I'm holding out for the V12 twin turbo model

    • Super-charger or I'm not interested.

      • I think Initial D had some views on supercharger or twin turbo

  • Battery life is improving quite a lot. Still very expensive though.

    • Word on the grape vine is solid state battery’s are still another 4-5 years away, could be longer or a bit more expensive so I wouldn’t expect another big increase unless they go with a bigger capacity.

      • TIL solid state batteries are a thing…

  • +1

my last one just died, but i think i will live with a $300 version for the time been

    • Really? What model and how old?

Every vacuum I've owned has lasted something in the order of 8-10 years (and still working).

You would expect these expensive vacuums to last a similar time.

    • It could just be battery. Mine died in 3 years. I ordered battery from Dyson and it is working again.

      • yeah shitty battery and for some reason, it wont vacuum when pointed up.

its out of warranty, around 3 years old.

        • +1

          Ouch.

Give it 5 years and Dyson will bring out a revolutionary unlimited power vacuum.

There is a lot to be said for a cord.

        • Have you checked if it's a connection issue. mine was loose so I just jammed in a business card.

        • +2

I had a DC59 Animal. If you pointed it up, the filter falls out. It does not lock into place. How difficult would it be to design a lock mechanism so that it doesn't fall out?

        • @lostn: that was the second problem

          But then again

My one year old pushed it over, it fell and then the dust collector can’t be fitted in again

The vacuum went into the communal bin today

      • is it easy to change ? just a few screws ?

        or need to hotwire

        • just screws. I got it replaced under warranty and they got me to install it over the phone.

    • which 1 died ? v6 ?

wow $900 for a stick vaccum cleaner whith a mediocre battery life unless on low power mode, might as well go for the V8 with similar performance and 2/3 of the price. here is a battery life test result from Choice

In practice, our tests show that in max mode with the brush bar employed, the battery on the V10 only lasts a mere nine minutes – the same amount we measured on the V8. We tested the battery on medium settings with the motorised brush bar, and it lasted almost 26 minutes.

    • +1

The only real improvement is the marketing.

      • Dyson is discontinuing non-cordless vacs, so you better get used to it.

And this V10 is supposed to be the answer to critics who say battery life isn't long enough. Not looking good if you ask me.

        • +1

when my current corded Dyson dies, I'm switching to Miele

        • +2

@beatsntoons: I made that move a few years ago. Couldn't be happier.

If you end up buying from TGG, I recommend getting the Concierge service with it. I don't know how much it costs, I think less than $40. In addition to extended warranty that is upgraded to instant exchange at TGG as opposed to sending it back to manufacturer and waiting for repair, you will get 3x $20 store credits per year for 3 years. That will pay for your filters and bags.

Right now you can get the C3 Cat & Dog for under $400. It sucks better than the dyson, and it's nice to only need to empty it every few months as opposed to every time you use it.

        • @lostn: I want to go the Miele because I’ve herd such good things about it bout I also want cordless vacuum so I’m stuck on the fence🙁

        • +1

@Dusto: I see. I had to buy two Dysons, one corded and then one cordless, before I learned my lesson. Take it as the next part of your learning experience.

It's useful for cars (if you're quick — for me, I couldn't do the full car on one charge). And if you need to vacuum a house with no power. Otherwise, everything else it does can be done with a corded. Cordless isn't bad. Just this one is very expensive. Twice the price of a C3 C&D. Maybe buy one C3, and spend the remaining $400 on a V6 or V8, and get both worlds.

        • @lostn: is there any other cordless vacs ppl can recommend besides Dyson that are just as good but don’t have the price tag?

        • @Dusto: Not that I know of.

Dyson likes to go for these niches that are cool but not necessarily practical. For example, bladeless fans, bladeless hairdryer. Very expensive products I might add, that don't outperform products that cost a fraction of their price.

Competitors don't copy their idea because they don't think it can be done well enough, or justify the price tag.

  • +5

I've never seen a pre order for a vacuum cleaner lol…

    • +5

They may need to. Once the real world reviews come in we'll all realise it's nothing more special than a well planned marketing campaign. Yes they are good products, but not revolutionary as they'll have you believe (I bet).

      • In that case I'll jump on the v8 whilst on clearance.

        • Or get a real vacuum

  • They are saying this V10 has the same suction as good as a normal vacuum. Do they mean a normal Dyson Vacuum or a $50 Big W Vacuum?

    • Close to a dyson on max. But the battery life suffers.

      • What would it compare to when just using normal mode

        I have a V6 atm and a DC54 Animal normal vac

        • I'd say it will be similar to the ones you have.

  • If you don't have a Dyson, you ain't a baller

But I worry - how will Dyson compete - $149 - $199, 2 for the price of one, and half price! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKTgxscUCIo
    "I'll get shot for this"

  • I"ll wait for boxing day 20% off.

  • I've had a play with one of these, quick impressions:

It has 3 suction modes, i, ii and turbo - all of these seem like they suck (in a good way) more than previous versions (v6/d59 etc) - but as they are much quieter it's hard to compare without proper testing.
Heavier than previous versions - extra big waste container = less emptying but also = more plastic = more weight. This was only an issue when getting spider webs from the ceilings as the extra weight is counter measured by the ball joint on the head being super sensitive, it really glides very impressive.

