I was in the Good Guys O'Conner WA store checking out the Dyson vacuum deal when I noted that in the computer section they had 50% off (red stickers) on the Acer desktop Aspire range. Just the unit and does not include monitors. URL does not show discount. Not being a techhead - good deal or what?

      really?
MSY is more expensive than $550 for:
      Core i3 540 3.06GHz* RAM 4GB* Hard Drive 1TB* 1G Graphics* Windows 7 Home Premium

Care to elaborate on your comment "not a good deal"?

You would be hard pressed to build cheaper than that. That is if you value your own time. Just built a couple of similar spec PC's which worked out close to that price once you factor OEM Windows etc. If I had seen those I would have picked them up and saved the hassle

Wow very good price for a i5 and i3 system with dedicated graphic. I would grab one if they were in Vic

  • Great deal, the X3950 corei5 is $1447 at jbonline. $750 is excellent.

  • Wonder if they'll do that price in Vic

  • Can someone suggest a widescreen monitor to go with it?

Couldn't pay me to touch an Acer.

The $425 build is probably alright for the price and maybe so the $550 one but for $750 you would be better off going the custom build track with an AMD X4 955BE with a 1GB HD6850 (miles ahead of a GF 320 piece of crap the Acer will come with).

Not to mention with a manufacturer like Acer, you'll most likely get a crap case, RAM, HDD, mobo and PSU…

The $750 one is not bad. The graphic card, if it is GF 320, is a little bit weak for 3D games. But others are OK. You won't need a top level case and PSU for such a mid configuration desktop. It will be good for office, multimedia, calculation and normal 3D games. And you can get warranty from Acer I think.
