Belong Mobile Mistake Made When Trying to Cancel Service

I signed up for a Belong Mobile Promo Sim. I thought I would give it a chance and see how was it but now I regret!

After the first month I blocked the card as I thought it was the way to cancel it. It wasn't. But this is my mistake, and the following month I get debited $40.

When I noticed the payment in my bank account I reached out to them to make them realise I haven't used a single byte of data they said their hands were tied and couldn't do anything about that. But also, they were going to charge me another $40 the month after. Because I contacted them to cancel the service the day after the charge,so the new month was started. And I can't even use the data I already paid for because they now cancelled my SIM card and it gets immediately deleted and you cant port it to a new carrier!

So they are taking my money anyway, but I'm not going to receive any service. Wow. Customer support informed me that this was a Post Paid service with no monthly contract. This sounds so illegal, but no…all is of course under the protection of their Terms and Conditions.

I would highly recommend don't go with BELONG and avoid the hassle.

After the first month I blocked the card as I thought it was the way to cancel it.

You blocked your card thinking it'll cancel the service??

Belong is the service provider and they're the one you have an agreement with - why wouldn't you just call them in the first place to cancel?

Did you even read (and agree to) the Terms and Conditions when you signed up? Of course you did, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to use their service!

    • I contacted the customer support to remove the payment details from the account, which they did. But the account showed as overdue and I had to pay those charges to clear the account.

So that was right because you didn't cancel the service.

Nothing you've described seems illegal, simply looks like you made a mistake.

Also with regards to not using a single byte, they still provided the service for that month where you could have accessed it, so they rightfully charged you.

Only thing is you might get the last month pro data back depending on the timings of course

        • With a few providers I've used the TIO is the only way I've got money back for things that are pretty obvious and should have been dealt with straight up. Pro rata is fair, imagine a electricity company billing you for a whole quarter at the beginning when you are trying to disconnect.

That is when you could've just said that you would like to cancel and they would've told you what you needed to do.

Mistakes happen and you could learn from it for next time, but really shouldn't create a negative post like this one unless the company actually screws you for some reason - In this case, they haven't.

        • Its a deceptive business model if you don't stay on top of it

  • Isn't Belong Telstra? Telstra have been good customer service in comparison to the other telcos. Maybe Belong don't spend so much on good customer service?

  • maybe you should highly recommend actually contacting Belong mobile to cancel the sim before the next payment cycle.

    and avoid the hassle.

" this is my mistake "

So why are you blaming Belong ? Are they supposed to read your mind, you did all the wrong things, and expect what, a refund in return ? It is entirely your mistake, Belong did nothing wrong and they did exactly as you instructed them to do.

All I did to cancel was submit a support request. 10 minutes later, it was cancelled.

Wait, so you thought by giving them no way to charge you, they would stop charging you? lol.

    • I suppose following that line of reasoning one could walk into a shop without cash or plastic and take goods with impunity lol.

  • I use their internet and its really really super slow , ozbargain never opens up lol

  • After the first month I blocked the card as I thought it was the way to cancel it.

N….no that's not how you do it. That does seem like a good way to end up with a rather large default on your credit rating though.

  • Yeah I've just lodged a chargeback and TIO complaint, you should do the same. I had no idea they were continuously hitting an old bank account, and their reminder emails are incredibly vague and leave you with the assumption that it simply will be cancelled
