Travel Insurance (Domestic Trip) Full Waiver/Coverage for Rental Vehicle Excess

Hey guys, so have read a few of the posts here and just want to clarify something.

Live in Sydney - Travelling to Perth in next few weeks. Will have a hire car for 10 or so days in Perth and looking to book that via AMEX Travel site to use my travel credit.

Have Amex Qantas Ultimate card which doesn't look to provide much in the way of domestic rental car excess. I also used the card to book my domestic flight.

If I want to waive the standard rental car excess of anything from $4-5k depending on who I rent with. Would I be best with a place like 1cover?

What gets me is that they look to have a $200 excess fee on top of the $40 buck policy premium. So i'd still pay around $240 if I had to make a claim.

Any other thoughts/recommendations?

I’ve used this company before, was pretty competitive.
I’m not sure excess is waived, unless you pay car hire companies insurance excess waiver.
I think with excess insurance you pay excess then make a claim and excess is reimbursed by your secondary insurer.

  • No birds dot come dot au.
Cheap car hire and $0 excess. Limited car options though.

its funny how everyone thinks that credit card insurance covers hire cars completely. If you research even the hire cars insurance you can take out will not cover the entire cost of the car hire for items such as roofs, underbody, windscreens etc. If you read the insurance it says it will only cover what would have been covered by the hire car company itself. So if i were you i would take out the third party comprehensive option that does cover every aspect even though you would have to pay and then get reimbursed.

  • You can only use your Amex credit for Qantas flights if you have the Amex Qantas Ultimate card.

  • Remember to not crash the car then you will not pay any excess

    • I'm sorry but have you SEEN Perth drivers?

      • Perth drivers are way better than ones in Sydney, its madness in Sydney n Melbourne
