Save $15 on Any Computer RAM/Memory Purchase. Prices Are Good for MAC, but Not as Much for PC

41

"All you have to do is visit www.facebook.com/RamCityMemory, and click the "Like" button. Then, if you place an order between now and the end of the year, just post a comment on our Facebook Wall with your order number and I'll give you a $15 refund back to the credit card or paypal account used to pay for your order. (Offer only applies once per customer, and can't be used with any other special discounts or offers, other than those specifically provided on our website already, such as our normal bulk-buying discounts.)"

Edit: I am not a rep, but realised the above reads like one. I just cut 'n' pasted the above from a store rep on a discussion forum.
Edit 2: Appears from comments that this is only a bargain for Apple/MAC memory and not PC memory. YMMV

Mod: Rep wants to point out that this deal is actually for all computer users - apple, pc's, servers etc.
Mod: Edited title to clarify that mac ram prices are good. PC ram prices could be better

  • Even with the $15 discount, it's more expensive compared to other places. No deal.

  • Kingston 4GB kit DDR3 1333
    RC: $113.99
    MSY: $63

    2GB Kingston DDR3 SODIMM
    RC: $62.99
    MSY: $34

I can't be bothered comparing the others, but this sounds like a massive rip-off to me.

    • +1 massive rip off..i spent like 30 seconds comparing and straight away this is not cheaper with the discount..BY FAR

    • Did you compare warranty, return policy, money-back guarantee if it doesn't work? Includes delivery? How about charges for using a credit card? Do they include free delivery? Hardly a thorough comparison and mis-informative for other users viewing this forum.

      • The price is 80%+ higher, do I get valet parking and a red carpet at the warehouse pickup point?

        • We might, depending on the number of modules purchased. Which particular Kingston part number are you referring to?

Not only did I save $15, but they were also $40 cheaper that the next cheapest RAM for me. A total saving of $55.

okay maybe cheap for MAC RAM but definitely not for PC RAM

      • From what I've been told, there is no such thing as "MAC RAM"… So I'm guessing it would've cost someone $124 to buy 2x4GB Gskill sodimm sticks from MSY(instead of the generic, yet only $1 cheaper with discount, ramcity ram)

        • yep it's exactly the same ram as pc ram.

apple charge a fortune for it.

$128 at msy. no bargain , but not a rip off.

        • -2

          The MSY GSkill sodimms are DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500), these are DDR3-1333 / PC3-10600. Mac's require the higher speed.

        • Not true. There plenty of reports on forums of mac users having issues with RAM not specifically built and tested in Apple computers.

BTW, our modules aren't generic, and we don't have anything on our website that suggests they are. They are either original, or made with top tier chips, and tested to be compatible in the system they are intended for.

      • Thanks, entry updated

There is little difference in the price of 1066 and 1333… at least not for desktop ram, and by the looks of it, notebook ram as well. Theres about 10 stores selling these for b/w $50 and $60.

      • 240-pin is not compatible.

    • Would two of these work then?

There's a few other brands on their website too.

PCDIY also have a selection of DDR3-1333 SO-DIMMS.

      • MAC RAM and PC RAM, haha so funny, it is just PC(Desktop) RAM with more pins and SO-DIMM(Laptop) RAM with less pins. And it is standard, which means SO-DIMM RAM can be used with other Laptops that uses DDR3 not just MAC

        • As far as I can see it's just that MAC uses the standard DDR3 SO-DIMM form which is 204 pins always. Please correct me if I am wrong.

  • @dmchart

    heh heh… silly MAC users

No, it would seem silly PC users.
240-pin is not compatible. DDR3 1066 is not compatible.

Posters need to ensure they are comparing same, not showing naivety.

I didn't make that comment. I was about to say that was desktop PC ram… but you beat me to it. Furthermore, I was referring to the fact that some of the Apple faithful pay anything for the Apple logo.

        • -2

It's no different from people using Bigpond for their Internet… They just don't know any better!
It's a stupid comment to plaster all Mac users as slaves to the logo. There do exist such people, just like there are people who will only ever buy Sony.

          @scubacoles

I was very careful about writting "SOME" of the Apple faithful.

… Okay, perhaps not in the initial comment.

    2 x 4G Kingston DDR2 Ram for $1986.99?

    http://www.ramcity.com.au/product/KIN1-KVMPC2-8G-02.htm

    "Lowest Price Guarantee"?

    • That's a typo.

      It should be $198699.00

      • rip-off price, you can get RAM at many computer shops at cheaper price without all the hassles of $15 discount.

    • RamCity doesn't stock that kit, and neither do any of the distributors, hence there is no valid pricing for it.

At the top of http://www.ramcity.com.au/system/M090620112235.htm is a 2x4gb sodimm kit, currently $246.99

  • Thanks Mouth. Perfect timing, I was just thinking of upgrading the kids Mac RAM. With the $15 cash back it really is the cheapest that I could find on the net with free shipping. Purchased this morning and paypal refund was done in next to no time Thanks again!

  • This deal was posted on the mactalk.com.au forum, but applies to anyone who posts up their order number on our facebook page. It's for PC users, Apple users, and anyone else who needs a memory upgrade.

  • Calm down all, title has been fixed up. The next person who says "mac sucks" (or similar) get have an extended christmas holiday away from ozbargain.
