Yeah and reducing your cigarette habit from 100 a week to 40 a week will reduce your risk of lung cancer. So why bother to quit?!

        • Not the same thing, sorry. Cholesterol goes up and down according to your diet, unless you have a condition.

Science doesn't prove, it fails to disprove and provisionally accepts results that support a hypothesis. The phrase "scientifically proven" is a useful one though. It acts as a clear indication that you are reading a screed written by a professional bullshit artist for shonks…

My cholesterol was a bit high, couldn't be fixed with diet, was put on statins (20mg, the smallest dose they make) , now I can eat whatever I want and it stays normal level.

……….natural alternative to taking the drug 'statins'………. I doubt it would be as effective in humanly consumable amounts.

As much as these natural options seem attractive, do see a doctor and get cholesterol it checked on your journey to better health to see what works and what doesn't.

The statin does the same job possibly as eating 1 kg of oats per day in regards to lowering cholesterol, who knows so would be good to see tests how much of this stuff needs to be eatin to be as effective as 1 statin per day
    30 statins are $5.50

    Hmm…
The claim that you can use this to replace statin is rather a real UNNETHICAL comment because people are put on statins for a variety of different reasons.

Statins are scientifically proven to lower cholesterol AND reduce cardiovascular risk and chance of stroke and heart attacks (some of this effect are independent to the cholesterol lowering). Therefore some people needs statins even though their cholesterol is quite low because they had a cardiovascular or cerebrovascular event.

So the statement that this can be an alternative to statins are actually HARMFUL to certain people, especially the ones that has the most benefit on statins.

Effects of beta-glucan appears to be real but modest so it is best used as part of a healthy diet rather than replacing medications in someone who actually needs them. It would be good for people who are looking to reduce their LDL through lifestyle management.

And to market things natural… well, I always thought if a company has to push the fact that something is natural, then it is probably useless (hey Arsenic is natural too)

And to reduce cholesterol, saturated fat (e.g. animal fat) is only part of the issues, Sugar and carbohydrate are also the culprit. Cut down sugar (lollies, chocolates etc) and reduce carbs are more important.

  • Thanks so much for information

  • Yes they shouldn't be advertising this product as a replacement for statins. Most who have high cholesterol say mid 200's can usually reduce their cholesterol to under 150 but it does take time if doing it just by diet by avoiding dietary cholesterol and saturated fat. Lipitor can cut cholesterol in 1/2 just by taking 40mg daily, most people start around 10mg-20mg so with that you only get at 1/4 drop. I think the more the better, I would take 80mg which is the maximum recommended dose and in addition a cholesterol lowering diet, get the cholesterol as low as possible, the lower it is, the faster excess cholesterol will be removed from the body.
