Is brown rice healthier or white rice?
It's not that simple. Brown is healthier because it's unrefined, so its nutritional value is higher, and your body needs more time to digest it (which is good). But it's also contaminated with arsenic, and the levels of arsenic are higher in brown rice. These levels vary depending on country of origin. Rice grown in AU in accordance with AU standards should be safe (<1 mg / kg), but it's still a good idea to limit rice consumption and add other grains to your diet. You can also reduce the amount of arsenic in your rice by boiling it in a lot of water and draining it when it's ready.

Brown rice is healthier, it contains more fibre so will fill you up more on less calories. I think white rice is quite healthy too but you should wash it very well because some manufacturers coat the rice with asbestos to prevent vermin from eating it. I'll give out a simple cheap recipe, I buy the Continental oriental fried rice value pack from coles for $2.50, I cook 1 cup of brown rice in 500ml of water for 20 minutes and then I add another 400ml water and add the Continental value pack (it is instant rice 10 minute cook time) and add some extra frozen peas and corn and keep cooking for a total of 30 mins. Tastes amazing and is about 50/50 brown rice to white rice, I started doing that to extend the packets cheaply and make them more healthy.

Does Coles' own Basmati rice (as well as Woolies') ever go on sale? I tried their Basmati brands and found them amazing, but I never saw them on sale.
