Vodafone $5/Day Roaming

I am going to Japan this April - May for 18 days and would like to know if anyone had use the $5/day roaming with Vodafone before?

Any problem with it? Hubby will use his daily and I will only use mine when we are separated.

The rest of the time I will just mooch off his phone .

  • Not personally but I have friends say it worked as supposed to.

  • have used it in Japan, It is great and just uses your normal monthly data allowance like you would in AUS, and will come up as additional roaming charges at $5 per day you use any data overseas. It's prob one of the best value if you are using it for only a few days.

Most other carriers start at least $10 per day and the data allowance may be very small in comparison.

  • Hi, I used it when I went recently

It works well, but they used roaming from one of the smaller telcos and I was only able to get H+ (3G+) and not 4G.

We ended up using the pocket wifi devices at our Airbnb's instead.

SIMs are cheap enough that I would get one there and have 4G instead.

I used it within Europe, but not worth to use it in Japan.
For Japan I use 21 day data sim and activate it via local account from Japan and use Skype account to make phone calls.

    For Vodafone $5/day roaming
Soon as you make a call, send or receive message you get charge for the day and you are limited for data limit set in your plan.

    • Which data SIM do you use in Japan? I was mostly just standing outside 7-11s using their free WiFi last time ;)

It was while back, use B-Mobile, but I had issues finding person with Japanese sim to activate my account for 21 day data plan. Bet there are better data plans for 18 days with simplified activation.

        • Thanks. Looks like I can pick one up at Yodobashi or Bic Camera. I usually stay around Ueno/Akihabara so too easy ;)

For that length of time you'd be better off buying a local sim or renting a portable wifi.

WHY!? Thats like $90 for him, and say $30 for you?

For $120, you can get a local sim each or a pocket wifi each to use.

  • Used in US and worked well

  • I use it travelling all the time for work and works perfectly.

  • I have used it heaps of countries. Best ive ever got is 3G coverage.

  • I've used it heaps, managed to get 4G in Spain, France and Italy, 3G in Papua New Guinea (was expected).

Worked seamlessly, only issue was I had it activated during a Dubai stopover and that wasn't one of the included countries :/

I'm going to Singapore for a week later in the year and will probably do the same there too.