  • Ooohh nice, i want one, no, I need one! but damn the price!!!

    • This will get cheaper.. when V12 is on the horizon.

  • +2

Since I bought Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner I stopped using Dyson which I bought less than a year ago. Dyson is over priced.

    • Robot vacumm is more likely a sweeper than a vacumm. It wouldn’t be able to suck dirt out of carpets.

  • +2

I used to repair these, no matter what you can't stop people from buying them, I mean they did make some great models way back when.
Just going by the amount of chatter here, you can see that they've become almost a status symbol now days. Wow ….you got a Dyson , IPhone and an Ipad ! you must be doing alright hey ! I'm a bit over it to be honest.

There are more reliable and better priced models to choose from that don't need a spare something every 12 months.

Vacuum cleaners (especially a $500-$800 one) should last 10-15 years of medium use, though honestly some of these older Dyson's where not really designed to do the entire house or even deep cleaning a room for that matter.

Not sure how long these will last, only time will tell. Maybe you are in the position to throw away $800 after 3-5 years, or do what I do and just buy 5 or 6 cheaper models over time, leave one the garage and one in the house and probably get 10-15 years use out of them.
This way I have spares, and I can update if I wish to.

My DC07 from 2002 still going strong. It's had a couple of hoses over the years and I put new wheels on as they were scratching wooden floors. Bargain.

Things have changed. Fashion and technology move on so fast now. Not long before we buy electric cars with a two year replacement schedule. This year's Nissan Leaf has twice the range and is cheaper than last year's.

  • It looks like this model bleaches the carpet !

  • +2

    Never again a Dyson!

My top-of-the-line animal version lasted just over 3 years and stopped altogether. The handheld one lasted about 2 years before the battery completed screwed.

Just over-priced and over-marketed crap worth 1/3 of the retail price.

    • +1

My V6 animal died on the 3rd year too.

      1) motorised head died
      2) battery died

It’s out of warranty so it’s almost better to buy a new one instead.

      • +1

Same. V6 animal & now have the dreaded blinking battery light.
Was happy with it while it worked, but pretty annoyed the battery has only lasted 3 years. :-(
I’m particularly annoyed because the battery was running strong before it died.

I think a new battery is around $80, so a good source of revenue for Dyson. It’s almost like Dyson treat batteries like printer companies treat inkjet cartridges.

        • I was reading some articles suggesting that Dyson really did not use the best materials/components. Not the worst, but far from the RRP may have suggested.

In other words, you could get better materials and better made machines for much cheaper. Judging from this forum, my next purchase is likely to be Miele or Bosch. Or the kmart one…

  • +1

Asterisk with no matching footnote makes me sad :(

  • The amount of dust sucked up in that thumbnail would have filled up the tank and then some.

  • v10?
the v8 was only released not too long ago.

    • +1

And the v6 was released not too long before the v8. And the DC59 not too long before the V6.

Welcome to Dyson and their excellent marketing strategy. You have to have the best, and then it doesn't stay best for long and you wish you had the new best, and when that's on special you buy that too, only to see it superceded again.

      • -1

at this rate, it won't be long before they make a v infinity powerful enough to suck in a black hole.

  • What if it Dyson the same day the warranty expires?

  • A review doesn't get much better than this. I didn't think that I needed to replace my DC48 until I read it.

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/dyson-v10-absolute-cor…

  • I’m a self confessed dyson stick addict
    I have a dc 35
    Dc 44
    2 x dc 59
    And 2 X V8
I missed out on the V6 model as to be honest my husband is sick and tired of me wanting to upgrade all the time but I’m looking forward to get the new V10 the bigger barrel and longer battery life is impressive.

    • +1

Do you own that many so you can do the whole house in one day without stopping to recharge?

    • I think the fact that you have so many illustrates the impracticality of these. What is the reason for so many?

I've purchased 1 vacuum (and 1 stick vacuum) in the past 9 years and it's still going strong (Dyson DC23). Though I did just purchase a new DC29 only due to the good price and since Dyson claim to be discontinuing the corded models (want to have a backup should the 9yr old one fail).

I also have 1 stick vacuum too (for those little messes the kids make during the day).

But you've got 5 stick vacuums there - that must be something like > $3k of vacuums, seems a little crazy.

I’m looking forward to get the new V10 the bigger barrel and longer battery life is impressive.

You think that's impressive? The corded models have almost unlimited run-time (power cuts do happen) and have an EVEN BIGGER barrel!

Note, the battery life is not that impressive. On Max mode it's only 9mins, on 'Normal' (ahem, normal, hahaha, "Economy/pathetic") mode it may stretch out to 60mins, but you'll need that full 60min because on "Normal" mode these things suck hardly suck at all.

      • Not true.. I have the V10 (competition win) and the "normal" mode is more than enough for hardwood/tile floors. The max mode last about 10 min only if you continuously vacuum without taking your finger off the trigger. I manage to vacuum my whole house in one charge.
