment Trossky Nicholson stalemate. More realistically, you're just reading straight from your "It's OK" passive aggressive monthly bookmark. There was no hilarity.

        • @Frugal Rock: I'm loving this

        • @Cusack:
Possibly, but reading your own correct emotions isn't your strong point. It's appropriate and telling that Ronald McDonald is your quote source.

  • Ops want to sing this song: https://youtu.be/MhPfasdzGXk

  • You know, people spend money in different ways. Something I don't understand is why everyone has to be so judgemental about other people's spending habits. I'm pretty frugal, but if other people love spending their own money, then that's fine by me.

People drive expensive cars, buy designer clothes, fly first class…etc. - there's nothing wrong with any of that and there's nothing wrong with roses. Sometimes we should jump off our high horse, we can all make do with less and we can all listen to the words we preach ourselves. Sure, it's easy to jump behind a keyboard and tell this guy to donate to charity or give his money away. Next time, when you are choosing to spend money on something you like, you should heed that advice.

    $1,080 for 1000 red roses, delivery extra - https://www.koch.com.au/buy/fresh-rose-imported-premium-bunc…

+1 for actually answering him lol

Flowers that can give you a prick delivered by koch

    • +2

      I think you mean $10,800

  • I'm sure she would be happy with 12 and a nice dinner, stop with the silly grand gestures

  • To be honest, a woman would prefer a brand name bag. Fendi, Prada, Louis Vuitton type deal. Take her shopping. Dont buy a thousand roses that will die by wednesday next week, or if you really want to burn money, do both, atleast something will last.

    • +3

      Don't speak for them all.
Mine wouldn't want roses or a bag or jewellery or shoes or dresses.
All useless when you are living on a boat and they did nothing for her when living on land, especially overpriced designer crap.
For her the one thing she wants is more double walled glasses at a reasonable price.

      • Neither would my wife. Im only speaking on behalf of the ones that would want a thousand roses (-_-). A designer bag is probably more practical.

Melbourne Flower Market. However to be honest, I think this is a wasteful idea. I would go berserk at my husband if he did what you are planning, no matter how thoughtful.

    • Wouldn't you secretly be happy about it though?

      • No, not really. After being married for so long we have everything that we need. What matters most is time together. After the flowers have wilted it would be me having to load all the dead flowers into the council garden waste bin.

        • +1

Thanks for the tip. If ever I'm crazy enough to do that for my SO, I'll be sure to include an air-tasker to remove the flowers, even before they wither away.

        • Getting an air tasker to do a clean up job is thoughtful.

        • Yep.. I would be so much more excited over something like a getaway together for the weekend with a nice dinner etc.. which would likely cost much less than 1000 roses

    • It's his money, not yours.

Trolling. Plus your a Melton bogan so we know you cannot afford it.

    • 2 negs by Melton bogans!

  • How about fewer flowers, but handmade ?

I made an origami bouquet of roses for my GF once. I have no origami skills whatsoever and had to stay up well into the morning to get it done. It was worth it.

Easy to buy stuff but I feel it would be more meaningful to make something.

This is an epic post! i can't stop laughing reading some comments! Thanks guys! the guy has money to burn but he wants a cost effective way to burn it!

  • Maybe have a look on alibaba and see if you can get it sent by dhl.

    • +2

If dhl can't deliver chicken to kfc, what hope is there for flowers!

  • Don't

  • Wouldn't she be more impressed if you donated that money to charity instead of wasting it?

    If not, dump her!

    • I agree. A dozen roses, and a tax deductible receipt in her name to a decent charity with the balance.

  • buy 1000 CBA shares instead

  • If he wants to buy this and think it'll make him happy why not? Sure other people have alot more expensive hobbies. Some people spend 100k on a car when a camry is fine, some people spend $500 on rockpool when they can get maccas, some people spend 20k on a holiday when they can just go to melbourne. Some people value certain things more than others. No need to flame him about it.

  • +8

If you're really going to do this just buy 800 and tell her it is 1000, she's never going to count them and you can save 20 percent.

    Raid a graveyard…

  • Spending money on 1000 roses kinda contradicts the point just to make use of that free OzB condom.

