  • WD My Cloud 8TB WDBCTL0080HWT-AESN Personal Cloud Network Attached Storage(msy.com.au) $349 was $399

    $399 down to $349 is 13% saving not 50%.

      $50 savings - not 50%

    • -1

      $50 savings - not 50%

      • I didnt misread it - It was originally marked as 50% off, but was later changed by OP or mods.

    R7000p a good deal?

    • Assuming it's an upgraded R7000, I don't know, but if it is its close to the cheapest the R7000 has been.

    • Yea i am wondering if this is a good deal too

        • +4

"Last year I discovered multiple vulnerabilities in NETGEAR products. Now that these vulnerabilities have gone through the disclosure process and have been patched we can discuss the technical details."

Seems to be fixed, unless you mean it's not a good track record.

        • @kyzahh: Pretty sure patches have been released and the vulnerabilities seems to have been fixed but just an FYI to those who aren't aware that they need to update their firmwares.

        • @Hunnypooh: Cheers. I've been reading about certain routers are compatible with different NBN. Mine is FTTP. Will this be alright? Might grab one of this cos my 12000ac router from TPG is so weak

        • @limucat:
Yah, you just need a router for fttp

        • @kyzahh: thank you

    • +3

In my opinion, a very good deal. The price of the R7000 RRP still isn't under $200 and now you're getting the upgraded version with MU-MIMO.
      Definitely would recommend.
I have the R7000 and got it from MSY for $182 on sale but this is a stellar price for the upgrade
From what I've read, where the R7000P over the regular R7000 is the 5gHz band.
The 2.4gHz showed worst performance than the R7000 but to be fair this is a Wave 2 AC wifi router so the AC should be upgraded

      • Not OP but thanks! I've currently been using my old Dlink ADSL modem as a router which works but it's not ideal, this convinced me to buy one of these.

      • I also have the r7000 that my friend gave me and its superior to the Linksys EA 6900. The range and features are better. Netgear also provides regular upgrades unlike Linksys (well I did flash Advance Tomato so its ok now)

The only problem is that during big transfers, the router squeals (probably from the caps). Something to consider if its in close proximity to a living space or bedroom

    • Very good deal

    • +1

I have the R7000P and it's great. I bought it used for $200 a couple of months ago, and I thought that was a good deal. I bought it after reading this Wirecutter review.

    • +2

      Outstanding deal. I've had a R7000 for 4 years… hasn't missed a beat

  • R7000P price is still showing $274.

    • Most of them are for me…

    • same here

im clicking the WD 2.5 HDD's and the prices aren't showing the discount?

      • ;)

  • can you use merlin/advanced tomato on the r7000P? trying to search the internet now and not having much luck.

    • I have had the R7000 for several years (not the R7000P, don't know what the difference between the two are). I have run Tomato by shibby (http://tomato.groov.pl/) on it for most of that time.

  • +1

Nothing exciting other than perhaps the two Netgear stuff.

If you are needing a headset that gamdias one is good. I have it from last time they went on sale (i think $29). They are good quality, fully metal over head bands, big solid earcups with plenty of ear room and the cushioning is comfortable, the cable is also very thick/high quality (almost too good to be honest). Sound quality is good, though kinda Echo-ey when i first plugged them in, messed with some settings and they sounded better.
For $24 they are a steal. even the full price is quite good compared to competitors (most are still shitty plastic at that price

    • What are your thoughts on the mic? Seems good, but not sure about the mic build and sound quality.

      • +1

Sound quality of mic, im really not sure. MY friends can hear me thats as far as i know. They haven't said anything about it, so i guess its not bad.
Build quality. the mic hasn't gotten a lot of use so i havent really stress tested it like other people might. Though i had a very similar headset with the extendy flexible type mic this has and it has kind of stopped working, after about a year of casual use. It works perfectly fine 50% of the time, then another 35% with slight static/crackling (i do say slight because my friends can hear my voice fine, just mild annoyance from static), and the final 15% of the time it just doesnt work.
So overall for this headset i think the only weak link is the mic (if it lasts only as long as the other one). But for $24 thats still a lot better than anything else as they will likely be worse built entirely plastic crap.

        • Thanks, yeah as you said, doesn't sound too bad especially considering the price.

  • +1

Is the Gamdias keyboard any good?

    • I’ll piggy back on this and ask if the gamdias mouse is any good for gaming? And a good deal?

    • Yep, I have one, it's good, clicks feel satisfying.

One of the RGB lights died though, after less than a year of use.

At this price, I'd say it's worth it.

  • +4

yes mumimo … given the rate of nbn rollout.. this router should do me until I die… or end up in jail from all the game of pr0nes I'm going to pirate

  • +2

Almost pulled the trigger on the Netgear R7000 (router) confusing it with the Netgear D7000 (modem/router).

Damn close model numbers and they look identical.

    • I had to double check as well! Been hanging out for a deal for the D7000 this year, nothing so far :(

  • Is the nighthawk a modem router.?just want to replace the standard telstra modem. Thanks

    • Nope, just a router.

      • Damn.. Thought I could replace the basic telstra modem router with a good one..

    • See if you can put your tesltra one in bridge mode and pass through to the nighthalk.

      • you think it can improve the speed and internet stability by still using the telstra as a modem and the nighthawk as a router? I don't want to spend $164 for the same speed and and connectivity.

        • Yes it is possible, as I currently have had my Telstra modem in bridge mode for years. It won't increase your speed as you will only get the maximum speed you are subscribed to, but it will improve your Wi-Fi range and the stability of the connection. So yes it is worth getting if you are not getting NBN in the near future, which I think will be years with the rollout of hfc-nbn.

