Kelvinator 2.5kw Split System Aircon $419 after 20% off @TheGoodGuys eBay and $100 Kelvinator Rebate

100
PICK20

Kelvinator 2.5kW Split System Aircon.
Pretty good price on these. I just bought 3 and had no problems with the purchase going through.
Free Click & Collect
I am assuming the $100 rebate will still work for an ebay purchase since TheGoodGuys are one of the approved retailers for the rebate. Rebate expires in June.
Budget an extra $500-600 for installation by an independent installer. Maybe cheaper now that summer is finishing and demand is slowing down.

  • +$50 shipping, no click n collect
    Still a good price

    • Shows I can click and collect

    • I was able to click and collect. Maybe try choosing a different store if you have several near you.

  • +2

It looks like stacking the Good Guys 20% off plus the $100 Kelvinator rebate (https://www.kelvinator.com.au/other/promotions/promotions/ke…) plus the $300 QLD Energy Rebate (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/352281) it looks like this could be had for a cool $169.34 delivered or a tiny $119.20 if you can find stock to Click & Collect.

    Whoa, now that's a bargain!

    • You will not find stock for this aircon in QLD. QLD models are sold with a special receiver to make it compatible with Energex's Peaksmart device. The QLD version is this model: KSD25HRG

      • Sure… but the KSV model will still work in QLD and you don't need the Energex Peaksmart device to get the $300 QLD rebate. I should know, I bought a KSD in January and it didn't come with the Energex receiver although I understand it's apparently compatible with it. I actually don't want the Peaksmart device anyway, no matter how much more rebate it's worth because I'd prefer to keep full control of my own AC.

        • Or get someone to install it without the device but still sign the paperwork allowing the rebate

        • Sure, I was more pointing out the fact that you will not find one for $119.20. At $169.34, I would spend a little more and get the 3.5KW unit instead:

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Kelvinator-KSD35HRG-C3-5kW-H…

Possible to get this for: $849-20%=$679.20-$300 QLD Rebate=$379.20-$100 Kelvinator Rebate=$279.20-$100 Peaksmart Rebate=$179.20.

      • The Good Guys also had the KSD model on ebay for the same price so just buy the KSD Queensland version

        • TGG has the KSD model for $699 on ebay, which is $50 more for some reason. It is the same price on their website.

        • KSD looks to be $50 more :( But yes, still a great price after all the rebates.

    • Then $600 something to have it installed

  • Anyone know cheap and reliable installation can find in Kogarah area? Thanks.

    • Cheap != Reliable

      • says you.

  • +1

Wow thats amazing deal for qld residents

  • What kind of room are you trying to cool with 2.5kW? (Serious)
I'm in a small apartment in Sydney and the 5kW split system is no good. Thinking of upgrading to 7.1!

  • does anyone know, whether we can still claim rebate in QLD for aircon being a renter.

    • -1

You can get rebate for portable air con if they meet the Star rating requirement

      • +1

No you can't get the rebate for a portable aircon, please read the fine print. You can still get the rebate for a new fridge or washing machine.

        • -1

unless the rebate has changed its for any A/C as long as it meet 4 star rating,

        • +2

@asa79: This has always been the case and is clearly stated in the website: https://www.qld.gov.au/community/cost-of-living-support/abou…

"For air conditioners, the minimum 4 star energy rating relates to cooling. Free-standing, portable air conditioners and evaporative coolers do not qualify for the rebate."

        • +1

@asa79: I'm pretty sure portable ACs weren't included… but on top of that I'm not sure any portable AC has a 4-star rating anyway.

EDIT: Geek beat me to supplying the link :)

        • [@SteveAndBelle]@Geek001: Technically a windows A/C is portable as its just a plug

        • +1

@asa79: Yes but again I think you'll find it difficult to get a 4-star Portable or Window AC which kills the concept dead.

        • @SteveAndBelle: As stated if you can get one that meet the star rating then yes they could get the rebate.

        • @asa79: If perpetual motion was possible then we wouldn't have to worry about the rebate! Same-same.

        • @asa79: Sorry, window units with 4 star ratings do not exist according to the Energy Rating website.

  • Am I the only one unable to actually buy it as it just does not allow to buy it?

  • Purchased 2 in WA. All good so far, awaiting Click n Collect details.

    • Just got a call to collect from my local GoodGuys. :)

  • 2.5kw would be fine for places that dont get much over 30c for a numbers of days in a small 2nd floor bedroom or small apartment that does not have afternoon sun etc. For anything else 2.5kw is next to useless as it will be working flat out and not efficiently. You are always better to go 20% over the KW you need to get efficiency and longer life out of the unit.

    • +3

I've used this exact 2.5kw unit in a 3x3 bedroom during recent QLD heatwave and it performed effortlessly

      • -1

As i said, if you want efficiency and long life its not a unit to use beside the ones i said above where they would work ok {just ok}, just my advice from 20 years installing and maintain both commercial and domestic units:)

        • +1

Well I certainly can respect that

    • +1

also heavily depends on insulation too, 2.5kw is more than enough, try door snakes seals and window awnings outside and also thick roller blinds installed with no gaps, air is a good insulator. 20 years of doing the same sheet doesn't make anyone an expert. just need a willingness to learn basic science and embrace improvement.

    • of course it depends where you put the compressor unit. if you whack it on the southern/eastern side, then you'll be much better off. Or as we did, in the garage. It makes a huge difference.

Anyway these are great little unis.

  • No stock in QLD!

    • Purposely… the KSV in this deal is a non-QLD model! The QLD model is KSD and is identical in every way but it can work with the Energex PeakSmart option allowing them to control your AC when they need to. There are even more rebates available when signing up to PeakSmart however the cost of the unit is $50 more so you have to weigh it all up. Each to their own.

  • I read mixed things about Kelvinator. Whirlpool seems to hate them, but on other review sites they fare equally with other brands. Such a good deal, so is there a reason not to buy two to replace a multi head system?

  • Anyone else who ordered in QLD still waiting ???