    Take your wife to india
and get the 1k roses for https://www.floweraura.com/sendflowers/1000roses aud $365

    or
    get this for https://www.nourishedlife.com.au/skincare-moisturiser/36268/…
    $27

Real 1000 roses bunch will cost you
    https://www.rosesonly.com.au/floral/lucky-99-roses-bouquet-r…
700x10(Maybe you will get the discount for the lot lol)

  • Consider the practically of this. Not just the delivery but where to put them all. Could be a huge BACK-FIRE!

  • How many troll posts do we have to have on here these days? First the cake and now these flowers. This guy hasn't even commented on the crypto thread on ozbargain so likely a troll. Ozbargain is the Australian Reddit.

  • What will you do with all the roses afterwards? seems like such an unnecessary hassle.

  • Buy her some diamonds with that $5k.

Why are there so many Salim Mehajer's these days? lol

  • Someone's feeling really guilty about something…

    WHIPPPPPPPEEEDDDDDDD

    Another boasting thread.

    Yawn.

(‘Crypto has been kind to me’….. poq).

      Another jealousy comment.

      Yawn.

      • -2

An admission that it is boasting.

  • OP; I’m not from your area but I imagined yiouve wholesalers around. Give them a call ASAP and see what sort of deal they can do.

Roses don’t grow on trees - suggest you try and give them as much notice as you can.

I’m keen to see what they look like and her response! Please post result!

    Good luck.

  • No sure if anybody has mentioned this yet. Go to your local florist and order 1000 roses. Offer to pay 30% of actual price per rose given you are ordering in bulk. Haggle to most 50% if need be. Offer to promote their store on Valentine's Day on Ozbargain with a 50% discount on jacked up prices. Done.

  • visit the melbourne flower markets way ahead of the intended purchase date (there's one in sydney, i assume the same of melbourne). Talk to the largest sellers, bounce between them, find a deal. its a decent wholesale quantity you should be able to do better than 1000 bucks.

  • Buy her a nice watch instead.

  • Should this thread be closed? There's some valid suggestions, but it's mostly just criticism toward the OP. Bit of a negative vibe here.

People express themselves in different ways, one person's romantic gesture will be completely different to another person. There is no wrong way. Yes some mess and expense, but at least they're trying to think of how to make someone else happy unlike most of the people on this thread. I don't think the OP would be feeling very happy after reading a lot of these comments, eg. criticising the suburb they live in, etc etc

    • Maybe you can buy the OP 1000 white lilies of condolence. Nice faux question BTW.

  • It is reasonable to suppose those roses will be in a bin by Easter. A nice watch can be cheaper and may become a family heirloom.

  • Do what I did;

Buy her a bunch of roses and wine> make the bed with some of the petals> Clean the house & tidy> make great dinner and desert > Invite her over> And impress her with your ding dong and physique that night > done ✅ > present the roses next morning> profit?

    😅👍

  • Costco have beautiful roses and are quite reasonably priced, you will never find that many but seriously.. 1000 is overkill and would just become an annoyance in terms of mess and having to throw them out once they start dying. Buy her a couple of bunches and buy her something else nice instead.

  • U came at ozbargain site, my advice start going around neighbourhood and collecting roses, might take while so take your kids with u. That's call bargain.

I cant help with the roses, but i can perhaps some other sort of help based off what you want to do:

    https://www.yourhealthinmind.org/find-a-psychiatrist

The roses will die 3/4 days, personal self-improvement lasts for a lifetime :)

    • good one :)

  • 1000 roses is a bit excessive. Have you try looking into "eternity roses"? Fraction of the price and you get a forever lasting rose!

This is retarded, you live in a shithole like Melton but want to waste a huge sum of money on roses? Save your money and buy a house in a better place. (Whatever the map says, Melton is not in Melbourne, there is clear country for miles between the last suburb of Melbourne and Melton).

    • true :)

  • this is the most hilarious thread i've come across in a long time, next to that AMG show off.
All Salim Mehajar type. Im gonna remember this chingy fella for a long time.:)

  • Are you trying to be like Apu from The Simpsons?

He made all the other men look pathetic so think before you put your plan into action

  • I know you must have your heart set on roses but they are very short lived. Have you considered orchids, Majestic Orchids delivers to Victoria, their arrangements are amazing. Colours are so vivid and tropical.

For wholesale flowers in Melbourne try https://www.tesselaarflowers.com.au/melbourne/wholesale-flow… they should be able to hook you up with someone to arrange them. Are you thinking of numerous large arrangements?

  • This has gone way offtopic. Thread closed.
