Bunnings Finally Joins The Modern Age and Offers Online Purchases! But...

Was having a look at the Bunnings website and saw that they finally allow you to purchase online.

With you choice of pick-up or delivery.

Delivery for the item I added, a Dewalt Random Orbital Palm Sander was $10.00, somewhat reasonable.

BUT (and it is a big one)

in a curious move it is only available for things they do not have in stock

It is only for item's that are SPECIAL ORDER

I cannot understand the thinking behind this.

Really, I just want to have sausage's and onions in a slice of bread with a bit of tomato sauce home delivered.

Is that too much to ask?

It needs to be delivered in a free recycled box as well

The shipment label may be just attached directly to the product itself :)

      Totally unreasonable. Have an upvote.

Just imagine the anxiety it would cause if I ordered a battery powered chain saw.

Flying chain saw coarsing through the air.

        Glorious.

I’m no expert, but my guess is probably that a; competition isn’t pushing them enough to feel like they need to (Amazon in the US have heaps of tools and stuff online but not sure about AU), b; by making people come in they’re likely to also buy some other crap in the store that they don’t necessarily need and I guess finally a lot of their trade is people looking for advice or tradies who might not be interested in shopping online.

The way that they’ve integrated it does seem a bit odd though. Maybe their dipping their toes?

Maybe, but you would think they would start with things they have in stock.

There has been a few occasions when they have had items on sale, because of Aldi, but i have not been able to get in to a store before the sale is over. I would have happily paid online and then picked up when able to do so.

And they finally show stock levels…..hooray!

    • Don't put too much faith in stock levels on their system. this weekend I've had to go to 4 different bunnings stores to find a certain tap. 3 of the stores said they had more than 40 in stock but when I got there NADA. While I was at the various stores I heard six other people unable to find items that their system said they had in stock.

I was wondering why the hell Bunnings doesn’t have Click and Collect yet. Surely that could only boost sales.

But then again, it might be about getting bodies into stores. I know I have gone in for a tap washer and left with enough parts to renovate a small house.., They may be banking on people who do that, where as online shopping, people might only get the actual item they were shopping for…

I can't leave a Bunnings without spending at least $100.

      Plus Sausage money.

“Would you like to get cash out as well?” Asks the cashier…

Of course I want some bloody cash out! How else am I going to buy my sausage sanga and can of coke?? :D

        • haha, I think it's the only place I pay cash these days.

My guess is they are new to this space so need to introduce the whole sell Online in phases. Their stores (or HQ) probably are not set up to hold inventory, then pick stock, pack it, ship it. Instead if they don't have stock they can place an order from supplier and get it shipped (direct to customer.. "drop ship" perhaps?)

It's much easier to get a store to pick up items and put it to one side for collect. If you need to get them to post it out, that's a hassle!! :S

I'm sure they'll fix that as time goes by

    • this is what I reckon they're doing - if it has to be ordered anyway, might as well send straight to consumer

Great for us regional folk where the nearest Bunnings is hundreds of kms or more away. Pity it’s not the whole range.

  • About time

  • I think its a bid to tap into the specialised trade goods market. Bunnings has too many generic items, or standard fitments and fittings. As soon as I need a special item or something not as available you have to go elsewhere. This might be the, give us a chance to get it in stock. Alot of stuff are listed on their website BUT never in store when you ask.

  • The items they don't stock, had to be ordered "online" in the store anyway. This is probably reducing their overhead, in some ways.

Also, this way they aren't stuck with the item when folks ask Bunnings to get the item in and then change their mind.

Definitely agree with the walk around effect in a Bunnings store: go for a $5 item, leave with $300 worth of stuff and a much longer todo list at home.
