"Spin" Book by Martin Sixsmith - $0.02 at Kmart

320

After randomly price checking books at Kmart (Batemans Bay, NSW), I found a hardcover copy of the book 'Spin' by British author Martin Sixsmith that scanned on the price checker as 5 cents. However at the checkout, the book scanned up as 2 cents. I can't really comment on the quality of the book, (here's a review of it by The Guardian - http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2004/apr/24/featuresreviews.…) but for 2 cents it must be worth adding to the trolley!

(Also found while randomly price checking, 'Derailed' by James Siegel - a bit less of a bargain at 50 cents)

If you take this book to the checkouts…does it mean that the book is free as 2c rounds to $0? :P

yes - that is their policy

  • Amazing.

      yay free toilet paper?

      • I dunno, the paper used in books isn't soft on the skin

      • exactly what I was thinking

definitely a +1 for anyone that spends time in Kmart randomly price checking items. That machine is fun. ;)

Apart from the ones that don't work ;-) I tried one in Target yesterday that said "Store is closed" It was the middle of the day ;-)

You know what else? If you get a job at the checkout counter, you even get paid for it. Double WIN.

    • definitely a +1 for a person who reads a book just because its free

don't show someone like this a Library - they'll NEVER make it out !!

You could also get a couple of copies and donate them to your local library. I've not read it myself either but I'm sure they'd appreciate the gift.

    • My library just resells donated books. It's a hassle and costly for them to put the book into the system, so they just resell them.

      • Which library is that? I've not donated a book for a while but have always assumed all libraries retained gifted books. The only exceptions I know of are when the donated books are highly specific and not generally of public interest (eg: literature about specific company products) or in poor condition (broken spines, highlighted/dog-eared pages, etc).

        • Depends on the library - You'd have to check with your local one re: their policies. Usually any money raised goes to support the library in any case. Donated books (ie, generally second hand condition) are usually considered different to books that people have privately purchased/given by prior arrangement specifically for addition to the library's catalogue.

  • eBay it !

I was about to say that adult illiteracy is nothing to be ashamed of… help is available… then I read your comment again and realised that the term "adult" does not apply in this case…

I recently purchased a pair of pants for work at local Kmart that were $39.99 on the rack, but scanned at checkout as $3.99. The checkout girl got the senior checkout girl, who called over what looked like the shift manger who scanned it herself… then said "If it scans at that price… he gets it for that price" And then dispatched someone to hastily correct the error before anyone else grabbed a bargain :-)

I can't seem to find a review of this book anywhere (link in OP is broken). I had hoped it was this book also called SPIN, that I have read and is very very good http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=sr_1_3?asin=B002V0Q3UI&qid=129… Sadly it's not this book on sale.

  • usually when an item scans at 2c it's intended to be a bonus item, if that's the case then a checkout operator who's more aware of the current deals would say that the item's not for sale individually. Either that or it's a customer return from ages ago

so im guessing if you got 3, it would still be 5c? :D

    • I work at Kmart - that is correct!

  • Couldn't find it at Kmart in Toombul

  • +1

For the record…if you buy one, the 2c actually rounds UP to 5c (if that's the only thing you're buying through the register)
But if you find 3…all three will be 5c :o)

And yes…working there is pretty sweet. There's some awesome deals out there that only those who 'random price-check' would ever find!

  • Couldn't find it at Indooroopilly or Mt. Ommaney.

  • Couldn't find it at Chadstone (vic) store either, so looks like it's store specific?
