Help Identifying Contractors Who Jumped My Back Fence (QLD - video link included)

Well I was out today at work and got an alert to say someone was at my house. (LoganCity QLD)

It appears 2 contractors visited with offical ID tags and everything but jumped my back fence? I have since gone home and my home is fine.

But I am trying to find what the company is on their shirt so I can call them and go what goes?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJzEj7p4CaU

Anyone seen that uniform/logo - I can't make out the letters. (So much for a security system that can't clearly show letters.)

Update: here is all the videos in order:

Going to front door: https://youtu.be/BqZHZO6Pu_Q

Dog Barks at back: https://youtu.be/B6BVBxGsKIc

Going to right side of house – neighbors fence against house (cant get through): https://youtu.be/SJzEj7p4CaU

In the back yard: https://youtu.be/uyAfbt1HVwk

In the back yard on patio: https://youtu.be/Auiy2gU13ZU

I have a dog at the back yard and the gates are all padlocked.

He had gonads jumping the fence with the dog in back, but lucky my dog is just more bark than anything.

  • Local council?

    • The logo doesn't match the city council.

I suspect it could be Energex subcontractors as I currently have a case raised with them in relation to high voltage. But I would like to try and identify the company.

      • +1

Could you elaborate on the case with high voltage?

its Bunnings… I recognize the straw hats

      • @stealthmatt perhaps they were there to steal th matt

  • Could they have been reading your electricity meter?

    • +1

They would have meter reader on the back of their shirt.

    • +7

No meter reader (usually sub contractos) is going to go to that effort, especially if there is a dog.

Yep 3d reconstruction based on window reflections

        • Shenanigans!

  • +9

Bunnings based on the hats :)

  • What makes you think they jumped your back fence? They would not have had time in the time they were out of view on your video.Maybe they looked over looking for a meter?

    • They jump it after the video ends.

  • +6

They walk in a very dodgy way! And especially with the big hats and the way they look at the ground like they know a camera might be there. Fake uniforms?

    • They walk in a very dodgy way! And especially with the big hats and the way they look at the ground like they know a camera might be there.

Looks like they're just looking where they're walking to me. Pavers on pebbles isn't very flat.

    • +9

Now I know how to dress if I'm ever going to commit a crime.

Wide brim hat, sunnies, fluro tradie shirt and a lanyard to make it look like I'm legit - it's genius!

  • +1

"down that way. a bit narrow. you might fit, but i won't. cough cough"

  • +14

Personally, they don't look shifty to me, the second fella just looks like he's completely jack of following the first one around all day. The older fella is looking up most of the time, expecting to see a householder pop out and enquire who they are. Obviously, not his first time.

The irony is that his ID card is fully visible, just hasn't got the clarity to make the details out. But then, you'd looking at pricey kit for that level of detail. It did however catch the speeding bug at 0.18
    Anyway, enough of that.

Look like they could be UASG or Skilled contractors. Hardly a smoking gun, but the uniform is the same (bar grandmas sun hat), and given you'd mentioned a concern around electricity, it appears to be a convenient fit.

    You be the judge:

I think your right, I logged on to my Origin energy account and it says next meter reading 5/4/2018 (+- 2days)

      • +20

        Case closed!

This thread should stop getting new replies in about 4-6 weeks.

      • +3

It's not Skilltech/UASG I can tell the logo is different. (0.02s "3. Contractors try right side of house" shows the logo)
Also I don't think Skilltech has the contract for Logan city council.

        Right to enter property

According to the Electricity Supply Act 1995 (Section 55) and Gas Supply Act 1996 (Section 56) a provider has the right to enter a customer's property to read the meter without prior notice or consent.

        • +1

I don't think Skilltech has the contract for Logan city council.

The Council doesn't read meters. That's the job of Energex and they have subcontractors. Skilltech is definitely one of them.

  • +3

Same thing happened to me. It was a worker for the energy company who wanted to trim down an olive tree on my property which had gotten a bit high near some power lines. It was excellent timing too because I had a heap of broken branches from some recent severe winds and they offered to shed it all up using their truck.

Nigerian princes looking for help with a money transfer.

  • Off topic a bit, but what cameras do you have installed? Cheers

That's what is written on the shirt.

  • Waiting for an advertisement for some kind of security cameras…

    • Advertising what? That you can't do shit with security camera footage except come on a random Internet forum and ask for advice?

      • +2

I think he was referring to last year, when someone had some money stolen by a housemate, and caught it on a Xiaomi camera. Turns out it was one of those Chinese shops trying to shill Xiaomi products lol.

