Unscrupulous dealing with Chinese Gearbest. This is why Amazon dominates

  • Ordered $60 parcel from Gearbest in November 2017

  • Received notification from Gearbest On January 10th that parcel was returned due to insufficient address (acknowledge this was my fault).

  • Paid invoice for $4 return express shipping on January 11th

  • Messaged for progress after 7 weeks, however, got an answer another 3 weeks later after more persistent messaging.

  • Finally received the below message today.

We are extremely sorry regarding this delivery failure.
We have received the feedback from shipping courier.
We regret to inform you that the shipping company is responsible not only for this issue but also for making sure that all parcels they ship are successfully received.
According to their policy the parcel will be either be destroyed or abandoned of the delivery has failed.

Also had previous pre-order for an Axon 7 canceled after waiting for a month. Hope other Ozbargainers use their site cautiously as this is not the first case of similarly poor business responsibility.

Paypal dispute has been arranged.

That sucks, but I'm sure people know not to buy stuff on GearBest and similar sites that they need urgently.

parcel was returned due to insufficient address (acknowledge this was my fault).

We can refund 22 USD as a proof of good will

So what are you complaining about?

You screwed up, you wear it.

  • +4

Yeah next time make sure your address is correct. I can only imagine the headaches Gearbest have deal with when it comes to distributors. I can almost guarantee they're the ones that delay the process.

  • This is why Amazon dominates

    I didn't realise there's an Amazon HK?

You really think Amazon AU is selling more than GB? Lol that's hilarious

    • Last time I checked GB's figures Australia wasn't even in the top ten countries! It truly is impressive.

    • Before amazon.com.au came, Amazon was still the #1 online retailer in Oz…

      • in Oz…

Wasn't using that as my reference point though…

dealing with buyers who can't even provide their own complete delivery address. That's what annoys me about selling on ebay.

Got the same exact thing. I won't be using Chinese sites again unless it's $5 throwaway junk. Buyer beware.

Gearbest and Bangood are both right pains to get any resolution from. Both try to offer "points" as compensation which are worthless, you usually have a minumum spend to use any points then there is a cap on how many points you can apply (I think I could get at best, 10% future purchases)

Just discovered today after about 30 mins on the phone to Auspost that Gearbest actually mislabelled both items's suburbs and postcodes so they went back to the sender. Blame lies solely on them but they still bluntly refuse to admit any wrongdoing. Gearbest originally told me the items were "destroyed by customs" so totally contradicted themselves.

    Escalated to Paypal.

After the hassles I've had with these two sites, I strongly suggest paying extra to get something via Amazon or just pay the AU$tax and get from a store.

    • suburbs and postcodes

it's common for addressees in australia to not know which city to use with their postcode.

      • +1

What are you supposed to put in the city field? I am always confused when there is no suburb, it's a very American way of doing things.

  • +8

I see why you are extinct. Stop complaining when you stuffed up.

    • +2

      Whoa…

      Too soon man, too soon.

Still have an update you, magnificent bastard.

  • +2

Why did you have to write Chinese in the title?

    • +2

It helps set the tone when a rant begins with a little casual rascism. This is Australia, man!
We have had our one day per year of racial harmony.

      • +1

        Why is speaking\writing Chinese racist?

      • obviously the 4 people who negged you didn't get the joke.

    • +2

Because it's a Chinese company. We don't want people mistaking it for an Australian company no matter how much the Chinese pretend they are.

      • +2

        Every Ozbargainer knows Gearbeat though

        • No, every ozbargainer knows banggood.

        • @smuggler: No, every ozbargainer knows OzBargain.

  • +3

If Amazon starts hosting deals for semi useful "freebies" a few cents including shipping I will gladly give my business to them.

  • +2

    Ambiguous original post.

After being told the shipping address you incorrectly provided was acknowledged, was the parcel returned to Gearbest or it was never returned to Gearbest?

Was there a second dispatch of the parcel?

I can only infer there was only one dispatch and after discovering your parcel has been idle due to incomplete address, you paid for it to be returned to Gearbest but that's the end of the line. If that's the case, it is hardly Gearbest's problem, mildly the courier's problem (because they didn't verify a legitimate destination address) and generally your mistake which you have acknowledged.

If what I inferred is correct, you're just being libellous.

  • Online Mega retailer can't ensure the paid tracking of a parcel.

    Consumers fault.

    • +2

What was insufficient about your address? That could shed us some light on exactly why it didn't arrive.

      • There was a second attempt at delivery to the corrected address, which was invoiced and paid for.

  • +3

    This is why Amazon dominates

My last 2 orders with American Amazon have been cancelled due to lack of stock. Amazon are useless. I've never had a problem with Gearbest

  • I have five (5) orders FULLY PAID dating from October 2017 ?…from GearBest!!
I am still waiting …. But it takes GB 3 to 6 weeks to reply ???? Most of the times for irrelevant information ….Let me state clearly :
GearBest are a bunch of Thieves and Liars.
