9kg Gas Bottle (filled) - $39.95 QLD, Stratco

130

Been looking around for a 9kg gas bottle for the bbq to use on xmas day. Best I could find was $39.95 at stratco (filled). Go to bunnings, and they'll match and beat the price by 10%. Only problem is that bunnings only stock 8.5kg bottles, but $35.95 for a filled 8.5kg gas bottle is still cheap in my books.

FYI - I got underwood bunnings to price match with catalogue on iphone.

Not a bargain, you can get a 9kg one at Supercheap for $29.99 on their last sale. Same price at BBQ Galore with 25% off voucher. I've got mine last week at BCF for $29.99 price match Supercheap. They have the same owner anyway.

or you can go to any servo and buy a "swap and go" bottle…. use it for as long as you like, keep it, whatever… and if the valve ever gives way you can trade it in for another one. pay once for the bottle and then never have to worry again. only chumps buy their own bottles these days, only for some 15yo casual at bbq's galore to freeze the valve and stuff it up on you.

that's not including the waiting around for the bottle to be filled, finding an assistant who'll be able to do it, and being lucky enough to not have to wait for 3 people in front of you wanting the exact same thing.

swap and go is king- for the $5-10 extra its well worth the ability of being able to pull up to servo and in a minute be out of there. no waiting, no having to service your bottle every few years.

This is my first and only gas bottle. Swap and go wasn't an option.

Cool story. But clearly not everyone wants a stop and go bottle, which do infact still work out dearer.

Whilst the swap and go thing has some advantages it isn't price
If you don't have a bottle with gas you pay $81.95 for the same thing that this deal offers for $39.95
If you do have an in date bottle you can get it filled for around $20 - Swap and Go is $34.95 & it's only 8.5kg
So if you want the convenience, are worried about the time or the potential problems with bottles or even if your bottle is nearly out of date then perhaps Swap and Go is for you - but if you want to save money this deal + refills looks pretty sweet

  • Agreed! Good price for a filled 9kg bottle! My local servo does 9kg fills for $19, so do many other independents…actually if I can leave my fills til I'm passing thru Cessnock/Kurri NSW it drops to $15…which puts you way ahead of Swap'n'go before you even hit the first refill, and 9kg last for ages in a BBQ, so planning ahead for refills isn't such a big issue IMHO! ;)

    • Yea and ours used top do it for $14 until the tourists arrived this week and its now $15. But thats business - agree with everyone about swap and go. Yes its convenient, but so is paying $2+ for bottles of coke. And when your bottle comes close to expiring, you go to swap and go, switch out the bottle and go back to filling it yourself. As for 9kg vs 8.5kg I think in reality the 8.5 is what you realistically can expect to get with any fill, its not an exact science how they refill, they are now saying 8.5 as it maybe 8.7 8.9 etc this way they cant get nailed for giving you a little less

Only a $1 more, the people around your parts sure are nice :)