        • Must have missed that one. Hope they got kicked off OzB.

  • +2

    Irish Backpackers?

  • +3

I think they are thieves casing it disguised as contractors

  • Had these exact same looking guys come onto my property in Melbourne. They are nbn guys. Didn’t ask for permission just installed it. Picked up on the arlos as well. They left a note to say it was installed though.

    • +10

Looks like these guys are arlo camera reps, posing as NBN workers, setting off alert to the users of arlo camera system, in order to have them post online about it, thus increasing brand awareness for these arlo cameras.
      Very clever marketing ploy.

      CONSPIRACY

      • +6

I haven't heard anything about Arlo camera system before this post so it's somewhat successful :X

  • +1

    This is not cool.

And for the comment earlier that dissed Security cameras, I couldn't disagree more. They helped me get rid of a meth lab behind my house. If I didn't have cameras I would never have known they were stashing it under my house.

    • +5

Someone was stashing a methlab under your house?

      • legit laughed at this.

      • +1

Lol, the proceeds of. We weren't living in the house as we'd only just got the keys.

        • +1

I found two slabs of home brew beer under my house. Drank some and didn't die!

        • @Gauntlet:

Of course you'd be fine. If homebrew causes someone to die then you know you must have really methed it up

  • Might be worth calling / putting in a report to your local police station.

Just so they are aware in case something dodgy happens in the area.

    • -4

"Hello Police. Yea some guys who were probably from an energy company for a date they booked in came to my house and did whatever they had to while I wasn't home, in full compliance with the law……..uh…..Hello?"

      • +4

"Hi, some unknown people in hi-vis gear jumped my back fence when I wasn't home without permission".

"I have CC footage of them. So here are my contact details in case there are any burglaries or criminal activity in the area".

Just think. If a house a few doors up was broken in to the police probably would have no idea who did it or how to track it down. Unless it was something major, they wouldn't go door knocking in the area to look for footage.

If they have an existing report of footage, they can make a call, grab it and possibly identify the perpetrators. As they are often known to police already.

Doing nothing doesn't hurt the OP, but might help a neighbour if something did happen in the area.

        • Yea…. Except for

          "stealthmatt on 05/04/2018 - 09:01
I think your right, I logged on to my Origin energy account and it says next meter reading 5/4/2018 (+- 2days)"

        • @anawth: why would you jump a back fence to read a Meyer, aren't they usually out the front?

  • Had blokes dressed up similar have a look around the house for stormwater and sewage infrastructure and issues like stormwater going to sewer points etc.
I think they working on behalf of the council. I'm in logan as well and this was like a month ago

  • +4

    ASIO. just bugged your house

  • +1

Hi guys apparently they could be NBN contractors, my phone line, HFC cable and electricity come from the rear street to the back roof of the house. I suspect they were looking at the pole on the rear road to understand how to prepare to install it at a later date.

I have received a letter a few weeks ago that they would be installing HFC cable to houses between April and August.

I am just disappointed they didn't leave a note and they jumped the fence.

    • They probably had a very tight schedule set by NBN and after knocking on your door thought rather than you wait another month or more they'd try and get the job done anyway….not realising they would be filmed..

  • So they came to stealthmatt's place in a stealth mode? You are not stealth anymore Matt. Username doesn't check out.

  • Looks like the letters say RSVP

    • +2

      The dating website?

The plot thickens….keeping any secrets in the closet, Matt?

  • Do you have any registered easements on your property? They could have been there in relation to some underground infrastructure (e. g. sewerage/communications/electricity).

  • +1

Was one carrying a TV and the other a DVD player?

If so you know they're Logan locals and from the immediate area and the cops will know them.

  • Jehova's Witnesses are getting crafty….

    • You could have hit the nail on the head.

  • Surveyor?

  • -1

    Bikies.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet.

  • Your home is fine. No issues.
So you identify them and have them charged with what?

    • trespassing!

      • Nope. Doesnt quite work that way my friend.
Best you review the laws around tresspassing

  • Did you work it out OP?

    • +1

I think you hit the nail on the head with the waste water guys.

Nothing has come of it and no further suspects have come to the door since.

  • I use arlo pro as well, for home security. We've had a number of break-ins around the neighborhood last year which led us to looking into home cameras. I think if we are to splurge to home security, might as well do it with arlo pro. We badly need the 2way communication to at least scare outsiders without officially getting in our premises. The night vision is good too. Though I learned here that its batteries tend to drain for some reasons, this should be improved, hopefully.

  • My brother installed home security cameras in WA and someone stole the external cameras!
