Thanks Askohole, was just thinking about posting this, but you have saved me the trouble.

May be worth adding that unlike the 'freebies' you can buy more that one of these, even in the same transaction.

Unless those bolts are long as, I'd guess that the product size is actually 30 x 30 x 8mm ?

    • Im also assuming its 8mm rather than 8cm.
I have a noisy sat nav fan in the car so this should fit the replacement

      • Would this be any better though? Typically, cheap small sized fans end up being screamers. And that's before factoring in Zapals quality …

        • Ill give it a go for a buck
But agree, i dont have the highest hopes

        • @thorpef1: Yep same. I ordered one anyway. The next cheapest on AliEx is like $4 US just on a quick search.

  • Thanks bought 1 for the nespi case and a spare just in case.

Silly question: do the black and red cables plug directly into the Raspberry Pi board?

    • +1

      Yes.

      Got a few. Thanks OP.

  • What is the sound level of this fan? I have heard a few are screaming demons.

    • +6

I have this fan on my board..used for 30 seconds then been unplugged ever since, way to loud and annoying formmy liking.
And to be honest as long as there's a heatsink in there the fans are just over the top and not needed.

      • +4

But what if you want to overclock that bad boy to run Far Cry 5?

      • Will the noise be bearable if plugged into 3.3v instead of 5v?

        • I have BC a pi case with a fan and i plugged it into 3.3v to keep the noise down. Works well.

      • You don't need this or heat sink unless you overclock your rp3 to run Farcry 5

    • Get ready for a high pitched, ear piercing noise.

  • What can I use this for if I don’t pi?

    • These (and 40mm fans) are excellent for heat reduction in remote control car motors when added on top of an existing heat sink. So that's one other reason, now all you need is an RC :)

      • Hahah. A $1.28 fan to get me into a more expensive hobby!

  • Thanks! Ordered one

Now just waiting for good deal on pi3 model b, target to pay A$30 🤣

  • got one! I noticed that performance dropped on occassion when running some games with retropie and I suspect it's heat throttling the CPU.

    • +1

You should see a little icon in the top right corner of your screen that gives you a heads up on when you're about to be throttled, and when you are throttled - if I remember correctly!

    Not a bargain at $1.28.

Available for $1.00 Australian from any number of ebay sellers

Actually this includes the nuts and screws. All the $1 ones don't.. Not a like for like comparison. Cheapest like for like is $1.48

      • +3

Yes, same quality (or lack of) as the China ones. Also has the little 'Dupont' style connectors on the wires rather than bare.
I love this from the description…
"Upgrade bearing of this fan can not only ensure outputing a lot of wind, but also mute performance."

        • +3

          so silent but deadly then?

  • +1

    Thanks, got one.
Seems like I'm buying something from zapals every day now :(

    • same :/

  • I'm not expressing a view here, but I found the attached discussion about the merits of adding fans and heatsinks under the heading Does the Raspberry Pi need a cooling system? I presume that the same applies to fans.

    https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/a/22929

No, it does not need a cooling system. If the CPU gets too hot (>85C) it will throttle back the speed.

Perhaps vendors sell heat-sinks to gullible people for the same reason they sell gold plated digital audio cables, they make a profit.

    • +1

Yeah, and when it throttles back, your dreamcast game slows down, which is shit.
I put a heatsink on mine, and can play the dreamcast for longer.
When I aim a desk fan at it, I can play indefinitely.

It really depends on what you're using the rPI for, and this fan is useful for some of us. For someone who is not expressing a view here, you sure neg'd the deal eh?

      • Can you really emulate the DC using a Pi3? I eould have thought theres was no chance playing e.g Powerstone 2 on one when I hear they have trouble emulating n64

Also having a heatsink under the fan would be more useful

        • Yep, I've played through 1 DC title, and am 80% through another, no issues.
It struggles with N64 in that it requires a lot of configuration/tweaks per game, but it can play most games.

        • @idonotknowwhy: amazing. Makes me wonder if it will run on a modded xbox 1st gen l. OoC which title?

        • @Jackson: Finished Berserk. Currently playing and really enjoying illbleed (which performs fine, but has some minor graphics glitches, which also occur on the PC version of the emulator).
