Brooks Brothers 1818 Suit Advice

Hello,

I have the opportunity to buy a Brooks Brothers suit RRP $1799 for $500 (outlet store, pre-alterations which would add another $200 or potentially less if going outside BB) and I just wanted to know OzB's opinion. I'm always weary about buying clothes 'on sale' as nothing seems to ever sell for RRP. No one is buying an Oxford suit for $600+ for example haha

It's 1818 Regent cut and although Brooks Brothers seems like a relatively high-end suit for OTR (I think it's half-canavs from online research, but then salesperson definitely was pushing it as a full-canvas suit and he was pretty good about fitting it on me) but would the above money just be better spent on a lower-end MTM suit?

Thanks for your advice friends!

I've got an 1818 suit. I don't know enough or have owned enough suits to give you much of an accurate review of its quality (although I have gotten a few compliments at weddings for it) but if you're just wanting to know if the retail price is inflated then I spent approximately $1k for mine while on sale at David Jones (another $150 on tailoring) so $500 seems like a pretty good price.

Never owned a BB suit but I own like 15 of their shirts, a few pairs of pants and lots of ties. They use excellent quality materials and I'd definitely buy it for $500.

Not sure about the fit though - they tend to be less slim than a lot of other brands (designed for burly americans) so if that's your thing it could be an issue.

Assuming that its a full wool suit and at least half canvas (as it seems to be), it all really comes down to the fit, particularly at the shoulders.

I would recommend going to see a MTM tailor to see if they could do something for the same price range. If you are in Melbourne, The Suit Concierge in Richmond is a good place to start.

    Good Luck
