Your Pillow Recommendations

In need of a new pillow after several weeks of neck pain. Current one is a $10 side sleeper from Target I've had for a year or so. I've previously owned some Ikea pillows too and didn't think much of them.

Looking through past threads on here it seems Dunlopillo is popular, they also rate highly on Choice and Canstar Blue. Pillow Talk come out on top on Canstar and a mob I've never heard of called MicroCloud rate very highly on Product Review. I'm also seeing positive reviews of pillows from Koala, who apparently make well regarded mattresses, however they apparently aren't selling pillows at this time.

At this stage I'm leaning towards MicroCloud, however I should probably stick with the more popular Dunlopillo. Any feedback please.

  • I've been struggling to find a low pillow from anywhere
Good luck with your search I hope someone helps out

  • Man I have 4-5 pillows of varying size, density and buoyancy yet none of them seem to be any good, I have a terrible sleep posture where my head slides forwards to one side of the pillow resulting in me being hunched over all night. I think I may do it unknowingly due to 1-1.5 of my nostrils being smothered in my sleep.

I would kill for a good pillow.

I bought the Dunlopillo Luxurious Latex Classic pillow recently after always waking up with a sore neck. It is really comfortable, I am sleeping well and no more sore necks.

get the 2pk $10 tontine .. stuff both in 1 pillowcase

Worst pillows I have ever bought to be honest.

Not comfortable super puffy always sliding. Would sleep on a domino's box instead.

  • I tried buckwheat, memory foam, target latex, and cheap tontine pillows, none of them are the silver bullet to sore neck.
I do notice with memory foam and latex your head gets slightly elevated when you lie on your back, and thus i found to use tontine pillow more often than the others.
For side sleeping the memory foam and latex seems to be better because they’re higher than the tontine.

Anyway, i think doing neck streches and exercises are more important than trying to find the perfect pillow, if such pillow exists at all.

  • Try layers of towels and gradually reduce to no pillow.

  • Human pillow is the best.

    • ( o Y o )

      • twin pillows are even better

  • From my research, Dunlopillo have changed ownership/management and the quality in recent years hasn't been the same.

The pillow you need really requires on how you sleep. If you're a side sleeper a more solid pillow would suit you.

    • agree with this. having just done some work with the chiro, how you sleep (back, side) should dictate the type of pillow.

those ergonomic shaped pillows could be worth investigating. ecosa has one (similar setup to koala where you have a 100 day trial or money back. also delivers same day apparently).

I currently have a koala. its not bad but a tad high for my liking.

  • If you're thinking of getting a Dunlopillo then try out pillows from TLC. They're a bit cheaper (much cheaper if you buy the 2 pack) and are good quality. They also post on OzB every now and then.

  • Pillows are a very personal preference. I have found luck with a latex contour pillow. The contour is great for supporting your neck as you sleep.

I use the Tempur butterfly pillow and love it. I switch a lot between back/side/stomach sleeping and I love the grove that fits the shoulder when side sleeping. Also really good for stomach sleeping for the same reason, as I put my head on one of the "wings". Back sleeping pretty much the same as regular memory foam pillows.

A waifu hug pillow from Japan.

  • This one is highly recommended, wife got jealous after trying it and got herself one. Good price on sale too.

  • with pillow its better to try them out first, go to Myer or David Jones where they have a larger selection to choose from. Test them out and buy online for cheaper price.

  • Latex. Didn't get memory foam bc that can be a bit hot.

  • I have a Dentons contour pillow and it fixed my sore neck in the morning problem. I could not go back to any other pillow now.

  • We've had the RÖLLEKA Memory Foam Pillows from IKEA for a couple months now, threw on a couple silk pillowcases and they have been incredible, easily the best pillow I've ever had and only $25. If you've already tried IKEA and didn't like them I can't help lol.

  • Supreme Quilts. Someone recommended them to me a while ago. It’s a local South Australian company making better bedding than the most expensive Sheridan stuff. Not exactly cheap, but very high quality.

  • After a few of years of neck pain and unsuccessful visits to various therapists. I bought a "made-to-measure" contour pillow from these guys: Sleep Made to Measure, who use your measurements to select a pillow from a range of sizes. Both my wife and I ordered one and the two pillows are radically different, so it's not a con. My pillow felt surprising high at first, but my neck pain disappeared over the next couple of weeks, and I've only had minimal recurrence since then.

Not cheap (so ok, it's questionable whether this belongs on OzBargain :-)), but we are still using both pillows after 7 years and there's almost no sign of them losing shape, so on a long-term basis, not so bad.

  • I used to use only Dunlopillo but for some reason they don't seem to make them the same anymore.

Someone recommended TLC pillows to me last year and I'm loving mine. They are flexible and helpful and quite responsive over email and phone.

As a side sleeper, finding the right pillow is important to me. They have The Soft Medium height profile which is my go to pillow.
