Naked Wines - Anybody Comment on Quality and Value Vs Cleanskins, Dan Murphy's?

Hi All,

I'm not much of a wine drinker, but have been buying from Naked Wines for a few months now - my partner is into wine, and I always have something to bring to dinner parties. Stuff tastes good to me, but then again, I'm not a wine person.

Just wondering what others think of the range in terms of quality and value - surely others have tried the wine?

I see other threads here and on whirlpool, but with little discussion of the actual quality and value (more people discussing the business model and practices).

Not affiliated - looking for others valued input and opinions, thanks.

What does your partner think? Given they're into wine.

Not posting here to find out what she thinks, cmon man. Anything to contribute?

So you value the opinions of strangers more than your partner?

If you like it, and they like it. What does it matter what a bunch of tight arses think?

        • Didn't say that, was just asking for opinions. Nothing better to do on a Sunday?

@ozbjunkie: Ozbjunkie already knows his girlfriend has terrible taste……..

          @ozbjunkie:

          It was a simple question.

          So salty.

        • @Drew22:

Thought my one was a simple question - guess it wasn't for you.

        • @altomic:

Terrible taste and no taste at all are different things, right?

        • @ozbjunkie:

Haven't your parents taught you any manners?
          Don't answer a question with a question.

          Rude.

Naked wines sell mostly cheap homemade wines. I have had a few cases, the quality is hit and miss, I had to pour a couple of bottles in the sink. But then I also had a couple of exceptional quality. If you buy their ~$43 per case, expect exactly that kind of quality. Their better ones are $9 per bottle and up and for that price you can find good wines at your local bottlos without the hustle of delivery. Their business practice is dodgy, they try to sign you up for ongoing monthly instalments. They use cheap delivery courier service that are creatures from nightmares.

    • Pretty transparent about ongoing charges, and you can cancel with refunds at any time.

No trouble with the couriers here, but thanks for the info.

  • "Stuff tastes good to me"
That is a pretty good endorsement.
Given they routinely sell under $10 a bottle, you probably need to try cask wine if you are looking for cheaper.

If you are looking to impress others, naked wines are unlikely to gain you much cachet.
Impressing people with wine involves spending a lot of money, or doing a lot of research/effort. If there was a short cut to impressive wines, the seller would just raise the price.

    • Fair enough. I dont find myself able to pick between a 20-40 dollar bottle by taste.

I feel like i can tell if a wine is under 10 bucks.

  • A couple of my bottles were off, only bought them cause i had a Discount card.
I don’t really like this sort of wine sales, I prefer just to buy from shop

    • Get a refund - havent done it myself, but they state money back if you're not satisfied.

  • I was with them for a while - I found that some wines were great, some were very ordinary, and I wasn't playing in the cheap range. Personally, I've had much better success with just browsing the shelves at 1st Choice Liquor etc - I get (overall) much better quality, same quantity, for the same spend.

I don't really mind their business model - but it is a bit shifty and they're not completely clear on it when you do sign up.

The devotees/hail corporate type of followers they get (and encourage!) are far too over the top for me - I just want to drink good wine, and don't really care too much about the personal story of how each winemaker used to be a boilermaker until they grew a hipster beard and decided they liked wine.

    • Thanks - yeah i do think the savings are overstated.

      • More than that, I'd suggest that there are no savings to be had.
