  Re. Night Mode Pro - this is usually done by placing a contrasting semi-transparent overlay over the whole screen, some apps won't work if an overlay is enabled, (eg. TransferWise and some sections of Settings).

  Helps if the filtering app has a way to whitelist certain apps so that the overlay is disabled when they run, which Night Mode Pro doesn't seem to.

  Some android phones have a built in feature which increases colour temperature without the need for an overlay. On Pixel devices it's called "night light', samsungs have "blue light filter", and any android phone running Nougat 7.0 can access it in a hidden menu too. Those with rooted phones can try f.lux or CF.lumen, which from memory don't use overlays either. It's a shame not all phones have it by default because it's a pretty useful thing to have.