        • If youre mainly connected through wifi you should notice a decent difference, but if youre just connected through LAN then probably not so much

        • Almost all ISP-supplied routers are crap. My Telstra one used to always drop out once anything connected to wifi. Bought a Netgear modem/router and it worked perfectly. I'm now with iiNet cable and while ethernet on the supplied modem is fine, the wifi was also constantly dropping out, and the coverage was terrible. I pulled the trigger on this Nighthawk and set it up last night, bridging the iiNet modem and running everything through the Nighthawk instead. The coverage is ridiculously good (I now have wifi everywhere in the house and in my back yard) and I haven't had one drop-out so far, so it's already miles ahead.

It most likely won't improve your speed, but it should improve stability for you greatly.

        • Internet stability? No. Speed? Debatable. Are we talking LAN cable speed? Wifi?

Try to create a local network (homegroup) and try transferring a large file from one computer to another (or phone). If the speeds acceptable then give the router a miss

It seems like you would benefit more from a decent modem/router in your case as you are specifically complaining about your internet dropping.

  • +1

Apart from the convenience of 1 device for both the modem and router functions, are there any other benefits buying a combined modem/router over a router ( e.g buying the net gear D7000 vs R7000p)?
Context: am currently using the modem/router that Optus provides and I have cable.

    • Would also like to know this. I just signed up to telstra cable, and they gave me the stock modem and router, but i've been told that they're terrible. Would this be a good upgrade?

      • I have Telstra cable and run the Telstra modem + R7000. Damn good setup since the WiFi on the stock modem/router is terrible. The R7000 fixes that issue and performs well.

        • having Telstra Cable as well, they Gave me Netgear modem router. rubblish. disable WIFI from the original modem, bought netgear nightHawk x6 A3200 wifi router and connect to the modem. flying.

        • @samedream:

          Telstra gave me these https://imgur.com/nQT61kJ

Do you think I should get the r7000 to replace it?

        • @drose01:
you have to use their cable modem but wifi router/gateway, better update to something else if you want wifi to cover the whole house.

      • When I was with telstra cable at an old house I used the modem they provided and I found that it had a better wifi range than my router.
I had no issues with reliability either.

        • I have the Telstra smart modem (frontier) and can't put it in to bridge mode because it disables the backup 4G service. However I put my nighthawk in AP mode, therefore using Telstra modem but with extension of the netgear. I now have strong WiFi coverage throughout the house.

  • +1

Bugger was hoping their HDD's would have been cheaper.

  • +1

The 2.5" drives seem to be full price again.

    • +1

did you actually see them go down to the discounted price?

      • Nope, just when I looked at the time of my comment above they were full price.

        • +1

Neither. When do these prices actually take effect? If OP could actually provide a source that'd be good.

  • ugh please ignore this comment. I thought a modem was cheaper elsewhere.

  • Good price for 4tb red local stock?

  • R7000 ok to use for a direct FTTP NBN connection, so I can upgrade / remove my old Netgear modem/router combo?

    • +1

For FTTP, the modem is built into the premises. This is called the Network Termination Device (NTD). The router which distributes the one ethernet cable to 4 wired and numerous wireless devices.

  • So how is the Gamdias M1 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard like? From some readings, I understand they're using their own switches to feel like the Cherry Switches.. but how good are they really? And what's the build like?

  • The price for monitors online has not been updated yet?

    Thanks

  • Just wondering does R7000P work on both ADSL and NBN? Thanks

    • +1

I think you will find that they are out of stock now.

      • indeed. though their stock availability tab says differently. not sure what's going on

      • Not necessarily; the SA, QLD and WA online stores still say In Stock. If your closest store is out of stock you can probably get it delivered from one of those. Had a look out of curiosity and they could ship it to me in VIC from SA for $15, so still a pretty good deal.

    • A router works anywhere regardless of network technology.

You will need a modem or modem/router for ADSL, ADSL2+, FTTN / VDSL, HFC

Some Isps require Annex B for Fttn with vectoring hence why some third party modems don't work

The MSI GTX 1080 is $789, not $895. Pretty great price! http://www.msy.com.au/vic/dandenong/graphics-card/17186--msi…

Edit: Ah, the $895 price includes a hard drive.

    • +1

It must have been a price error, because the price is now $929.

  • +1

Aaaaand the Nighthawk is out of stock

    • you can still get it shipped from other states just add around $13 postage - check stock availability

      • +2

All good price matched at Officeworks for $155.80

        • Damn, I should have thought to do that. Just got back from picking mine up. But hey at $164 still a great deal.

Also no discount on 3.5 internal HDD

  • +2

Remove the strikethrough on the nighthawk, theres still stock in other states and you can change your location to have it shipped

  • -1

Come on OP.. Provide some source to these "discounts". Where are you?

  • As mentioned by others above, the Netgear Nighthawk R7000P is still available for order interstate. I just tried and can order from QLD store at $182.27 after delivery and handling charges.

Or better yet, you can go into your nearest Officeworks and ask them to price beat, $173.16 after 5% off the delivery price.

  • Hard drives don’t seem to be discounted anyone one else having the same issue?

  • TP-LINK Archer VR400 AC1200 Wireless Dual Band VDSL/ADSL Modem Router

Is this a good modem router? One gigabit port is enough for me.

    • I'd like to know too. My house only has ADSL2+ and NBN will be unavailable until mid to late 2019
