Amex extended warranty

Can't find an answer on the Web or this forum but here goes!

If I were to purchase a laptop from USA on my Amex (I know that there are CC fees of 3% instead of fee-free for citibank or bankwest)

Say the laptop was 1000aud. 3% would be 30bucks.

Most Amex cards come with extended warranty up to 1 year extra and most laptops come with international warranty.

Does that mean I can get 1 extended warranty for 30bucks more?

I read through the insurance pds for Amex platinum edge and there is no mention that the product must be bought in Australia. Just that it needs to have warranty in Australia.

  • You'd have to check with the manufacturer whether the laptop has an international warranty…

    • Yes there is. Question is mainly will Amex cover overseas purchased item

  • I bought a galaxy s8 from a seller in us on ebay, paid with paypal linked to my Amex.
Ended up breaking the screen within 3 months, Amex did pay for the repair cost which was around $500.

Its not the same scenario as yours but I believe they do cover the products bought from overseas using Amex.

  • +1

Beware that if the price is over AUD1,000 the 10% GST will be applied.

In general, yes … but it depends on the T&C of the specific card you have.
