Best Car Insurance for a 25 Year Old Barely Drives

Hi I'm looking to get car insurance.

Female, I'm nearly 25 years old, by next month I will be. I have a Nissan Pulsar Q 2005.
I barely drive at all and when I do it's not long at all, for maybe like 30 mins only or less.
Also my car is normally parked in the driveway under the thing.

Which would be the best car insurance for me? I'm new and confused with all this, lol.

How about you go online and do some quotes and then ask?

    Wtf??

      Hahahaha!

  • With Youi, you save.

    Pls don’t actually choose Youi.

but it's parked under the thing, the thing!

Driving kms won't make a difference.

    Just get multiple quotes.

Youi was a waste of time for me, their quote was 1k more expensive, and their website deliberately doesnt give you a quote so they can call you and tell you about youi dollars.

Youi are a JOKE. Their stupid "rewards" program is rubbish, you can get all the deals elsewhere but they make it out to be something special. Their quote was laughable for me. But driving KM's can make a difference with some companies.

      • yeah, i got a 10 minute sales speech and answered all these questions that would save me money (aka dont use a phone at all while driving), then got the above deal (terrible). They were happy to give me the youi dollars though, showing they're not that valuable after all.

        • They asked me questions that were already answered when I filled in the online form. I said thanks but no thanks after 2 minutes, didn't even wait for a quote. Then an hour later I got an SMS for an expensive quote anyway. Not sure what they're trying to do, waste both of our times?!

With a 2005 car, I think firstly you have to decide whether you'd want comprehensive or just third party insurance.

Once you've made up your mind, just do multiple online quotes with the various insurers.

Woolworths have a ‘Drive Less Pay Less’ comprehensive insurance based on the amount of KMs you drive in a year. Might be the one for you? Not too sure if that applies to third party as well.

    • I agree. OP needs to decide if she needs full comprehensive insurance (your car is replaced or repaired after paying an excess) or third party property (won't replace or repair your car but for when you crash into a Ferrari and would rather not pay to repair that!)

I choose third party property as my car isn't worth the premium I was quoted to insure it.

Can you afford to write your car off and have to replace it yourself?

      • Just remember that if you have to chase another person for payment for repairs, 3rd party insurance won't do the chasing for you.

Think how much that service is worth when you decide between comprehensive and 3rd party.

To clarify I'm not saying 3rd party is crap, just pointing out the potential pitfalls.

  • Sending you a PM.

  • On a slightly different topic, I've never really heard much about "per day" insurance in Australia. It normally refers to additional cover on a rental, but that often comes to around $10 a day, which ends up being the same as third-party only insurance for a year if you drive just once a week (whether 30 minutes or 8 hours).

For those on a tight budget with more expensive insurance (e.g. comprehensive) it may be worth the hassle of getting and cancelling insurance for $40 or so when you know for sure the car won't be driven for a few months. When a car of mine died with almost half a year of insurance and CTP left the money left over was quite surprising (and rewarding).

    • For those on a tight budget, you'd sell the car and just rent/hire for the few days.

I doubt pay day/km insurance is that good anyway (and is just a marketing tactic), from what i've seen, the initial policy cost is the bulk of the fee, and anything extra is a little more. i.e. listing your car as high kms usage has a menial effect on the policy

just get 3rd party property insurance for $200 pa from any insurer … coles , racv, etc. etc.

ohh, feel free to park under my thing

Use iSelect as a starting point.

  • In which State do you live as that can make a big difference.

Do you really need a car?

  • Bingle was most reasonable for comprehensive when I was under 30.

Use QBE for compulsory third party, is cheapest for me here in NSW.

  • I would suggest, Third party Fire and Theft, Pulsars are one of the highest stolen cars around, might get stolen if its only parked under the thing.
    AAMI always seems cheap.

  • I barely drive at all

can you quantify in your post? how many kms a week/month/year? you estimate your usage on insurance quotes …
