Hi Everyone,

The HDium Duo is basically a 1080p full HD media player with dual tuners/PVR capabilities.
The Hdium Duo runs on new realtek 1283DD+ chipset capable of reproducing 1080p content such as MKV, BD iso (simplified menu), m2ts. It also has networking capabilities as well as recording two shows simultaneously.

As in the previous deal we are offering a 14 day full refund policy (excludes shipping costs).
Orders placed before 1500WST (1800eastern time) will be shipped today.

I will make this post shorter than last time. For a long discussion on the previous deal where the features of the product are presented at length look have a look at:

    $260 in PC User review…

    • Just to clarify. PCUSER gives the price of the non wireless version. The wireless version which is the one offered here goes for 289.9+ shipping.

  • Can this player stream internet radio (mms and http) through a playlist like m3u or pls or does it need to have special software installed on another pc like most other media players?

What length HDMI cable is included?

    • 1) Internet radio: not supported as far I know. I will need to check with the engineer.
      2) The HDMI cable included is a 2Metre HDMI 1.4 cable.

  • hello i got couple of questions

1- if i connect my satellite receiver via RCA imput, will I be able to record to hard drive? then play that video?
2- also can I record directly to my pc or a NAS?
3- also will it run any subtitle files?
4- is paypal a payment option?
5- is the harddrive internal? or external?
    Thanks

    • 1) Yes, you would. I do some video achieving from my foxtel IQ2 with the HDium.
      2) Not by default but there are customers that have done. It needs some trickery.
      3) I would say most sub formats are covered: SRT Subrip, SMI sami.SUB MicroDVD,SSA Sub Station Alpha,IDX+SUB
      4) Absolutely
      5) There is a hot swappable internal 3.5" HDD bay. It is effortless to add and remove a drive. External HDDs can also be installed as the player has 2XUSB and an external USB connector on the back.

      • 2- did they tell you how its done? or is there a guide for it?

6- if I buy the usb DVD rom, that doesnt write to DVD's? does it?

        • 2) Would need to find it. It involves sending some commands to the hdium via telnet.
          6) Not supported.

  • +1

    Some more questions:

    1. Does the price include shipping and a HDD?
    2. Does it play AOB files (they are basically DVD-Audio files)?
      Thanks
    • 1) 234.9 is the total price including delivery. HDD is not included. We provide the option of purchasing 1TB and 2TB drives or alliteratively you could bring your own drive. We use WD EARS caviar green drives.
      2) I am pretty confident that is not supported. Haven't seen a media player/pvr that does.

  • only down side of this prodect is it only has 1 RCA input, no component or HDMI input,

    Just HDMI and RCA output

    • No media player/DVR includes component or HDMI in unfortunately. It comes down to licensing. Movie studios, paytv operators etc are dead against a customer being able to easily rip/backup recorded content in all its glory. Unfortunate because this does not deter piracy much (we have the net) but it prevents legitimate use.

      • fair enough, however an extra RCA input in fornt it would have been perfect, for hurry one time use, eg, using my personal video camera or record from it etc…

        thanks

        • The player has composite in for recording of VHS, pay tv boxes and other analogue sources. I use the player with foxtel IQ achieving. What this player and others don't have is the better quality HDMI and component in due licensing restrictions.

  • Are there any Jukeboxes that work with this player? eg: YAMJ or Oversight

    • No, although the engineers are actually working on a jukebox/indexing system. We expect a BETA fw supporting it within weeks.

  • I picked up one the last time it was on ozbargin for sale.

Pretty happy with it, does everything its supposed to. For the price its great, i am sure there might be better dual tuner PVR out there but at this price point this is a bargain.

    • Thanks for sharing your feedback. Glad that you are happy with the HDium.

  • last question if i have a mkv file stored on my pc can i play it on hdium? or i have to transfere it to the meida player first and play it?

thanks alot for the promet replays

    • You can stream movies, music including mkv files from a computer to the HDium as the HDium has a Samba, NFS and UPNP client. I watch my movies consisting mainly of 720p MKV files from a PC server located on another room.

  • This media player is a clone of the Himedia HD500B

However it doesn't have frequent localised firmware updates which are available from the Himedia Australia website for their product. These firmware updates are essential since both products have some bugs still.

Unfortunately the Hdium cannot run all of the Himedia Australia firmware, and HDCity refuses to reveal how to make their Hdium compatible with the HD500B. It should be possible as they appear to be the same boxes electrically.

Until it can also be run as a HD500B, the Hdium is a very risky buy, with no ongoing product development or firmware support!!

  • Can you extend the deal again?
