Have you got enough spare time to get value from this purchase?
That question stops me from dropping money very frequently.

    • I work the standard 8-5
      Getting married in 4 weeks
So I'm fairly balanced I guess

        Getting married in 4 weeks

Ahhhh, panic purchase to assert your independence. Good luck.

      • I wonder if you're getting negged cause your getting married in 4 weeks XD.

I would've figured newly wed + prep for wedding = no spare time.

I didn't beg you by the way.

        • +1

yea i am not sure either - i guess i was trying to convey we will be travelling after the wedding so might be useful to use the drone then. and from what family has told me we will be Mr. and Mrs. Smith in no time so ill need the drone to keep me occupied.

        • @CI: Do make sure that there's a drone at the actual wedding

          :-)

I will keep bikies on stand by. Give me a ring if you need help.

      Thanks bro

    • lol I came here to make a comment like this, but when I saw it was a drone I got curious:)

  • +5

    Will you actually use it?

    I have 2 GoPro's of shame.

    • +1

There's 4 family weddings coming up - so defs would get used there. Going to Cuba for honeymoon might use it there and going Newzealand for a week

      • Drones are incredibly illegal in Cuba,it will be confiscated at the airport on arrival.I have a Mavic & tried taking it there last year, glad I researched before I left Oz

      • +1

Going to Cuba for honeymoon might use it there

Honeymoon in Cuba and you want a drone ?
SO much to do. SO much to discover. SO much to share with newly wed partner.
Are you sure you want a distraction?

Hang on to your money. There will be a better drone in the future. Smaller, cheaper, betterer…
        Buy one then.

PS: Do you know there is a DJI Mavic Air for only $1200 ? ? ?

Do you live in rural. If not, don't bother. That dream of flying through a park and taking its splendor from an aerial view is all but banned in metropolitan parks (by vicinity to flight path, park rules, power lines…)

However, I have great news. For $1,400, you can pay to watch a rat/beaver chew through your door frame in an attempt for a drunko to install a lock. Jolly good experience.

    • Was coming here to type almost exactly this…

If you live in metro areas, it is pointless. DJI are tightening down their software and blocking out no fly zones. Unless you have a really big park or are near open spaces, quadcopters are a waste of time and money.

If you really want to fly a quad and you live in the city, get something like the Spark. Much smaller and easier to fly in small spaces.

If you are going to travel, it might make for some nice shots. I have 2 phantom 3’s. An Adv. and a Pro. That I use for aerial photos and videos. The father owns a Mavic, and while it is nice and much more advanced than the Phantom 3, he hardly ever flys it.

If you live out in rural areas, or make frequent trips out of the city, then they are great, so long as you are not around other people or houses. It’s a big outlay of money that you will possibly use a few times and then it sits there.

And ignore the dullards that crap on about flight time of other quads. Mine run for between 15 and 20 mins on average, and this is more than enough. Gets a bit boring and tedious that I like a break after 15 mins. Swap batteries out and fly again.

      • The Mavic air is also worth considering if you like the Spark. Both small enough to circumvent the UAV laws.

        • I don’t have any experience with the Mavic Air, but it looks the goods. Like a Spark that folds up.

If I could justify buying one, I would. :D

        • @pegaxs:
It comes in a wide choice of colour.

No they are still over 100g so the Casa legislation applies.

The new Ryze Tello which is co built with dji is 80g so that is exempt.

    I have two questions.
    Question one: why?
    Question two: seriously whhhhhhhhyyyy?

  • I bought the DJI Phantom 4. Cost $2,200 (Incl. 4 Batteries etc) had it for a month and flew it into some powerlines (didn't even see them). Now it's just a $2,200 paperweight.

Now only did it fall to it's death, when I went looking for the footage on the SD card there was none, the electricity fried the board.

My advice, think long and hard about getting one. They are very easy to loose, damage.

  • Get one, it's awesome. And get DJI refresh. If you damage it, they will replace it twice within the first year.

I got a refurb one for $880 from DJI in a sale last year. I got some batteries for $110 each on ebay, and bought a case, car charger and multi charger from gearbest. I ended up with everything from the flymore combo for about $1100. I got DJI refresh and I'm about to use it. I crashed it backwards into powerlines. Buy some ND filters also, the thing wont focus in broad daylight without them.

Oh and that refurb they sent me; I've got a feeling it was brand new. It was perfect, had all the stickers on all the bits it was supposed to, and was in a new sealed box.

  • have you actually flown one before to know for sure you want one?

a few years ago, I got caught up in the hype and almost shelled out for a Parrot drone, then I saw the $50 knock-off at K-Mart and got that instead.

I got bored within a few hours and never touched it again……. glad I only paid $50 instead $300 or $400 back in the day.

  • A tourist in Bali fell 115 feet down a cliff recovering a drone which might have been this model. Maybe. His injuries were horrific. You are much less likely to be hanging off (and subsequently not hanging off) 115 foot cliffs if you do not buy this drone. You're welcome.

I wouldn’t purchase any of the mavic drones right now. The mavic pro II is rumoured to be announced this month with a release date between end of March to beginning of June.

I am actually waiting on the Pro II as my first DJI drone. If even half the leaks are true it would be worth the wait.

  • Do you like editing video? Do you want to be standing still looking at your phone while outdoors in beautiful places?

Basically the "fun" of flying the drone wears off pretty quickly. All the cool movies you see on Youtube took hours to film and dozens of hours to edit. You can't fly in many places including most of the cool ones (National Parks, beaches, cities).

If you owned a GoPro and never actually looked at or edited the video (like 90% of people I know) then owning a drone is much the same but even more tedious with the rules and restrictions.

Get it mate, you've found a good price. However consider the DJI Mavic Air for $1280 instead? I would go for that as a first drone instead.

At worst just sell it off if you dont use it.

  • Alot of the dont buy posts are exactly why I haven't puchased as after flymore pack not just drone. You really need to be able to have access to country areas as these things still arent meant ti be used where alot ppl. Also the mavic is first gen of this midol. Full of stories where they have disappeared. Never to be sean again. Its an expensive toy and the picture quality isnt as good as the Phantom. The mavic is more compact. What about the air which is more cost effective and even more compact

Before spending big on a Mavic, consider the $175 + shipping Parrot Bebop as a starter drone.

    https://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/parrot-bebop-drone-…

It's no Mavic, but you can get some decent videos out of it whilst you learn to fly and see how much you actually enjoy flying and how much you'll use a drone.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TMbvZUqHbY

It'll also get you used to flying, so you don't crash your Mavic if you buy one later on.

(That being said, don't bother if you're honeymoon takes you to Canada or somewhere with subzero temperatures - the Bebop camera looses focus in the cold)

  • i'd wait a little bit apparently the price is about to drop on them

  • I strongly agree you should get the spark fly more combo.
First it’s so much cheaper than the Mavic Pro which is like 800$ right now.
Secondly it is light and very portable.
Thirdly the camera is sensational and the range is incredible with a max height of 2km and distance of 8km.
Fourthly it has a pretty good battery life of 16min which is plenty if you have a extra battery with the fly more pack.
Lastly it has awesome flight modes, gestures and safety systems.

Overall I love the spark drone because it is fun to use with both via the remote or gesture control.
I recommend spending your discount on the spark drone on Kogan. Definataly worth it. Trust me.
